Bounty Hunters - RP

A man of average height and build with a slight beer gut grabs a white cloth and begins wiping down the countertop. What was once a surface that reflected as a mirror was now scratched and bumpy. He picked up a few empty mugs and made his large circular wipes around the newly uncovered surface.

Carefully he placed the mugs into a bucket hidden by the bar. A rather short man entered the door and approached the counter.

"Swifty!" the barkeep yelled over the clammor. A few people turned their heads to see the man of importance. "What will it be today?" The short man pulled out a piece of parchment.

"Hey Bill. Just came to post this," he handed him the paper.

Bill quickly glanced over the paper. He chuckled.

"Looks easy enough to me," he laughed again.

"Yeah no one wants to even bother with this one. I figured I would post it here and see if someone new pops up."

"Go for it. Care to have a drink before you go?"

"No thanks," Dusty said reluctantly. He nodded his head and headed for the back corner of the tavern. Dozens of papers were scattered all over the board. Most of them were advertizements for selling and trading. A few of them were job offers. He pulled out a pin and stuck his paper to the board covering an ad for someone looking to buy an accordian.

As Dusty walked for the door, he raised his hand and gave Bill another head nod.

As he entered the bar Kah looked around.  Things were a little quiet, just like he liked it.  Being an outcast most of his life, he preferred being left alone.  He slid up to the bar.  "Anything for me yet?  So far every offer has not been accepting of me." The bartender was one of the few in this accursed town who treated him decently.  Most of the others in the town would harrass him, or even try to hurt him.

"Good timing.  Somebody just posted a job recently.  Just try not to let Jonas and his boys find you.  They see you in town, and it is likely things will go bad for you." replied the barkeep.

"I know, and don't worry I am not foolish enough to try to take them on." Kah slides some of the money he has left over the counter, and checks the postings.  The one the barkeep points out looks promising.  He memorizes the information, and turns to leave.

Jonas and his friends are coming in the front door.  Cursing Kah turns and bolts for the back.  Luck is with him, and Jonas or his flunkies do not notice him.  It was still too close for Kah's liking, the sooner he was away from this town the better.

He goes seeking the person who posted the assignment.  Hopefully, they are not picky about who they hire.

As one of the very few albinos there was, Stee Jans was an outcast. No one wanted any contact with him, since he seemed to be some sort of evil. Because he didn't want anyone to see how he was he always wore a long white robe with a cowl to cover his face, and white gloves on his hands. He were all white, if anyone had seen under his cowl they would see his red eyes, snow-white face and long white hair. He was running, since walking took long time, and he couldn't afford a horse. He was going to a new city for a new job, since no one wanted him to work for them he was a bounty hunter. He killed or captured anything or anyone for money, almost like a gentle assassin. He slowed down when he reached the gates, and walked into the city. He looked at a gang, they seemed like bullies, and he should be sure not to get too close to them. Then he saw another person also avoiding them, a half-elf it seemed. A halfling. His eyes narrowed under the cowl, the halfling missed one ear. He smiled; he was not the only outcast it seemed. Halflings were not liked really much either, especially not if they missed body parts. As he looked at the halfling, he had forgotten about the gang. He walked straight into them, and one of them pushed him away.

"What the hell do you think you are doing?!" the biggest of them said, and pulled out a knife.

"No need to get angry, I looked another way and didn't see you." Stee Jans said in a low voice, almost a whisper.

"Hah, get your voice up punk!" the big man laughed, "Or are you about to cry?"

"You better watch your mouth, my dear, rude, big man." Stee Jans said, "You don't dare to fight me without all your friends here."

The big man slashed his knife at Stee Jans' face, but Stee Jans was already under the arm, and punched the man in the stumack with all his force. The man bent, and Stee Jans rose with the agility and smoothness of a cat, his knee hit the mans face and he went down into a hurl bleeding from his mouth and nose. The other men were at him at once, screaming and roaring their anger at him. Such fools. Stee Jans thought, and pulled out his katana. He could outrun them, but that would be a shame. He would keep them away from him for as long as he could, hopefully someone would help him. They stopped a couple of meters away from him, pulling out knives and short swords.

"You're dead, punk!" one of them said.

"Better just give up!" another one said.

"You can dream." Stee Jans smiled, and moved a step closer.

They backed away, and looked at each other. Then they jumped at him all at once, he had thought they would do something like that. He dove beneath them, rolled, and stood up at the other side of them as they crashed into each others. He smiled under his cowl, and walked into a tavern to get something to drink and maybe find a job.

Bill hears the doors bang shut. He turns around to see no one standing at the door. However the board catches his eye. It seems Swifty had come back to post another bounty ad on his wall. And he didn't even stop to say hi. Bill decided that Swifty wouldn't be getting any freebees next time he comes in to drink.

Stee Jans walked slowly through the tavern, towards the counter.

"Do you want anything, stranger?" the man behind the counter says.

"I just wonder if there's any bounties." said Stee Jans in a hushed voice.

"Well, we have two." the man said, "One person has already left for the one with the porcupine, so I suppose you can go for the crocodile."

Stee Jans looked at the man behind the counter.

"A one-eared halfling?" he asked.

"How did you know?" the man said, his eyes narrowed. "Have you done him anything?"

"No, I just saw him." Stee Jans said, pulling the cloak tighter around himself. "I think I will go for the crocodile. By the way, could I get a beer I could bring with me in case I get thirsty?"

"Sure." the man says, and bring Stee Jans a beer. "Hey, I have a question for you too."

Stee Jans nodded, barely visible under the cowl.

"Why are you hiding yourself?" the man asked, "Not that it's anything wrong about it, I am only more used to peoples being themselves and shouldn't be ashamed of it."

"If you were like me you would cover yourself too." Stee Jans whispered, "Peoples hate me for the way I look, because I am different."

The man behind the counter nodded.

"Some do, a gang around here are beating up those they sees that's different." he said.

"It doesn't happen to be seven men? Pretty big, mostly armed with knives and short swords?" Stee Jans said, chuckling.

"How did you know?" the man behind the counter said.

"Well, I accidentally ran into them..." Stee Jans said, and looked away. "I suppose they are pretty pissed after I took the biggest of them down within a few seconds, and humiliated the others..."

"Well, then you should better get out of town quick, and get your bounty." the man said, "Two miles north of the town, a crocodile. I wish you good luck."

"Thank you." answered Stee Jans, and walked for the exit.

When he had crossed halfway too the door it slammed open.

"You're dead!" roared a familiar voice.

Kah was tired, hungry, and irratable.  He had been looking for the person who posted the bounty for what seemed to be forever, but had no luck.  Seems everytime he went somewhere, the individual had left to go somewhere else.  Finally he decided to go after the bounty, and try again once he was successful.

Being familiar with tracking, it did not take long for him to locate the quarry.  It wasn't alone, several small ones of its kind were sticking close to it.  Made since, not many predators in their right mind would mess with something that big, especially with all those needles.

Looking at his scimitar Kah grimiced.  Getting close to that monster was just asking for trouble.  He knew nothing of setting traps, this was going to hurt, and hurt bad.  Well nothing for it.  His only shot was to rush the creature and hope that he got close enough before it could react.

As soon as he burst from his cover, things started going bad.  Typical for him, his luck was never the best.  He tripped over a root he did not see, alerting everything for miles around probably.  That is when the needles started flying.  Cursing he rolled and turned, twisted on the ground.  Unfortunately, there was a whole lot of them.

Nothing for it, he'd have to fall back..for now.  Nurse his wounds and try again later.  Come up with a different plan.  He managed to get out of the line of fire.  It took hours to take all of the needles out of himself.  He heard some rustling, and realized his target was making sure that he was gone.  It stuck it's head out.  Pure luck, it was facing the other way, and it was within striking distance.

He brought his scimitar down, connecting to it's neck.  Not without a price though.  His hand now sported dozens of needles.  Sighing he wrapped the entire body up, and then his hand.  Limping and wincing the whole way he took the trophy to the place to turn it in.  It was going to be a long long day.

Stee Jans ran again, that was the way he always moved from place to place. He suddenly noticed a swamp-like lake. He slowed down and walked closer, this was where the crocodile should be living. He bent down close to the waterside and looked. If the crocodile were close, or far away, it would be good as invisible in the water. He started walking by the side, keeping a distance of two meter. If the crocodile attacked he had to be quick to kill it, he would not like to go into close combat with it, but he never hit with bow or anything like it, so he had no choice. Suddenly the water exploded beside him, and an enormous crocodile flew at him. Stee Jans managed to roll away, and within a second the crocodile was out in the water again; gone.

"Damn!" Stee Jans whispered, this was a sly crocodile.

He continued walking, this time with his katana out of the sheath. Again the water exploded, and Stee Jans slashed at the crocodile, but missed. The crocodile went for his leg first, but Stee Jans jumped over the giant jaws and sat down on his knees on it's back. He rose the katana and let it fall, it went through the back and out the stumack on the other side. He quickly retrieved it, so it shouldn't break by the crocodiles struggle to get free of his grip. He lay down over it, one leg at each side and covered it's eyes with his hands. It only became wilder, so he took away his hands and withdrew his katana. He slowly moved it against the eye, to get perfect accuracy, then he stabbed. The katana went straight through the eye and into the brain, and within seconds the crocodile lay still. Stee Jans rose up, slowly, and turning the crocodile over. He cut open the stumack, and searched it for the necklace. He found it, and washed it in the lake. Then he rose up and headed for the lumber yard to find the man who had set out the bounty.

A young hunter steps into the tavern, looked distinctly around, checking out everyone inside. Then to move up to the inn keeper. "Any work? Bounty hunting? Lost dogs? Anything?" Said the hunter hopeful. The inn keeper eyed him up and down.. "many bounty hunters are to town, these days" He though to himself. "No sorry sir, nothing at the moment. Sit down and enjoy a beer. the took a glass and filled with with a very vague yellow substance.

"The guy who keeps track of that, should have something new ready anytime soon" Said the Innkeeper. While thinking "Where is that guy? With these new guys coming he should get some work for them"...

The hunter turned around and started to walk strait to a table in a corner, with his beer, when the innkeeper asked "I didn't catch your name?", the hunter turned his head and said cold "Jax". He sat down and sipped to his beer. To sweet.

Kah decided to have a cold drink before going to collect the reward.  Stowing the creature someplace safe, he wrapped his hand and went into the bar.  His limp was noticable, as was his favoring his right hand.  His hood pulled tight he entered the bar.

The bartender didn't even wait for him to order, and slid his favorite brew accross the counter.  "You look like you've been in a war.  Not another fox incident...?" it was good natured ribbing and both of them knew it.

"I wish, at least that beast only took part of my ear.  This one near took out my hand and leg.  After I numb the pain," he shakes the empty container and the bartender fills it up again "I'll be back to pay my tab.  Probably won't get any profit, but at least I will feel better not owing you."

About that time the door opens again, and Jonas is standing there with 4 of his friends.  Kah sighs and looks to the back door, but apparently Jonas has gotten wind of his last visit here.  2 more people stands there.  Kah knew that this was going to hurt, no way he could take on 6, especially not injured.  No way out though.  Good thing they didn't want to kill him, he'd have bruises, but at least he'd still be alive.

"Your kind is not welcome here One-Ear.  I thought I made that clear last time.  Guess this time I will have to make sure you get the message.  Maybe even up those ears of yours." he and his cronies find this extreamly funny.

Kah just put down the mug.  Might as well get this out of the way.  Maybe even get one or two licks in before he goes down.  His luck of course is not that good, as he stands up his needled leg gives out from under him, and he falls into a right jab of one of the group.  Things just go down hill from there.

Stee Jans walked smiling into the town, the reward for the bounty had been big! The guys he had beat up last time weren't there anymore, he had escaped them three times now and would not want to cross their way again. His luck had to run out sometime after all ... then he reached the tavern again. He opened the door and noticed the one-eared elf standing alone against the gang of bullies, and drew his katana from inside the cloak. The one-eared elf stood up, but by some reason he fell. The men were on him instantly, and so were Stee Jans on them. He cut up the stumack of one of the men and another man lost a couple of fingers. The men backed away, and made a circle around them again.

"Are you OK?" Stee Jans whispered to the man, he nodded.

It wasn't a convincing nod, but it was a nod at least. Stee Jans looked at the bartender who shook his head, it seemed like he didn't want a part in the fight.

"I guess we must help each other." Stee Jans whispered and gave the man a sad smile.

The gang of bullies closed in on the human and the one eared guy, that was incapable of fighting, so it was 1 guy with his katana against 5 men. They move closer, making the ring smaller, the human kept his eyes on them all, with his katana ready to strike.

One of the bullies draw a dagger and jumped against the human, that to his suprice saw the man fall down to the floor, with an Arrow in his back. They all looked around the tavern, very confused, there in a corner stood a tall guy with his bow aiming against them!

The human in the white robe used this silent moment to act and swung his katana at one of the bullies cutting an arm off, the guy screamed which made the other people turned around and stare at their friend running around with a missing arm. The second arrow hit another guy in the leg, just followed by another one in the other leg, making the man fall to the ground. The white human finished off the 4th of the men! Just to see the last running away out the tavern.

The arrow flew beautiful through the air and hitting the runner in the neck. The arrow went right through. "Nice hit" the white human said. Jax stood still and bowed at the white human. "Thank you ?" he said. "Stee Jans" said the white human. "I'm Jax" He replied. The one eared elf was lying badly injured on the floor. Stee Jans took his arm around the elfs shoulder pulling him up. "Is there any medic in this town" Stee Jans asked the Tavern owner. Sadly he was just standing there watching the blood bath. Jax came up to bar desk: "Hello? Were there a medic here" He said with a very calm voice. The tavern owner looked at them both: "Yes, down the road, to the left."

They left the tavern with the injured elf. Jax did pay the tavern owner for the little incident.

Just a placeholder for now. The main focus of this post wasn't going to be posting another bounty, though it would be involved.

Make up a bounty for yourselves if you wish. The bounties after this should be fun, because you'll be interacting with one another and working together.

Kah was unsure what exactly just happened, or who these people are, but as they placed him on the cot in the healers abode he really didn't care.  His hand and leg were going to be useless for a bit, until the healer got him back on his feet.  He looked around a bit.  "Thanks for the help.  Probably a good thing you two were there, but I do wish it could have been done without any casualties.  Regardless I am in your debt.  Name's Kah."

He tried to rise up to shake their hands, but it was not going to happen.  The doctor came in and looked him over.  "What exactly happen to you, you look like you've seen better days."

"Some sort of porcupine and some local ruffians.  My hand and legs are numb, could the quills be poisoned?" At least that is what Kah suspected.

"Most likely, but it won't be fatal.  I can put some salve on it that will have you up and about in no time.  Your, uh, friends can wait in the waiting room if that is ok." he points to a small room off to the side.

He gets to work immediately putting some salve on the bruises and areas that were hit with the quills.  It burned a little, but at least that meant Kah could feel them again.  As he was resting the door bursts open and a man carring a young girl comes rushing into the room.

"Doc, doc!  It's little Sarah.  She was playing out by the mines and some sort of .. thing came out.  It was brown and rusty looking, and it attacked Sarah.  Seemed to be after her necklace her ma gave her.  She is hurt bad!" the doc takes the girl and places her on another bed.

"Teeth marks and something that looks like sucker marks.  What in tarnation did this?  Never heard of anything like that."

"I don't rightly know Doc.  The towns in a tizzy though.  Posted a big ol reward for the things hide.  Few people already tried for it, but it seems to eat weapons.  In fact it seems to be able to eat anything metal."

Jax ran out of the tavern with a bounty, at last! he ran for the woods. Some odd metal beast. Jax saw this as an easy task, sadly he was supriced. He aproached the mine and heard that weird noice. Metal twisting. Jax climped a tree and watched the mine opening. The sun shined bright and Jax was watching for reflexes in the mine opening. Nothing. He climped down the tree, to have a closer look.

He walked silent closer to the mine. Just like back in elven kingdom when he was hunting, no noices. He stared into the darkness of the mine, a chill ran down his neck. He was used to the freedom of the woods. He saw giant footsteps on the ground, it had been out of the mine. he went into the darkness, it was a huge mine. He wasn't sure how long he would be able to walk without a torch.

As the last sunlight faded, he lit a torch and walked longer into the mine. Silent. His breath was getting worse, it was tough to breath in here. A huge blast destroyed the silence and a reddish rust looking monster came at him! Jax felt fear for first time, maybe it was just the chok. the beast roared and he fired an arrow at it, it did hit but easily fell to the ground. Jax thought to himself, this only eats metal right? Jax dogded the first charge and he was reliefed, the rust beast ran into the wall of the mine. Jax gasped as he heard the mine rumbling and he found himself being trapped by stones! The roars and rumbling disappeared and turned to silence.
