Both

Well, armorer in small to medium maps.
Resistance in L or XL maps.

But I personally like resistance more coz I like to see the face of my opponent when his/her implo spell fails.....

Offense is 30%, Armourer is 15%. What would the majority prefer? ~Dragon winks~

I would go for Armourer. This is a great skill. 15% may not be very much but heh, in really big battles it can actually lead you to victory. In general, the Armourer can help you a lot when developed to expert but the _specialty_ is a killer. I have no words. Neela at 20 level take 30% less damage. 30%!!!! So, when 120 Archangels strike, you het 30,000 damage, not 44,000! It saves you creatures and this turns Arm into one of the greatest skills- and specialties- in the game

Rych, you took the words out of my mouth.  Hmm...if I pick up one or more of the resistance booster artifacts  I'll try to get resistance.  Otherwise, I find a 15% chance of a skill to work to be useless.

resistance useless?

Resistance is the ONLY skill that CAN save your butt in certain circumstances. It doesnt always work, but I have had battles that I won because of it, and also battles that I knew I was doomed due to the lack of it.

I like to use might heroes, and I ALWAYS anticipate that my opponent is a heavy magic user (on a big map).

In these cases I would prefer taking my chances resisting 20% of spells like Chain Lightning, or implosion.  And while I'm resisting, I'm kicking his @$$ with my +10 attack over his defense (extra 50% damage) and my +10 defence over his attack (75% damage taken).  In such cases armorer would be almost useless, because he wouldn't even attack, just run around trying to avoid me while casting these spells.

However, most of the time I investigate my tavern to see who his main hero is.  If it's a magic-user, resistance, if a might hero, armorer.

I'd take armorer because it's effect is two-fold.

Not only do you lose less creatures when you are attacked, but that also means your retaliation does more damage.

Plus it always works. it's a good skill, especially on heroes with high defense, becasue then the reduced damage you take gets reduced even more.

it gies you lasting power in a fight, so you have enough time for your excellent strategies to lead you to victory, even against a superior army.

armorer isnt only 15%, it does more its tested, its almost as good as offense, the math is just different, or why you think you do like zero damage to tazar or the other armorers if it would be only 15% ?

if i read on xl i go with resistance i gotta laugh, on xl in the end fights implosion means nothing with those huge armys that rumble in final battle usually, armorer and offense is a must on large maps.

armourer and offense all the way

RESIST Resistance!!!

I must say I never take it and anytime I get thorgrim I or my opponent prolly get the black orb that totally negates resistance.

Sure It can save you in rare times (and you probably remember every time it saved your butt because the times are so rare)

Offence and armour work in every fight against creatures resistance doesnt. In every battle human, ai or just wandering creatures.

There is no way i am wasting one of my 8 skills on something that is only good (and maybe not at all) in a few final battles against human opponents (ai knows before he casts a spell if you are gonna resist, therefore doesnt throw it)

Armourer

I don't like to relly on skills that aren't sure to have effect, but with rampart and some resistance bonus artifact I might pick resistance.

more often than not, I fight the pu$$y magic users who don't even attack ... therefore, armorer wouldn't do a damn thing.

but you have a very good point ... in XL maps, your armies will usually be SO big, that you'd rather resist blind than implosion ... so for those maps, I'll pick armorer.

I must say both skills are good in my opinion, but, sometimes resistance is useless .
So I'd have to go with the armourer, helps you in ALL the battles

That is right

Resistance can help you only when fighting a spell-caster. But when you battle creatures, armourer is MUCH more efficient. Not to mention 20% is really meagre. It may not help you in a single battle while arm, as Zud pointed out, helps you ALL the time.

On of the most importent things in homm3 is to pick good skills for your main hero. You have to pick them wisely. Almost all skills can be replaced by artifacts or negated by them. Leadership , Luck, Wisdom, Schools of magic, Resistance - if our opponent has any artifacts that negates the effect of those skills (like spirit of obsesion, orb of inhibition, recanter's cloak) then u have picked one ore more uselles skills for your hero.
Or if you see boots or cloves of speed waiting for you - is it nessesary to pick logistics, mayby to reserve the empty slot for a different skills?

But can u think of any way how to negate aromorer (offence)or replace it? Sooner or later, no matter how good magic u have your troops will have to fight hand to hand. And such skills like aromrer (and offence) are of greeat meed then.

So my vote goes for armorer
