Wind swept through the plane, as the storm clouds gathered overhead. The sounds of boots stomping in mud could be heard for a long distance away. The shifting of weapons and shields echoed, and then stilled. A lone figure stood on a hilltop, directly in front of the advancing army.
Long beautiful white hair flowed down to almost her mid back. Light airy robes, also white, fluttered in the breeze. She rested on a white oak staff. Her words seemed to echo, and carried to every ear that could hear. "Peace. This land has not known war for a thousand years. You are brothers and sisters, spill not blood on this hollow ground."
There was some uneasy shifting, for what she said was true. Two armies faced each other, and both sides were of the same people. Civil war was always unpleasant, but this surpassed even that. Pure hate had taken root, but the bitterness had gone so long nobody even remembered what had started it.
A voice, strong and hearty answered the woman. "Begone witch. This be not of ye concern. Your powers grow weaker by the day, leave now least ye be left here to die."
A sorrowful look could be seen on her face. "Know you this. Ever has the land protected the Ilnahi. I am chosen as the Ilnahi, and must in return protect the land. Your people have always been kind and generous to us, please do not make me do that which we both will regret. You know me, I am Lady Kirtan Aloran the Ilnahi. You know what I am capable of doing."
"Mayhap once upon a time. The old days are gone. Both of our troops will lay waste to you if need be. This battle must take place, one side must loose." replied the same voice.
"Both sides will loose, even should I be overthrown. With my death the last of the old magic will fail. The lands around here will turn to barren desert. What you fight for will be lost, by your own doing. Please I beseech you. Leave this place, fight somewhere else to have your war."
"There is nowhere else. Here is our last hope, and there is not enough for all. Of once a world full of life, we are all that remains. We need the food this area provides. We will have it, one way or naught." replied the same voice.
"Very well then. Come, and lets be done. You will doom us all, but so be it." the woman sighed heavily. She knew this was a battle she could not win. She had to try, however. As long as brother did not spill brothers blood, all might be well.
The fight was short but intense. On both sides the closed in on her. Wind, lightning, and fire rained down apon those who dared get to close. The earth bucked under them, and turned from ground to mud and back without warning. The very elements of nature rushed to aid her, but they were very weak. Soon, they failed, and they were apon her.
Much of what happened next, can not be told to all. Finally they tired and decided to end her life. One stood over her, ready to deliver the final blow. Broken, she did not even try to defend herself. The sword fell, ending her life. As her life rushed from her body, the sparse magic she had fled also. The area browned and died almost immediately. Now the whole world was barren and lifeless. No food would grow for hundreds of years. By then it would be too late.
Seeing what they had done, the people stopped and stared. A evil mocking laughter could be heard. One of the men transformed into a dark hideous beast. "Fools, now you are condemed. You have served me well, in destroying the last safe haven. Now, you will parish. From starvation, or at the end of your own swords it matters not to me!" the creature vanished.
Ten years later, not a soul was left alive. The world had become a barren waste, not so much as a roach left alive. From the ground where the Ilnahi fell, a tiny seed sprouted....

Ok this is going to be a rant, just to warn you. Caution is advised.
Lately it just seem people expect respect instantly. They don't give it, but hey they are uber mega awesome and you should instantly respect them. Hey, I got a little secret for you. Respect is a two way street. It's earned, not given. Oh mommy and daddy didn't tell you that? Think that million dollar trust fund or daddy's (or mommy's) money buys you respect? Sorry, not with this gal it doesn't.
While I'm at it (and risking a penalty anyhow), lets discuss those people who think they are '1337'. So your blasted good at a game. Big whoop. ITS A GAME, GET OVER YOURSELF.
No, this is not a 'children of a certain generation have no respect thing'. Seems ageless now. From 2-90 they think their above it all, and people should worship the ground they walk on. I don't care if you've made your first million by age 11 or if you have a Masters Degree by age 10. Your no better then anybody else.
I like to think I am a respectful person. I work hard, I treat people like I want to be treated. Don't mistake me for a doormat, however. You want me to respect you, then by golly you have to give it to get respect.
Yeah, I've been poor all my life. Nope, no colledge degree. No, I am not awesomely amazing at games. I'm a loyal friend, an honest person, and a hard worker. So back off the "I'm better then you".
Sorry, just had to rant, go on about your business.

That is a problem that I see at my school. The younger kids act like smart***s so to speak, and they think they are the best and that everyone should respect them. I for one do not respect them. I don't respect people when they do not respect other people.
However that is not the case with everyone.

Being 1337 (which I hate) is not always about a game. I have seen it used numerous times not related to a game in any way. 1337 or Elite or leet or whatever you wanna call it, seems to be when you are very very good at something. However I hate that so called "language" or whatever it is, and I feel sorry for anyone that uses it.

I think that you are over exaggerating here. i honestly don't think that people from 2-90 think they are above it all, as you say. Maybe it is just your experiences with certain people, but that doesn't mean you should put everyone into that classification.

I give respect to those that earn it. I don't necessarily respect people because they respect me. If someone does something that I think is really good, like help out someone that is hurt, or help a newcomer to a school or something, then I admire and respect what they have done, even if it does not directly affect me.

Hehe that is why I said it was a rant. Ok, not everybody is that way, but seems more frequent now. Generally speaking, I never assume anything about anybody (let alone group them into a specific group). Just sometimes am a very sensitive person, and rant a bit.

I think everyone should be afforded respect, then if they lose it its their problem. But its no reason to act rudely or ignore a person simply because he hasnt "earned" respect yet.

You should always treat people as you want to be treated. When it becomes apparent they think they are better then everybody, then it becomes another matter entirely. I just feel that if you can't respect anybody, you don't deserve respect. Just my opinon.

I agree. 
I know some people who don't respect anyone, and ask to be respected. I also have a theory, that the feeling you get from a person, is the feeling that you give him/her. If you disrespect someone, s/he'll will feel okay, or even want to disrespect you. There's a sort of 'balance' in those cases.
