I'm not really against Turkey's entrance in EU as it will force Turkey to open its borders with Armenia.
However, I'm deeply offended by president Bush's message. Not recognizing the Armenian Genocide just because Turkey threatens to invade Northern Iraq is the same thing as when not recognizing the Jewish Holocaust just because Iran threatens to build nuclear weapons.
Btw, 40 U.S. states have already recognized the Armenian Genocide, why can't they do it on federal level as well?
All Turkey has to do is to apologize. I wonder if there's any other Turk as bold as Orhan Pamuk to do that.

European leaders signed a new treaty that says they will reshape the European Union's institutions and streamline decision making. The treaty changes voting procedures, increases the role of the European parliament and includes a charter of fundamental rights.

James Watson, that won Nobel Prize for Physiology/Medicine, said that genetically, black people are less intelligent then white people, and that all the tests show it. He said that it's impossible that people from different geographical areas will develop on the same way, and that every person that employs black people, knows they are less intelligent.

In my opinion, this is a very racist thing to say. I think that even if they are "less intelligent", they should be treated equally, like every person.

Murat Karajan, PKK military wing leader, said that an eventual attack in Iraq from the Turkish Army, would end in defeat, because all Kurds in Iraq and Turkey would close ranks against the threat. In an interview for the Times in London Karajan points out he hopes a peaceful solution to the stand-off will be found. He thinks the only way out is for Turkey to agree to the formation of a half-autonomous state, such as Scotland, for the Kurds in Southeast Turkey.

James Watson apologizes for what he said. He says: "I cannot understand how I could have said what I am quoted as having said". Watson said those words of apology after receiving harsh criticism, especially from the academic world, and his planned appearance in London's Science Museum was canceled. Edit: James Watson was suspended from his longtime post at a research laboratory.

James Watson
There is a more extensive article here (see the last four paragraphs).
It is a delicate matter. Other scientists have criticised his comments on an academic basis. But it's a shame that the debate is drowned in political correctness with cancels of future lectures and comdemning his words as "racist". It's no surprise, you more or less ask for it if you say such controversial things to a newspaper (especially given the not so clever comment "people who have to deal with black employees find this not true", i.e. being equal)
"there is no firm reason to anticipate that the intellectual capacities of peoples geographically separated in their evolution should prove to have evolved identically. Our wanting to reserve equal powers of reason as some universal heritage of humanity will not be enough to make it so."
That seems like an appealing thought. Try recalling the men's lastest 100 m sprint final at the olympic games. Now consider: "there is no firm reason to anticipate that the physical capacities of peoples geographically separated in their evolution should prove to have evolved identically. Our wanting to reserve equal powers of reason as some universal heritage of humanity will not be enough to make it so."
I'm not saying his claims are true. But apparently many people can't even accept the possibility.

Bulgaria's request that the European common currency, euro, is also allowed to be written in Cyrillic letters seems to have been accepted. The printing of new euro bills is scheduled, on which under the EURO sign, it will also be written EBPO - the Cyrillic rendering of the word.
This is not only good for Bulgaria, but for the Cyrillic alphabet itself and all the countries that use it. That ancient way of writing has been cast in shadow by the overpowering Latin alphabet, but thanks to Bulgaria it has now won a great victory.
