Poll Question:
will we see NEW CREATURES?

ok guys, new information has been attained about stronghold confirming nomads as one of the Level 2 creatures.

now im asking you: "what will the other L2 creature be???"

now consider the possibilities:

The most popular idea: Trolls... although they have 3 times as much hitpoints as another Level 2 creature... most of the popular sites think it will be trolls.  Also, 3DO would be breaking their PROMISE that each level in a castle would have different types of creatures. (meaning that if L1 Creature A in a castle is a walker, then L1 Creature B cannot be a walker, and must be either a shooter, flyer or spellcaster)

Other possibilities:
Out of the neutrals not confirmed as being neutral: only 3 can possibly be in the stronghold at L2.

these are:

Harpies: they are one of the 2 only remaining flyers left in the unconfirmed ranks.

Gargoyles: The other flyer referred to above.

Beholders: the only remaining shooter left in the unconfirmed ranks.

the final possibility:
A brand new creature, or one from past heroes series is introduced.  Considering that none of the neutral creature possibilities really fit in with the stronghold theme, this theory looks very attractive.

Responses:
Trolls
Gargoyles
Harpies
Beholders
NEW CREATURE

NWC and 3DO never actually promised that this would be the golden rule...there can easily be exceptions. Besides, if they have one walker and one special, isn't everyone just going to choose the special? Maybe its time to write to JVC again...

No, I've actually promised myself that I'll hold off on that so that all energy at NWC and 3DO can be focused on Heroes IV.

who would choose the walker?

you have a good point there Xeno... but maybe it's the special of the walker unit the reason to choose it...

...anyway, the most propable level 2 creature is the harpy...

By my count, we've seen all but 5 creatures (61 of 66). 2 of them are confirmed as existing in the Preserve (Faerie Dragon and Griffon). That leaves only 3 chances for something new.

This means, by the way, that our old friends the Elementals don't seem to exist in Axeoth, at least not as we've all known them. Unless, of course, what we've been calling a gargoyle was actually an old Imp prototype (Remember, an early screenshot showed a T-rex type creature that was probably the first version of the Dragon Golem). That would fill out the list with the 4 elementals.

::grins:: for Wyvern's sake, I hope the mystery level 2 in the Stronghold is a flying reptile with a poisonous sting.

However, as far as the Harpy fitting in the rough and tough Stronghold lineup, it makes as much sense to me as moving the Dwarves to the Academy and the Orcs to the Asylum.

The creature that is perfect for the role (being a flyer and asociated with the barbarians in hmm3) is the ROC.

My opinion is wait for the game.We can't know all about the game then it won't be as fun.Plus gargoyles & beholders don't fit into stronghold.period.

In response to the question who would pick a walker in a choice between a flyer and a walker, the choice is simple....somebody who would prefer strength over speed. To give an example, compare ogre magi and crusaders to silver pegasi in H3. The pegasi fly and are alot faster, but the ogres magi and crusaders are much more powerful. I would take one of them over the pegasi in most cases.

Actually, as me and preserver have been trying to tell you guys, they DID say this quite clearly.

Im pretty sure we'll see a new creature, but if i was forced to choose between the remaining neutrals, id pick harpy.

oh yeah...

to vlad's comment;

Thunderbirds are already in stronghold, and although they arent quite the same as rocs, they are very similar... so similar that in H3 the thunderbird was the roc's upgrade.

considering that they are very similar creatures, i seriously doubt that we will see the roc in the stronghold.

Um, actually no they didn't. I have told you this many times, and so have other people. And Preserver has recently admited that they did not say this as well.

If you have any proof to back up your statement please give it. But otherwise we must all assume they have never said this.

Why wouldn't they follow it? It wouldn't make any sense as most of the other towns will follow this.. and why would they say it if it wasn't always fact? My best guess is that the harpy will be the new lvl. 2 creature, since we saw in a screenshot a tile for a monster (map editor pic) that said HARPY. I forget who mentioned this, but it was true. At any rate, harpy fits in with the Barbarians well.

I also think the new thunderbird looks like a Pokemon.

Don't mean to brag, but I think I mentioned the Harpy tile in an old thread, my Asylum Thread or something(Perhaps the Heroes Movie one or the Asylum against Academy one).

I'm still hazy about the walker/special rule(I'm impossible, aren't I?)

"where did preserver "recently admit" this??? "

In another of your threads that claims for now reason that 3DO promised something they did not. That thread was the "Preserve has Issues" thread. He admitted he should not have claimed it was official when it wasn't shortly after he said it was official. He was actually refering to the unofficial FAQ.

Considering this was your own thread, and it happened almost immediately after Preserver said it was official I'm surprised you don't know this. What did you stop reading your own thread right before that?

ok, so he said it isnt official... notice how i care...

you made it sound like he said he was wrong about how they will still stick to it.... which is not the case.
try making sure your wording is clear next time chief

in other words:
he still believes that they will do it that way, even if he admits that its not official.

and anyways, if you have any brains at all you would know that they are doing it that way.

i mean, why would they follow the rule perfectly with EVERY SINGLE LEVEL IN THE GAME and then for stronghold L2 break the rule... thats completely illogical.

therefore, even if it isnt official, it matters not because they are going to follow the rule anyways and we all know it.

and to xenophanes... think of it this way.
for each level in a castle.. if a creature for a particular level is an orange, then the other creature of the same level in that same castle has to be either an apple or a pear; it cant be another orange.

The nearest official we come to the rule is in one of the gamespot interviews. Jeff says that for each level, you are able to choose between something "different", and is talking about the shooting titan and the strong, walking dragon golem as an example og the difference. So a part of the rule is kind of officially confirmed, but I was wrong when I thought the rule I read in the CHU FAQ was official. So I thank Niteshade for correcting me...
About the Stronghold, I think we are going to see a new creature on the level 2.

1: Berserk (walker)
1: Centaur  (shooter)
2: Nomad (walker)
2:
3: Ogre Mage (spellcaster)
3: Thunderbird (flyer)
4: Cyclop (shooter)
4: Behemoth (walker)

I believe the troll is now level 3 neutral. The new creature could very well be a flyer, cause the thunderbird is the only one so far, and a flyer would be very different from a nomad. I think they won't put a shooter in here, because then the choices will be almost similar to the Academy army, and the might town should have a balance between shooters and flyers.

I've got a bad feeling about this ....

OK ..let's break the neutrals/unknowns down into a few guesswork categories:
Necropolis associated: Skeleton, Mummy
Water associated: Sea Monster, Pirate, Mermaid
Preserve associated: Satyr, Waspwort, Mantis, Leprechaun
Who gives a rat's caboose: Peasant
Unknown/truely neutral: Harpy, Gargoyle, Beholder, Troll, Troglodyte, Ice Demon (aka Iceman, Ice Elemental)
Unseen/not mentioned yet: 3 creatures

Here's where the bad feeling comes in. What if that Ice Demon is indeed an Ice Elemental? Wouldn't it then follow that the missing three are the Storm, Energy, and Magma elementals? This would solve the mystery of the absent elementals, and would follow the H4 logic of only using the upgrades.

IF this guess is right, then that means no new creature for the stronghold, and pretty much narrows the choice of the missing level 2 down to the Beholder and the Harpy. (Troll is apparently too strong, trogs and gargoyles traditionally too weak). In the absence of further real data, I'd just flip a coin here.

hmmm...

interesting... and not all that unlikely either...

so now, it looks like preserver, you agree with me on all the castles and also about the missing stronghold creature being a new one and not harpy... thats good that we dont disagree anymore

and also... QUOTE: "Unless, of course, what we've been calling a gargoyle was actually an old Imp prototype "

i dont see how on earth that gargoyle pic was an imp prototype... it looked NOTHING like the h3 imp or the h4 imp that we have now... it was all black, and looked EXTREMELY similar to every gargoyle picture ive ever seen...

i could be wrong... but i seeeriously doubt it.

Blue Camel,

Nobody is disagreeing with you that this is most likely the way things will work. But you keep saying over and over how 3D0 promised it would always be walker/flyer/shooter/spellcaster in the options, and how they would breaking their promise if that wasn't so. And that's just wrong. It's ok to say that this is probably the case, your right it is. But everyone has been trying to tell you not to say they promised something when they didn't.

Preserver,

Yeah they did say it would be something different but there are alot of ways for something to be different. Two walkers with very different stats and special abilities can be quite different for example. Compare the magic elemental with the dread knight for a good example.
