Rayman 2 had all the characters speak in another language and showed subtitles, even with the protagonist 
It might be interesting to see heroes take this direction ie having all know a common language and use some catchphrases or even talk in their own language in campaigns taking place in their land.
I loved Viconia from baldur's gate 2, she was talking common with the party but occasionally she used drow words too. That's a good example of depth and credibility for a character out of his setting.

I would not like them to talk their own languages all the time, but maybe they could say some phrases like in Wc3...

Hehe warcraft is another I liked from this viewpoint. In the campaign with Grom Hellscream you can hear the night elves talking with each other in the intro but in any case the units will often say something that is not in English.
Then again warcraft introduced some funny lines when you click a unit too often
Banshees: 'I hate you, I hate you, I hate you!...Call me!'
The arachnoid hero on Arthas's side: 'And they say Blizzard games don't have bugs.'
Blood elf spellbreaker(?): 'Be quick man, time is mana!'
Another blood elf: 'For the end of the world spell press ctrl, alt, delete.'

Almost ALL creatures in warcraft 3 say something funny or sthg. that is related to the real world.
For instance the enforcer (a neutral creature) says a phrase from the song 'whereever I may roam' from metallica, the shaman sings the song 'raindrops keep falling on my head, Grom hellscream says 'I can see clearly now the rain has gone'
"Sadly the name pinkspear tribewas already taken"-says the shadow hunter in the orc bonus mission
It would be AWESOME if we could hear such stuff in homm
Hope somebody from nival who has a good sense of humour reads this topic...

Oh, yes, did anyone noticed that there's no background sounds in Fortress town (like those chanting shamans from Sylvan town).

I also noticed that Fortress is a bit lacking in music. Especially, no tavern theme. It just goes quiet, which is more noticeable than the main theme continuing.
Also, why is there only one underground theme, but several overground themes? Kinda gets boring in the Dungeon campaigns that mainly play underground, and it's not like the other campaigns haven't got their share either.
I'd love some "pissed" quotes like in Warcraft, but I wouldn't mind a bit more original way to bring humour into the game. More edgy heroes like Duncan and Wulfstan, some jokes at the tavern, maybe AI heroes sending taunt messages when they see your hero (enemy Warlock: "How would you like your <strongest stack>? Roasted, frozen, or shocked?).
By see, I mean the normal vision radius of the hero, it's pretty obvious that the AI sees everything.
