OK, I got it on the third try, but mainly thanks to some AI stupidity (it passed by some easy pickings in the beginning, essentially handing me some 300 heads).  I did lose my goblins in a nasty fight with ~150 vindicators, but other troops fared a lot better.

The gold was indeed easy to collect, so that helped.  I had such a massive advantage that even after getting 1,000 heads, I just followed my rival around, snatching easy pickings from him whenever possible.  He would liberate some upgrade building for me, or some chests, and I would take advantage  I even upgraded my troops at the military post.  Visited most upgrade buildings, and only headed home after the rival got his 1,000 (I had boots of speed that he presented me with, so I could outrun him easily.)

ETA: Wow, thanks, Nebuka!  I'll try your replay later (do I just drop it into the save directory?)

Should be this folder:

\My Documents\My Games\Heroes of Might and Magic V - Tribes of the East\Profiles\<your profile>\Replays

Put it there, and in game go to options->replay.

Really great thing which took me by surprise with ToTe. Though, seems it was there even before (I just didn't know).

That works, thanks.  Nice fight

OK, I am now struggling at the beginning of the second mission.  First week I only managed one fight, for the iron mine - with too many casualties, even after several attempts.  Those new wardancers have insane defense!  Second week, only managed to take the mercury.  Attempts to break out of the area lead to heavy losses (wardancers and hunters, or wolves, which are even worse).  I am really lucky to get the week of Gold, or else I would be broke, too.  Barbarian buildings are expensive.

Any advice?  I feel like a total noob here, even though I've played HoMM for quite a while.

LOL, this is embarrassing!  An AI glitch saved my arse again.  On the 3rd week brown came after me, and I had to sacrifice the other hero because I had nowhere to run, and he went for whichever hero had no army.  He did not, however, attack my city (even later, when I left) nor attacked Kujin with army.

Anyway, teal never came after me, but its turns started to take much longer after a month.  Turns out there was a traffic jam, with two heroes and two caravans stuck at the gates of the city!

You purchase a Talisman from one of your Stronghold towns.

I ran into a rather nasty bug in the last mission of the orc campaign, does anyone have a save file just before the last battle? I went ahead and cheated past it to keep playing, I had the guy out gunned by at least 4:1, but it wouldn't let me attack the city.  Any help would be appreciated  I'd like to see the final cut scene.

wiseguy,  grow faster.    The gold mine to the west is very pivitol.  Take it by day 9.  Don't lose centaurs!!!!!  Keep them alive.  Don't field them for battles that might cost you some.  Then when he attacks your city,  hole up, and take him down.  I left him with a few archers just for s's and g's, so he wouldn't run away and I could take his artifacts ;P

Mission 2

Man, i completed all non-expansion and HoF campaigns on HEROIC, but i don't know how to play Stronghold Mission 2. Played twice, beaten horribly both times. How could you beat that gold mine on day 9? And what types of units you have at the time? If you could explain day by day, it would be really helpful (and I thing not just for me, because this map is insane).

And how to beat the tan garrison, that's another good questions. I have problems with taking that stone mine guarded by Wind Dancers (took it on day 14 i think...) And then tan hero comes, and smash me. Had 15 wywerns when my best unit was 12 shamans...

Heck with Teal, what do you do vs those dang purple Sylvan guys?  With the Arcane Archers and Master Hunters, they just decimate, not to mention those dang treants.  The AA's took one shot to take down my Bloodeye Cyclops stack. Then the Master Hunters took merriment in decimating my Centaurs.

I had used horde's anger and pao kai there. Hit the treants and a part of the hunters will die. At the same time the slayers attack the unicorns on the other side so that someone can find an opnening to block them. You just need some army to do that.

Ok, that may have been one of my downfalls.  Horde's anger.  That is a warcry right?  Focused on getting my attack, logistics, war machines, ect up to expert.  May have to start over and get some warcry levels.

No, that depends on your hero level. Just build the warcry hall in town and visit.

Also playing on Heroic. Gold mine day nine is not that hard. The key in heroic is to make sure you don't take ANY experience out of the chests in the beginning. Grab gold every time and use it to build up your army (try to get citadel and shaman building week 1.) When fighting the rune pats, split your shamans into 2 stacks for slow/haste. If your hero gets to go before the runes, cast that warcry that gives your centaurs a lot of rage points as that will soak up a lot of the damage. Use Marauders as they are WAY better than Nomads. When leveling Kujin, forget Defense and focus on Attack and damage (runes mostly hurt with firewall, which defense won't do squat against anyways.) This will buff up your attacking power and your ballista. Don't let Toulain fight, just have Kujin get War Machines skill asap. With her Enlightenment and that turban you find early, she will level quickly and Enlightenment will give her free skill points.

The key is taking the gold from the chests though. By doing this, I grabbed that mine Week 2 and took Brown at the end of Week 3.

Those of you still having trouble, there's something you can do that's kind of cheap (I try not to use it much.) The starting ATB lineup in a battle depends on how many stacks you have. So, if you enter a fight and all the rune pats go before your marauders, reload and enter with a different number of stacks (split off a goblin to create another stack.) This has allowed me to take certain mines guarded by AA, Hunters, and Druids with minimal losses.

Mission 2

I tried it again. This time i took the tan garrison on week three (lost almost half of my army - Remains Orcs, Centaurs and few Shamans). I took the tan castle, all his army vanish and then came teal hero with 160 centaurs, 20 wyverns and 10 cyclops. I tried the tactics to kill catapult, but no chance. I don't have war machines skills. And of course, first catapult shot was lucky and destroyed main gate . I tried to escape him, no chance - even with expert logistic, he had much bigger moovement then me This map is reeealy boring

Some mission one hints.  There is enough loose gold lying around that you can hit 5k without taking much gold from chests.  You can also afford to wait to talk to the goblins till after you have found enough of that loose gold.  There are plenty of walkers arround you really can avoid fighting anything hard unless you really just want to.

When the contest first starts head out the gate to the right in the town.  There will be some vindicators guarding a exp 'shrine' and a stack of air elementals.  Feel free to take the Vindicators, and the elementals if you feel like it.  Logistics helps, but you should really focus on attack, leadership, or something to help you deal damage at first.  You'll need it.  Anyhow if you keep heading north you will start to see peasant huts.  This is where most of your heads will come from.  (There is a arena guarded by griffens off to the right facing the road from the town you started from, can really help a lot).  Fight mostly the renegade version of peasants and vindicators if you can.  The wolves can really be a pain, but they do guard a witch hut.

Focus on peasant huts if you can, and you won't really need the stolen heads.  If your enemy gets close and you are not, by all means use it however.  I tried a few different things, but even on heroic there was times I had 1000 heads when he had a mere 800.  That's because he generally goes for the higher teir creatures.  There is also a stable you can use to your advantage.

My general path from gate of town facing away from town is, west..then east (and a little north) to road.  You should see the first peasant hut there..take it and the vindicators and renegade peasants out.  Should be able to see the stables here, so grab that.  Then head west along the road, fighting any walkers you see besides wolves (and even them if you wish).  You will pass the goblins, but feel free to ignore them for now.  Head north pass the goblins, again killing peasants and vindicators (you will be able to see the wolves here that guard the hut, take them if you want).  Then head down back to the road.  To the south there is another vinidcator/peasant/hut combo..take them also.  Then back to the road and west to the griffens and arena.  They will hurt you, but that arena is worth it.

After you are done at the arena, you should just look around for more walkers, or anything guarding money/chests that you think you can take.  There is boots of swift journey somewhere, but not positive where.  Stick as close to the road as you can, and get logistics if you can, and you should be fine.  If your enemy gets too close, feel free to go back to the goblins and change things by 300 (he looses 150 and you gain the same ammount).  Keep in mind there is a side quest to keep as many warriors alive as you can.

Note : The Air Elementals at the beginning only guard a +knowledge crystal think a chest and maybe some resources.  Not really important to take them, but if you can you should (if you can with no or little deaths)

One Khan One Clan second mission HELP NEEDED

how do i get the spell to summon a boat? i have 4 heroes and none of them have the spell, someone help me plz! im on my 9th month in that stage and cannot complete it

Quote:
boy, the second mission is a hassle. Even though you're supposed to talk with the clans, they are all hostile to you until you manage to reach their town. Both the brown and the teal tribe have heroes with sizeable armies running around. I managed to scare the brown one off, but he and his army were lost when I talked to his chief. Joy. Now I have the teal hero chasing after Kujin with a huge army consisting of 19 bloody cylops and big numbers of anything else.
Even if I'd managed to breach the first garrison sooner (which took me a whole month, and I still had only like a third of most creatures there, except Wvyerns), I don't think I could beat that one.
By the way, on the first try, that hero even came through the garrison (without having to fight it, they are allied) and stomped down everything I had at that point.
