When they came through the vortex I followed them and attacked their academy.Know I can explore the area with them couring in fear, because I have 5 castles and they have 2.ANd red is dead.

The point is I let them conquer an area while I conquered an area. Then I chased them with a big army.THey DOn't bother me anymore.
Well the key is to gather all the parts of the Dragon Set(And from previous mission)(That's what i did)And then if you can't defeat the last castle just outnumber him then attack

I had some other funny thing to help outnumber him:
Hire any orc hero you see in tavern. Lvl them up a few lvl's, then give them all warmongers/maulers/warriors, wich will be quite many, then send them to the memorty mentor, and let them get the "Defend us all" ability=) (grants hero twice as much goblins as there are warriors/maulers/warmongers in hero's army). Then you'll get many gobins. Horde's Anger is verrry nice then=)

I'm about three weeks into the last Orc mission, and just realized that I suddenly have Instant Travel.  Is this a bug?  It seems like it would make this map a lot easier--being able to hop over all those big sentries to loot and such.

Anyway, if you're supposed to have it I'll use it, but it was disabled on the previous maps.

It's not a bug per se. Maybe they forgot to ban it though, there are countless places you can get to early with that spell without dealing with the mixed neutrals that guard them. Although there aren't any places you could go to before you are supposed to, so it's not really harmful. Just rather unusal for a campaign map. And easy to abuse, that's why it's usually banned in campaigns.

If you don't know, you've apparently not scanned the entire map. Look under the shroud, and find the thing you're missing.

Just finished the 3rd mission.  One of the easier missions (imo) so far.  *some basic spoilers ahead*

Started already with Leadership, Archery, Fire arrows...
Changed later to Leadership, Frenzy, (dang that one skill that gives you rage with morale can't remember name)

Started with Logistics to expert.  Got rid of it altogether for Luck.
Luck > Magic resistance > Barbs Luck.

Started with and kept War Machines > Ballista , but added Tripple Balista.

Expert Shatter Dark, The perk that doubles mana cost and the one that slows turn by 25% (yeah it's worthless on this map might want to have something else)

Expert Battle Rage

Memory of our Blood.
Powerful Blow
Think Excruciating strike, but not sure.

Also started with the sorcery like skill, ditched that altogether, left me with a completely open slot for later.

Ok this walkthrough is not too through, as I didn't have to go through it 15 times hehe.  It was pretty easy.

First Bonus Selection.  1 Cyclops, 6000 Gold, Dwarven Hammer.
I went with the Hammer, but that gold might be a good idea too.

Get at least 1 extra hero.

You start off with quite a few creature generators, I honestly suggest you work up to your capitol and get the resource generator as fast as you can.  Though that slows down your town generation, you will need as much funds as you can.  Hire all the extra creatures and head east. Only one fight on this side (don't go down the road until both east and west areas near your town are conquered).  There is a ore generator and a creature guarding a artifact, kill them and grab it, head back toward the town (any loose resources I assume you know what to do).  By the time you get there the creatures you hire will be there.  Get them, and any that your buildings might have hatched and head west.

Wood, some Serephem, and some vindicators.  I suggest leaving the Angels for now, kill the vindicators and go on west.  Note with the Rakasha (or however that blasted name is spellecd) there are a LOT of them and they have djinn help.  They guard a gold generator tho.  Take all the generators, kill all the creatures, head back to your town IF you have any extra creatures.  If not, consider taking those Angels if you can.  Beside the +1 attack place they guard a arti the ogre shield (it's second half is on a island).

Now when you go south you face a choice, and it is a terrible one.  After you kill the demons, there are some Pheonix.  You really need to get past them (will explain why later).  Just remember howmany there are double that, and that is actually how many you have to kill.  They guard a place where you can make a boat, some resources, and an arti.  This whole map, take gold from chests.  You will need it desperately.  Now, there is a observatory that will reveal a catapult.  This is why you face a hard choice.

On week two it starts destroying your creature generators.  However, blue will start showing up the second you buy a boat...you need to get over and destroy that catapult, but be careful with blue.  Your secondary will probably not be able to keep them away from your town.  Maybe...but I won't guarantee it.  Once the catapult is down, send your main BACK and start mapping out.  As I said this walkthrough is not as through.  There are a lot of nice things for you to pick up, and your main should do most of the fighting till maxed out.  Never trade resources in your town unless absolutely desperate.  There is a trading post no farther then a day or two from your town.

There is only maybe two towns you HAVE to fight by yourself.  Every other town can be destroyed for 45 ore from catapults that are near them.  I would suggest this instead of tackling them in person.  You destroy the entire army they have in them also.

Blue has normal upgrade haven troops, red has alt haven upgrade troops.  You will most likely defeat blue before red.  There are a whole lot of two way portals, use them to your advantage.  This time don't be afraid to let one or two of your secondary spread out.  There is so much exp on this map that your main will be max about 1/3 of the way through.  Keep a hero at your base...red and blue have a dozen ways to get to it.  Water, and at least two portals each.  Though they 'fight' each other, their heroes avoid one another (what the?).

Like I said, it is doubtful you will be short of creatures...but funds are VERY slow to trickle in till later (there is like 5 gold mines on the map, and even they don't cut it till much later in the game)

There are a bunch of artifacts.  Ended up with both ogre arties, the master pendant, a couple of the dwarven artifacts, and a bunch of miscellanious arties on the last fight.  Just take the east part first, and then work on the west.  Blue is a bit easier then red, and blue is to the east.  Your going to have to retake a few gold mines several times.

Now there is a part that you see some red and blue fighting.  Just destroy the creatures guarding the catapult on the hill and use it to take out the creatures in the garrison.  There is a memory mentor to the far south east.

Blood rage and morale is pretty much key here.  Memory of our blood and the building that grants rage is mandatory.  Any other skill that adds to rage is great.  Keep your Shaman split, keep an eye out on what is in an army that you fight (several neutral stacks house some dangerous haven troops).  Watch your Cyclops. Oh and make sure that your main guy is the one who destroys ALL of the peasant huts.  This was one of the easier maps.

The map is divided in sections. For what I remember, you need to visit a Crystal of Revelation in each of the sections before you can pass on to the next. Did you already visit it in the section in which you are now?

To each their own with skills.  With the AI I don't mind going off the beaten path with skills.  Now for a human opponit, I absolutely agree with you that defense is not a top notch skill to take.  With stronghold if you take attack I would not go the archery route however.  There are far better choices for a town with 1 archer (not counting cyclops throwing goblins that is).

Anyhow, perhaps you would like to suggest skills for this map?  It would deffinately help others.  I'm a little unconventional for most people's taste.

One of the reasons I was able to do this through walkthrough was my unconventional skill selection.  Had to restart on heroic so many times it was not funny (think around 15).  Maybe if I had saved it would have been much less, but that's me, forgetful.  After you go over the first half of the map 15 or so times, you get to know it pretty good .  So yeah, my skill choices deffinately made it harder then it had to be.

The only race that I would actually suggest defense for is Fortress.  Then only for Prepairedness (or whatever that skill is).  For a pretty much purely defensive town that can be a potent skill.

I didn't mean to imply that yours was "wrong" and mine was "right" as there's no right or wrong way of doing things. I merely suggested having less than optimal choices might have been the reason why you had such a hard time beating the map. I personally went with Log/Leadership/Attack/War Machines/Enlightenment (before swapping out Enlightenment.) Enlightenment is pretty broken now as you can hit the Level Cap (making sure you get Expert Enlightenment first), then wipe the skill with the memory mentor AND keep your stat bonuses (free +10 to stats at L20, anyone?) I didn't take archery for my units, I did it for Flaming Arrows for the ballista.

As for Defense, yeah the dwarves might benefit from it but Preparation (H) is extremely overrated. If you are getting prepped, you're not joining the fray to coordinate an offensive.

Let me describe the section that I am having problems with.  May be a bug tho.

When you first port in from the first hut you are in front of another hut.  You can purchase some wolves here.  To the north is a warmachine factory, and to the north of that is the crystal.  Got the crystal early, but cleared out the rest of the area before going to the second witch hut.  This included a border guard, a border tent (maybe two, forget colors), and various other things.  That I can see there is not a creature, item, or even random resource left in the area, but every time I try to go through the next portal I have to face some devils.  They are easy to kill, and I loose no troops, but just get booted back to do it again (guess I could max out my exp here, but they might get lucky and they don't give THAT much exp).

Is it because I have djinn and wolves in my army?

That does work, you have to face them a couple times then you get to go through.  Since a much more through walkthrough has been compiled at Celestialheavens I guess my partial walkthroughs are a bit outdated.
