Execution and details are 90 percent of what makes a good game great. When your Command & Conquer commando sprite unexpectedly shouts, "Got a present for ya!" before slapping a wad of C-4 to a SAM site, well, it kinda gives you a warm fuzzy feeling all over. Starting from the load-screens and straight on 'til morning, Command & Conquer is one of the finest, most brilliantly-designed computer games I have ever seen. Focusing on the global conflict between the fictional Global Defense Initiative (read "NATO with a budget problem") and Brotherhood of Nod (read "Illuminati meets Warsaw Pact") organizations, Command & Conquer puts the player in complete charge of fast-paced, squad-level military operations utilizing a wide variety of troops, ground vehicles, base installations, air strikes, and production facilities.
Throwing in just enough full-motion video to build the proper mindset between scenarios, C&C's main hook is its battlefield action: real-time, command-based, and simultaneous. Thus, you may send a squad of grenadiers to take out an enemy airfield to stop the influx of reinforcements, and suddenly realize that as you've been doing this, bazookamen have started bashing your one production facility. Of course rerouting a group of tanks to deal with the bazooka menace turns out to be exactly what the enemy wanted you to do, and as 20 minigunners close on your undefended HQ, you anxiously count the seconds to the next friendly air strike that'll make everything nice again. The tension produced by so many multiple layers of real-time interaction is what computer gamers live for, and a number of different high-energy soundtracks keep adrenaline levels maxed out. Playing the entire conflict in the role of the other side makes for twice the gameplay value, and I don't even want to think about what's going to happen when the six-player networkable version comes out. Highly, highly recommended.

It said something about burning some CDs with some stuff on it that kinda took all the excitement away, if someone succeeds in actually running the thing let me know how and how "easy" it really was

Oh, c'mon, TnT. Like you don't have some daemon tools or a similiar image program?
I just don't feel like putting it on download for 15 hours right now, maybe some other time.

That means that there are a lot of fat, low quality, lame cut scenes that back in 95 people were going "Whoa it's just like real people in the TV! OMGWTFBBQ!!!" in there

damn for me just for the NOD one it says 33 hours and 1 minute. as a constant...
For 540 MB? whoa ive downloaded games with 4 gigabytes
+patches and it took less time..

Yep it's the 1995 C&C (windows version) and it's expansion Covert Ops.
They are around 500 Mb. The download may be slow because it's so popular that the servers might be crowded. Try a different time. It may help
Just burn or mount the images or just use winrar to extract them and find a no-crack.
Nod comes from ancient Hebrew or some other old middle-eastern language and it means "to wander". Not sure because the bible reference doesn't tell what language it is.

Seems to be true. Probably came from the words "nad", where "lindod" (you can't see it in English, but it's the same root) means "to wander".
But "nod" just means fart and nothing more.

tbe thing about red alert that is was one of the most creative games in all of history.
No longer are games made with such a high level of polish on originality and flexibility and the possible creative ideas and strategys
The balance was terrible for multiplayer though

Wanna quess wich game got me hooked on PC gaming?
C&C
The best RTS so far.
Tiberian Sun was a worthy sequel with an atmosphere to match.
Well the first RA is great and I just love the allies with their gap generators and GPS satellite. Turrets are the most cost effective defense building by far if you combine them with few bazooka men they can take down mammoths easily.
RA 2 was okay too I guess but why do those americans get the control of the world? They were sitting home and drinking beer during the first RA afterall. Germans, Greeks and Brits (and some French) did the work and they get world control? Unbelievable.
Generals might be an okay RTS but a bad C&C. All stars mod is amazing though. Try if you can.
Tiberium Wars is OK but the sudden disappering of all but the most basic tiberium is very very odd. The game is a much more fast paced than the others with an average game length of 4 minutes. This is due to the Generals like production system with multiple productino lines and even faster resource gathering. Where did the forgotten go?

Faster paces games.. Yeah definatly . you can get stuff like mammoths so quickly
still i like the fact NOD got the armor boost that the generals equivalant lacked. thhe best unit could be taken down waay too easily there
