You could always try the Market Day approach suggested earlier in my first post. Selling things works best if the items supplied comes from Merchants that are not connected to the players or AI.

Trading between players has some opposition, and it probably doesn't matter what you want to trade. (Just look at the Captives discussion between me and Niteshade.)

Basically, some players won't trade anything for anything, and it seems persuading them otherwise is wasting your breath.

The idea may have some merit if the other players/AI don't know the artifacts/creatures being auctioned off actually belongs to another player and not to a merchant which is not part of the game.

Another cruel idea would be to sell Prisoners to the highest bidder, like in a slave market.

Just watch your neighbour's slack-jawed face as his hero is moved to another player on the other side of the map. Such a sale could back-fire and the prisoner could be bought by the player who owns it.

I reviewed the Market day and it has some drawbacks.
First, exchanging goodies between players can be done every day as I know. Anyway I wouldn't trade with my enemy any day of the year, it simply means giving him what he needs, right? Would you do it?
Second, you can't really bargain in only one day, since this is a turn-based game...do you mean that for one day it would be real time playing?...because that would solve the problem.

I'm aware of some players being reluctant to trade aything for anything, which is why I added the auction of neutral goods. Myself, I'd be prone to trade a bit but how much depends on how many players there are on the map.

I believe a good adjustemnt for Market day is to allow two ways of getting stuff sold. One for normal trade between creatures / artifacts / imprisoned heroes / resources, which starts up in the beginning of the day.

The other is that you put them up for the auction, along with the neutral items from the "merchants" and that you modify the number of auction items so players don't know if it's 0, 1, 2, or 3 items per type of resource that's going to be sold. This auction should be done so the buyer doesn't know the colour of the player selling the goods. All the player knows is that if I don't buy it then perhaps somebody else will.

This works best for 3 or more colours. The trading part of the market is limited to a set number of minutes, or until all say they've limited the trading part.

The auction part would be real time.

For this day, notice that all normal game activies are postphoned so your troops may not be moving etcetera.

GREAT IDEA! if it wasn't too late.... Say, why don;t you call the 3do company and tell your ideas to them...? You would have a good chance...

One new special day...

Day of the Riddler
A riddler wanders the land asking difficult questions. Each player is offered an intellectual contest, which they can accept or decline. Each player gets a chance to answer correctly to the riddle. The riddling can be conducted in two different ways:

1. The answer to the riddle is assocaited to a sign-post or having been given a clue in a tavern. The player is able to answer correctly only if they've come across the answer. (This will be script-based.)

2. The answer is based on real-life and the player is required to type in the answer within 1 minute.

The stake for the riddle could vary. Either gold, or an artifact. Of course failing to answer correctly means you loose money/resources.

Yes. The riddler could be the sphinx, just like in mithology. And it could roam across the land or might have fixed positions, replacing lets say, a border guard.

It could. This is actually a good idea.

The riddler/sphinx would, however, then be a Stranger and not a Special day.

I would like to see a special day similar to "Day of the Black Dragon (or insert favorite unit)" but instead of adding growth, all black dragons from all armies become Neutral and abandon their owners.

It would of course be a big time catastrophe to see your conquering army of 40 BDs led by Lord l33t the L67 Barbarian lose all his BDs just as he's about to whoop some major ass..

Jenova, have I mentioned recently that you have a truly evil mind? Coming from me, that's a high compliment.

That's just ... wrong (echoing Unk's friend's comment about your artifact that sometimes causes spells to backfire, if I recall correctly)!

But I don't think I'd like that. I can just imagine ... blue player is bringing 25 Titans to battle, who suddenly turn on him and slay that hero and his entire army! No, that'd be a little too catastrophic for a random event. But Unk's right, you do have a very evil mind. That's not necessarily a bad thing.

LOL! Ok, so maybe it shouldn't be Black Dragons and should be limited to lower level creatures (or very RARELY Lev 4's).. Or perhaps only a small number of them abandon your cause.. the 40 BD example is admittedly a bit.. evil. But hey it's all in good fun!

I doubt they would implement something like this though..

Well, they might be a little less harsh on you...your dragons might defect only temporarily, lets say, for nesting, or they are unsatisfied with your hero.In those cases you might have to simply wait for them to return or to pay them gold, or better, crystals...

A few new special days.

Fool's Gold
All the Gold owned by all players are Fool's Gold and completely worthless.

Anarchy
All creatures immediately abandon their players and become neutral creatures roaming the land. (The creatures are split away from any heroes they may have been tavelling with.)

Could you expand on those days? Something like "Day of Senility" where magic isn't as affective and ranged creatures lose 1/2 their attack, or "Day of Clumsiness" where all creature movement is cut in half?
