Ok, I admit I may be at a loss for map 5 of the orc.  Maybe I am building wrong..if anybody has building suggestions for week 1 and 2 that would be great (on heroic).  Anyhow here is my problem.

When I first start out, I buy an extra hero using my main to get the ore generator, and the second to get the sawmill.  I hand most of the creatures off to my main, and then send the second out to grab loose resources (which means my main doesn't have to use up movement points to do so).  Now there is three areas that my main would like to go, and one that it is almost imperative that he HAS to go.

One is a place to upgrade my creatures (always a good thing).  Another is a large number of chests/resources/and artifacts (guarded by a bunch of inferno troops).  The last place he would like to go is a mercury generator (this town uses a lot of the stuff).  Now I can thrash the the troops that guard all these places, and they are sort of close by each other, but that leads to another issue.  Teal.

Even though it seems to take my main about a week and a half to reach teal's castle, it takes teal about 3 days to reach mine.  Now, even my secondary hero can really hurt teal in my castle.  Have managed to get teal down to a few skeletons with them.  It's not a problem to beat teal with my main (probably blindfolded and one hand tied behind my back).  The problem is, if I am out galavanting around to the other 3 areas, I can not reach my town in time to prevent him from taking my town.  Even though he only keeps it for a day (and I thrash him) 1 day is 1 day too long.  If I go to his town, and back, that is a long treck with only 2 resouce generators.  If I go the roundabout way, that gives Orange enough time to build an army and take the new castle I have.

My secondary heroes can't really face off against most of the stacks on heroic without costing me too many troops.

What I have thought of doing is going facing the creatures blocking the cash of goods (one of which is boots of the open road) and the mercury plant, but leaving them for the secondary hero to grab(except the artifacts) This leaves my troops unupgraded, but at least I could (with help of the stables) get to teal's town and back faster.  The question is, without logistics, is it possible to get back to my original town in 3 days (the time it takes teal to be knocking on my doorstep)?

Teal is annoying for the first few weeks, but you eventually get a message about the necromancers not being your enemies, at which point he should stop moving around entirely.
And yes, he can reach you easier than the other way around because the terrain to the south is dirt, necropolis' native terrain.
As for the large stacks, simply bypass them with Instant Travel (which isn't blocked on this map, for whatever reason) except for those guarding areas with stuff you'll want to revisit soon (like the Hill Fortress).
There is a second stronghold to the east of your starting town which is easy to take, do so as soon as possible and do your best to develop both towns, with a priority to town halls and unupgraded dwellings. The second town comes with another lumber mill and ore pit, too.
Hint for saving money: the Hill Fortress upgrades tier 1 for free, tier 2 at half prize, tier 3 at normal price. Higher tiers are more expensive to upgrade, so avoid doing so unless you direly need an upgrade.

Killing the neutral stacks is easy.  It's the fact that teal only shows up when my main is away from my town and can't reach the town in time that is annoying.  Should I go for castle asap?  With just the 1 main tower, my secondary got teal down quite a lot.  Of course I had to buy a couple extra heros and give my secondary them, as well as the ones from the creature generators you start with.

I ambushed Teal. I gave most of my troops to the secondary hero and gave the 8 Wyverns (starting bonus) to Gotai plus bought him a ballista. With his insane stats (Enlightenment is broken in ToTE), (and artifacts) he can take out most of the insane stacks (yes, playing Heroic) with just the 8 wyverns and the XXX ballista (get them upgraded to Paokais via Hill Fort ASAP). After you get the upgrade, run both heroes towards the second orc base. With Gotai's enormous army of 8 paokais and a ballista, I was able to take down the huge inferno stack (sev. devils, horde pitlords, etc.) guarding the knowledge crystal and stuff without losses. Anyways, camp the secondary next to the secondary base (take mill and ore pit) while Gotai grabs the stash with the Flame Tongue sword (Paokais are amazing and can kill SO much with the right stats on the hero). By this point, Teal will show up and be 1 turn from your empty base. Town portal back. Teal won't run away because Gotal *only* has 8 paokais so I just proceeded to whoop him with just that. Then I ran down to his base and took that too. End of problem.

Don't take the second base till you town portal back and deal with Teal or Gotai might portal to the wrong base (depending on where he is).

In fact, there were only 2 stacks near the beginning my 8 paokais couldn't take out: the crazy undead stack with 500 skelly archers, 900 skelly warriors (they killed my 8 paokais in 1 hit!) and some other stuff and the throng of seducers.

Ok, the Teal problem for map 5 of this campain and how I solved it.  Leave a secondary hero in the main town, and all your external dwelling creatures should be going there.  With a castle and capital, you should not only be getting enough creatures, but be somewhat able to afford it.  When teal first come into my area he was 'Hard' to my secondary hero.  Since I was in a full castle, he did not attack me.  Let him walk around a bit flagging the generators (hated to, but my main was already to the second stronghold, and in an open field he would have hurt bad.  Once I purchased enough creatures to make him challenging, my second hero sprang on him.  Got lucky and lost only a few creatures against his horde (his hero was level 10 I think, mine was level 1).  It was my split shammans that really ruled the day tho.  (Slow for his lich and vamps, haste for my wyverns and centaurs.)

Some notes when attacking a Necromancer.

Goblin Shamans can really save the day.  My Goblin Shamans Defile Magic really wrecked the necro's casting (Blocked the first altogether, made the second half power, and the blocked the third (and last) cast).

The double attack warriors seem to do better then the alternate upgrade.

Split Stack Shamans are life savers.  Leave something else out if nothing else.  I prefer Earth Daughters to Sky if you have upgrades, but if I remember right the sky has better init and that may make all the difference.

To be honest there is not many towns that the Goblin Shamans don't come in handy against.  Haven has the inquistor types, Dungeon the Shadow Mistress (and her kin), Academy is a smorgasborg, ect.  If nothing else they can cause the hero some havoc.

Same thing here! It really makes me mad.
I don't know how to get around it. I'm in front of the last academy town, the arrow (sword, actually) is red, double click and nothing happens, no battle, no message box, nothing!
Some serious bug there

Although I've also not received the missions "take all academy towns" and the golem one, either. I think that might be a problem. Where can one get those?
