So, after a long time I played some HommV yesterday and I noticed something, which I don't know if it was a bug or a game feature:

I was a warlock and had eagle eye aswell as the tome of destruction.

After some battles I swapped the tome in favor for something else and I still had at least one spell from the tome, empowered deep freeze.

So, did I "eagle eye" myself by casting it? Or is this a bug?

I guess it's a bug because I only learned deep freeze and I used quite a few other spells not in my spellbook permanently, besides that, it does pathetic damage (looks like it stuck at that damage where I gave away the tome).
But then, maybe it's a feature because I've only learned empowered deep freeze, cause I never casted it not empowered.

Anyone knows?

If you lose/flee/surrunder all damage taken by walls is repaired after battle.

You may have picked it up from a pass-through-castle.
The thing with eagle-eye yourself sounds funny. Please try it out with other spell and report back .

You can try Magnomagus mod, it fixes a lot of spell balance issues and  more!

Hello to everyone who reads this message, and I need some advice.

I have play with my friend in "Heroes Might and Magic V: Tribes of The East", rossian version (I we have no english version..).
We played the game 2x2, we together versus the two AI allies too.

The Map: I do not remember the name exactly - some islands (4 islands)

Difficulty: Hero (the maximum of)

Ma' friend: pre-selected - Haven, hero - Laslo, bonus - artifact.

I am: pre-selected - Dungeon, hero - random (Lethos rolled), bonus - random,

AI-1: all random (Inferno rolled),
|
AI-2: all random (the Stronghold rolled).

the all other options: by default

I knew that my friend is playing in the HMOM5 less good than me , but very soon I realized that he is making more and more fat army and I am losing army in the each fight against "neutral" monsters (especially from the Obsidian Golems)...
Than AI comes , I have managed to defeat this stupid AI suddenly the same AI comes the second time with a huge army and then - GAME OVER for me.
In general my army was so pathetic... compared to my friend's hordes

Perhaps in this version of Heroes.. the Dungeon is so weak... I do not know, but in previous one I completed the full campaign on the "Hero" difficulty (this is was a HELL not easy) but still I have no such problems and hardcore like in my game with friend...

So is there anybody know a good tactics for Dungeon in 2x2 game?
But without sacrificing of units in the town special building, and without splitting the units to sacrifice them into fight (i.e. 1 Assasin to take a counter-stike of neutral unit..), my moral compass cannot allow me such things..

Just go destructive, enlightenment, logistics for creeping and then add sorcery. In first 2 weeks you need stalkers + destructive for ranged or otherwise dangerous neutrals and furies + hero attacks vs slow walkers. Save as much mana as possible, pick your fights well and you'll have a blazing fast creeping. Takes practice though. On week 3 buy hydras for tanking and upgrade if necessary.

Ps heroic is an artificial difficulty, the AI won't play any better. But it will get an insane discount when building its town so you are playing vs a cheater I'd recommend hard.

Luck be also very usual due to the perk giving you chance for double damage done by spells.

@Elvin - I have Destructive Magic right after second level of Lethos (I do not like this hero.. not because his low power, but because his methods of warfare... I think Raelaag was a much more powerful than Lethos.), then I have obtained Master of Fire, Master of Ice, then Sorcery and then a War Machines + Ballista (I was going to the Fire Ballista! ).

But the problem was next, my 2 Level town creatures (maidens) was a target NUMBER ONE for the neutrals... and this is compared to their low defense, and to their VERY LOW week/summon gave a sad results...
I was surrounded by Archer-neutrals + 3x Obsidian Golems that protected a roads to the Mines and Recruiting buildings . The 3rd level Minotaures changed this sad picture and there was the only good soldiers that I have... Their 30 HP is superior thing when your army have no archers (I have only Stalkers but not Assassins)
Usually only them was still alive after the battles .
My Second Hero have a good level too, his level was only a few levels lower than my main Lethos have. I many times switched the army, while the main hero regenerating Manas into Town, second one making a battles against monsters. Suddenly AI killed my second hero .

My friend with Haven's Crossbowmans (2nd level) wiped almost anything in his Island, and two times defeated Stronghold hero, that came for him, and still my friend have a lot of army alive...
Then the same! Stronghold hero (Telsek) came to the my Island first time - I defeated him with heavy loses...
When I have build Riders and Hydras, he came the second time with Cyclops in army and defeated me into castle. Cyclops (ultimate level creatures from Stronghold) can threw Goblins over walls - this is making horrific damage to defenders . The Destructive magic was not so effective against them...
The End of story.  

@Antalyan - I do not know why I have no took this ability.. the many times Luck in my Lethos level up was. Second time I will take it perhaps.  

P.S. Nah, I have never played in "Heroes" on the difficulty less than "Hero", at least I have not remembered it .. So this difficulty is the right what I need .

@Elvin - So your point is next: Perhaps I may to rush and smash "Hero-AI" after 3-4 weeks with Dungeon's army?
Is The Dungeon a very good for a rushes without "Sacrificing the creatures in the town" ??? O_o .
I do not know actually, I have a low experience with the custom-maps, I have only played Campaigns.

With my Raelaag campaign the things was a much more simpler - Riders + Hydras + Raelaag's Initiative ability and his superior magic skills making a wonders. But in the ToE the Dungeon is so weeeeeeak... on my opinion  

I have lose two times with my friend (first time I have played against him, there was 3 human-players "all against all", I was with Dungeon, and he was a Frotress, he beat both us so hard... ). I do not want to lose a 3rd time

Lethos is a whole different case

Flaming ballista is awesome and you have good odds for both attack and warmachines. Allows you to creep without consuming mana as well. But all the more reason to rush the opponent before the game gets too long. Or mentor away the machines before the final battle if you can spare the gold.

Furies are always targeted first, you are not supposed to use them for anything other than slow walkers. But if you play carefully you can take down 999 warmongers with 1 fury, all you need are hero attacks Same with squires, vindicators, golems and so on. Though 5 speed units like minos might get troublesome if they are split in 4 stacks and they get lucky with morale.

Vs archer neutrals you will need stalkers to avoid casualties. Visiting a mage guild 3 will help as they tend to be split in 4 stacks when your forces are weak so circle of winter, fireball or firewall can hit two targets per cast. Secrets of destruction can help. Minos aren't useful in creeping, only if you are not feeling confident that your stalkers will survive vs shooters.

Destructive hit&run or mentoring kamikaze warlocks is a possible strategy if enemy is stronger than you but it's probably not your style, just like it wasn't mine Since you mentioned Telsek, ballista can be insta-killed with cold death. And while dungeon has the most trouble vs orcs, telling me that thrown goblins decimated your army can only mean you were doing something wrong. The damage should have been pitiful.

On that note, orcs are weak vs dark so if the map has a utopia and/or arcane library then you may want to use Lethos. This is not a good matchup for destructive and certainly not for lategame.



Dungeon, academy and necro are very good rushing factions and good at powercreeping without many casualties. Of those necro and dungeon are probably the fastest and neither needs much army from the town. Once they start they can keep going

Fortress is another town that gives dungeon trouble. You should rush them fast as they will be almost unstoppable later on. But that's why they have slow development early.

I don't want to oppose Elvin on anything about combat because he is a far better player than I am but thought I'd share something I discovered a strategy that worked for me when playing Dungeon.

I did not like losing the maidens in creeping battles and if you use non-upgraded ones early and then go against shooters of any type you will lose what is arguably one of your most important units.

So, early game I would not use the Maidens till they are upgraded (I also preferred to upgrade the shooters before any serious battles) and instead of lizard-riders I go first for the hydras because they soak up so much more damage. I found saving my Furies till mid-game made my upgraded army much more powerful...especially when their morale is firing like crazy and giving double-hits. Also, when I first made my Witches, I would split them into two stacks so I could cast 2 Slow-spells twice during the combat and that helped too.

Elvin - You told a something a total different from my experience. The "Hero" difficulty - that's a difficulty of which we played 2 times... Is means that "neutral" monsters have a 40% numbers bonus comparing to the "Normal" difficulty.
That I have read in your community "Heroes V Manual - version 3.0".

So in example my a very sad, painful, hardcore and losing attempt in the "4 islands" map 2Players vs 2AI-players.
Day 1: The "Wooden Mine" protected by "Hordes" (50-100) of "Goblins" ;/ , the "Maidens Recruiting Building" protected by "Hordes" of "Crossbowmans" the "Docks" (the place where I can by a ship and than go to rush a foolish AI) protected by "Hordes" or "Many" (25-50) "Obsidian Golems" . And the same darn picture on a whole Island..
The Week/summon of "neutrals" is 1week/+11%, that is are pretty good...

The "Hordes" is mean 4xStacks of ~20 noobs in each, and I have a hell no idea how to run&hit from it just 1 Maiden... O_O. I do not remember that I have ever used such tactics before... Perhaps this tactics can work, I do not know.

Cyclops with 235 HP, armor/attack ~30/30 (that they was in Telsek army..) and a HELL good magic resistance it is a big trouble for the defenders of the town.... The can throw goblins which is dealing a Area of effect damage, that can easily kill few Riders of Dungeon or 1 Hydra. In addition a Cyclops can eat the goblins and restore a FULL hp - that is a superior skill, as for my experience in fights against Stronghold, in the long-time battles.  

Perhaps I will complete the Heroes of Might and Magic V: Tribes of The East campaigns on "Hero" difficulty setting, I just curious what happens with Izabel and Raelaag... And then I will have a much more experience to play with my friend in custom games . I played this campaign for some time before, and there was a very easy, I before this smelling undead Arkantos, but I have a lost my saves

Because for now, with my skill of gaming, it is almost impossible to "rush" anything with Dungeon on the custom map under "hero" ....  ;/

Thanx for a new tactics you explained, I will use it .

markkur - Yeah I am agree, that Maidens suffer superior losses in the early game (at least with my gaming skill), so perhaps I will not use them in early period.

About Hydras before Riders - This is a very strange, as I remembered from Raelaag campaign, Riders can bite things if the things attacked by allies. So - i.e. you have a 30 upgraded Maidens, and 20 Riders , you can split 30 Maidens in stacks by 15, and with their HUGE initiative you can kick some things near Riders and lizards will bite those things too = Double damage!
That is, and the Hydras price (as I remembered 1400/per Hydra) making for me a Hydras much more lees attractive variant .

Obviously maidens should be upgraded and never used vs shooters. That's why I mention slow walkers. The idea is, wait, attack and return till they reach you, move 1 tile out of reach, wait or attack and return, move 1 tile out of reach and so on. With your initiative you can avoid being hit indefinitely vs 4 speed and for a long time vs 5 speed till enemies get lucky with synchronized morale ^^

Heroic difficulty is pretty terrible. It won't make you a better player, you'll only learn to be a better AI abuser or you'll be 100% screwed when you get specific neutrals, depending on faction. That is neither enjoyable nor balanced nor meaningful. Hard has such cases too but not like heroic.

For instance, imagine your sawmill guarded by 40-50 assassins. Most factions will be screwed then and there whereas the losses would be manageable on hard. Then imagine the same with hunters. You might survive 20+ of them if careful and/or lucky but 30-40 of them are just about untouchable. The only thing heroic accomplishes is slow down the pace of the game, make you completely avoid certain stacks or screw you up if said stacks are unavoidable. So what if you fight them 1 week later on heroic? The cool thing would be to manage them one week earlier on hard. That is the real challenge.

PS you should upgrade to 3.1, it is much better than 3.0.



About your example:
Horde of goblins are easy with stalkers and some hero aid. Slow and not really a threat.
Horde of crossbowmen will require full mana, a destructive spell and you'll certainly lose a number of stalkers. You'll absolutely have to split the stalker stacks to block all crossbowmen before they act, to buy you time.
Golems are a piece of cake with just 1 fury and hero attacks I'd attack those before crossbowmen to gain an easy level.

Cyclops shooting does not have an area of effect so you either use some mod or something else happened. PS campaigns won't help you get better, only real games can help you improve. Oh and don't use raiders in creeping. You don't need them and it's easy to lose some here and there.

I will try to not use the Maidens in the next battle, I mean against shooters of the monsters ("neutrals").

I know that "Heroic" do not make me a better playes such as real-players oppounents in the "Hamachi" stuff for example, but I am do not want this . I cannot do anything, my style - is only "Heroic", my style is only - a way of goodness in the all-pc-games, no "sacrificing living creatures", no killing innocents, and so on.. and only few games I cannot beat on maximum difficulty, the games such as "Civilization" on SID .

Yeah the faction! - My friend with his noobish-skill , have In The End (like Linkin Park - "In the End" ) of our game (when my Lethos in the Town have been destroyed by  Telsek).
Upgraded Peasants ~250, Crossbowmans ~100, Upgraded Footmans ~70, some Griffons and priests. And I have Riders ~8, Hydras ~4, Witches ~6, Maidens ~20, Minutaurus ~30, and some Stalkers. - and my friend have shipped to me the almost all his money and resources to help recruit this warriors before the Telsek's attack on the town.

So my friend with his Haven have a FAR more better situation than me, he can defeat Telsek (as he did two times before)... But a stupid AI somehow choose me as a target .
And there was not the Stronghold's Goblins near the basic, mine!  There was An Academy Goblins that can shoot, and have a not os bad initiative! they killed almost the all my Maidens in the first day Still I have managed to take a many mines, but with a heavy loses on my side..

Perhaps I have hallucination because of lose , but as I remembered - Cyclopes has AoE range attack with Goblin thrower...

I will keep in mind the tactics against Golems with Maidens. thanx.

This is a pretty good question. And I have no answer for this. ;/

I can say that I have never used any sacrificing stuff, and all in my army is equal (included Minotaur slaves, actually that is my favorite unit in HeroesV:ToTE., for now).

My motto is next: the your race, your faction, your ancestors and the other similar stuff is means almost nothing - The main thing is who you actually are, and what choices you making.

I want to play in Heroes (Campaign on "Heroic" awaits! Where this blue-on-black anagram Arkantos? ), but I can not do it for now , at least before I have complete some stuff (actually before I will solve one very easy, but for me a very hard problem from Probability Theory Problems book. - I am dumb as hell   )

I have updated Pitsu's main post by adding what Heroes of Might and Magic 5: Tribes of The East version 3.0(unpatched) stood for as for Fall of year 2007.

It quite describes the status of this awesome game as of right now, 2016.

Minimum and Recommended requirements of anyone's machine is fully described in its out-most details.

"Celestial Heavens" it is a some-kind of a patch? It is more cool than H5.ToTE? Coz' I am like Heroes 5, and perhaps when the campaign will be done, I will patch it..
