ToE Question

I have played through the original HOMM5 and have been playing HoF for some time.  Done all of the campaigns and included maps.  Since then I've been playing a lot of downloaded maps and random maps -- still a lot to go.

I have ToE, but have never loaded it.  Questions are "Should I go ahead and load it?  What would it do to my game play in HoF?"  I only play single player against AI.

Play tote, dump the rest I'm serious. And no it won't affect the others.

I think I shall take your advice in the next day or two.

I've been looking at the printed manual that came with my ToE.  I've spotted several differences between ToE and HoF -- other than the obvious addition of a new faction.  Is there a post or a thread that gives a spread sheet on the differences?

I assume that I can easily find the expanded user produced manual for ToE, similar to those I have downloaded for the other two versions.

I have now installed ToE, and am reading and studying before beginning any real play.  I immediately hit one snag that I do not understand.  In the walkthroughs on the Celestial Heavens site, there is a statement
Quote:
For a might hero you can never go wrong with eagle and rainbow

I do not understand what this means.  I can find no skills on the skill wheel with those names.

Any suggestions as to what is meant there?

wot! eagle doesn't mean arcane intuition?
yup TotE patched 3.1 is hugely better due to alternative upgrades, additonal faction orcs, better skillwheel, somewhat better balance

@Dale: reading and studying before beginning any real play...nice
best manual is fan manual 3.1 which has the best info, available from a website, I forget which but it's around somewhere if you search

Got it, thanks -- and it is a lot better than the manual that comes with the disks.  But then that was very true for the other two versions also.

Now I want to find a copy of the campaign maps and included single maps that I can look at with the editor.

(a few minutes later) -- found them here: http://www.heroesofmightandmagic.com/heroes5/original_maps.shtml

Tribes of the East is really great in my opinion, way better than Hammers of Fate. Just finished Gotai's fifth mission on Heroic (I know it's late, but started few weeks ago) and I have to say that conquering that Shibadayayayayayaya town was a pain in the ass without Shatter Dark Magic. Hadn't taken a good look on Orc faction and skills before I started out so I had no idea about it.

Has anyone completed the WHOLE game on Heroic yet? (HoMM5, HoF and ToE) Or is it "impossible", seeing as Ubisoft themselves apparently don't know if it's possible? (Their description of Heroic as difficulty level) I can think of several missions in both HoMM5 and HoF that will be really tough seeing as I had a hard time completing them on Hard.

Ah great to hear, then I won't play in vein ;P Ya second orc mission was a pain in the ass, but when I found out how to do it, it was actually pretty easy. I had problems catching up in the beginning but then I found out that the other hero had a ballista which helped a lot. And that teal hero was pretty easy too seeing as all you had to do was take out his catapult, centaurs, ballista and wyverns and he would flee. After that, nothing really challenging.

I had lots of problems with a dwarf mission on hard though, "Laszlo" or whatever it's called. They always came up stronger. But I think the reason might be that I didn't really put any effort into making my hero strong (taking skillers, reaching max levels, building all rune buildings to get a variety of runes) and also that I wasn't really good at rune fighting. I'll give it a go again on Heroic when I'm done with ToE.

Ah you must mean back in HoF. I remember I had rushed through the map and took Laszlo - who had a rather strong army - down with might/light/runes but forget what week it was.

I recall these campaigns are available in tote version to download, of course skillwheel will be different than in HoF but you should be fine anyway.

Well£¬the hero of Laszlo is really strong , it is nearly impossible to overcome him with stat or skill. But it is not hard to win as you have enough army to fight.

I can think of at least two major mistakes I made playing the dwarf missions: not putting enough effort into building my hero (as in not visitting all skill buildings in the previous maps, not reaching max levels etc) and also that I never really learnt how to fight with runes. Will take those two factors into more serious consideration when I take HoF on again on heroic after I'm done with TotE.

The major issue I had was being unable to raise an army strong enough to face my opponents. This is basically what always happened (replayed several times):

I effectively got hold of all the mines, dwellings and artifacts in my area with very few losses and I built my town as fast as I could. But by the time I had like 2 or 3 of the first version of the dragon, the reds appeared through the gate with like 10+ achangels (don't remember exactly), seeing as they always combined the forces from their two towns on one hero, meaning I would be outnumbered 2 to 1 even if I kept up with them. 2 to 1 is totally doable though don't get me wrong, but it never came down to 2 to 1 anyway.

Does it run?

I would just like some advice before I buy Tribes of the East.  Vanilla Heroes 5 ran well on my computer after patching through v1.6.  I recently bought Hammers of Fate and it is basically unplayable because it crashes all the time.  It doesn't seem to have been supported hardly at all like vanilla was.

Is ToE more stable than HoF was?  Does it actually include the features that Vanilla Heroes has like the sleep button or the dark energy meter?

I think HoF ran decently if you patched it up to latest version (2.3 or whatever).

Anyway, TotE is markedly less bug-plagued than H5 Vanilla and HoF, I think people generally had a decent playing experience with TotE. And yes, it should have all features of H5 Vanilla, and then some more.

HoF 2.1 is the latest version.  I didn't have problems with it.

Tribes (3.1) does have the Dark Energy meter and also has alternate upgrades.

Patched to the latest version. Vanilla 1.6 comes out later than HOF 2.0 .
1.6/2.2/3.1 all run well on my computer.
