I am slowly becoming highly interested in MMO's

Hello everyone. I have been playing an MMORPG called Silkroad for a while and I am starting to get interested in othe MMO's. Iwould like some cuestions to the fans of Lineage2, Guildwars and World of Warcraft that are as far as I know the 3 most popular MMO's.
First aboult Gildwars: Are those Guildwars: Factions, Guildwars: Nightfall, and Guildwars: Eye of the North separate games or espansion packs and can all the expansion packs be used together?
Then about World of Warcraft: I already know that "The burning crusade" is an expansion for WoW. but I asw aome anauncement of something called "The rise of te Lich King" is that going to be an expansion pack or a new game?
And finaly to lineage2: Are htere expansions for lineage2.
And to all: Are there patches to those gamea and do i have to download tham or do they come automaticly?

about world of warcraft. yes rise of the lich king is an expansion. and you will have to download normal world of warcraft patches to play the normal one (11 patches) or just upgrade it from the start and just download about 4 of them

I Play Guild Wars

Yes

Guild Wars - Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall, and Eye of the North:

1. All are seperate games you must purchase.
2. All are linked via a ship/boat on your map.
3. Characters created in one game can travel to the other games only after you have purchased and installed them.

For example I created one of my characters in Nightfall and I am doing quests and missions in both Factions and Prophecies. Once you beat a game you can replay it on "hard" difficulty, but that feature does not carry over to the other games unless you have beaten them too.

I think World of Warcraft is poorly made and all the Guild Wars are stunningly designed.

True, but WoW is better for low-end computers.

Also, there is more variation, and where in GuildWars do you get the satisfaction of playing as a gnome death knight?

Wow is one of the worse games in design but it makes up for that in
Quantity- Lets face it. no matter how good a game is if it doesnt have much to do in it youll get bored quickly
Interaction- Lots of stuff that involved playing with other players. whereas i believe in guild wars its a single player game most of the time

So I can play any of them if I do NOT have the others but If i have two three or ALL of them They'll come together creating a larger universe with more professions available or smth like that?

Yes exactly. Each expansion comes with a new world and you need the expansion to play in that world. I think it's the same for character classes and maybe also for skills which means that you can't learn skills introduced in Factions if you don't have it. But I'm not sure about this...

I used to play Prophecies and Factions for about 8 months. It was a lot of fun, especially with high-level areas like fissure and underworld which I played about 40-70 times (a full run may last about 6 hours but most are like 1-2h). Eventually I quit because it cost too much time and I also was a bit disappointed by Factions. I liked its story and theme better than Prophecies but it lacked long-term motivation imo.
Player vs. player is also great in Guild Wars, many people play it just for that.

I don't know anything about the latest 2 expansion packs, but considering that you don't pay monthly fees I can only recommend GW

Yes I was I just going to ask about payment. Do you pay every month to play GW, WOW or LA2 or do you pay only for the game itsself and do you pay for getting registered. And are there piratic servers in GW and LA2 like in WoW?

For GW you only pay the game and nothing else. For WoW you need to pay every month. I don't know about Lineage...

My advice: Try the trial version of WoW, see if it is worth paying.  (I think it's what, $12 a month?)

The thing with Guild Wars is that most of the time, you're actually playing offline. I guess you could call it a semi-MMO. Maybe it's Medium Multiplayer Online as opposed to Massive?

Ragnarok Online

I found this MMORPG a while ago but just got into it again.  They do have a free 15 day trial of it also.

One of the things I like about this one is that they have an hourly fee instead of just mounthly fees.  I hate how some games make you pay the same as someone who plays the game 8hours everyday compared to my 1 and I have to pay the same rate.  Also like the fact that they have really extensive payment options.  See I don't have a Credit Card and I hate how all the companies want to make you sorry you don't have one.  I like how this game allows you to pay even by cash at like western union if you have to or with paypal.

You may play

Guild Wars
Factions
Nightfall

Either by themselves, coupled together or preferably all three.

Eye of the North you must have a fully levelled character in either/any/at least one of those games to play.

Interesting new MMORPG:
Lord of the Rings online: Shadows of Angmar

I'm not really in MMORPG's (pay, pay, pay...Ive got better things to spend my money on), but I've read about it, and I think it offers a pretty accurate LOTR experience.
