To answer your question, H5/HoF campaigns won't be released before January 2008 (and that's "not before", which means it can be later).

Do you plan on waiting with the release for the whole pack being ready or is there a chance you might release campaigns on by one?

To answer all of the guys that think it's virus - nope,although I'd like it was one I have many games on my computer,INCLUDING HoF and TotE and all them work perfect, my antivirus is up-to-date AVG. Why would TotE work and regular H5 don't?
Sigh... Guess I'll start playing the old one and pray it's last to end of the campaign...

Asheron, if you check the Modders Workshop Phonebook, you'll find a mod which unlocks all campaigns.  You can use that to skip the first five you've already finished and get to the last mission quicker.

One possible culprit is a HDD malfunction, it is possible that you have a bad sector somewhere and by chance some crucial HommV file has been written on it, checking the disk/defragmenting/reinstalling are steps to start from. Or simply some data corruption resulting from e.g. power failure which reinstall will fix. If it is an incompatibility between your PC and HommV Hof at least should be affected, as with 1.6 HommV patch the vanilla game includes more compatibility fixes than HoF 2.1.

I concur with the previous poster. I would start by checking your harddisk and making sure it doesn't have errors. Once again, a defragmentation of your HD might not be a bad idea.

I recall from personal experience that my computer was locking up several years ago when I tried to install Age of Mythology. Turned out my harddisk was rather fragmented, so I defragmented it. After that, I could install it flawless.

Sfidanza, what will happen when (if) Ubival releases a patch for ToE?

Cepheus replied already, but I just wanted to add two comments:
- when finding several versions of a file (like in data.pak, a patch, a mod...), the game uses the one with the latest modified date. So if a patch doesn't contain files used by the mod, it won't change anything. If it does, you just have to change the dates inside the mod and it will work again (I'll give more details when/if needed).

- about the repackaged scenarios: if any mod (H5/HoF included) updates a scenario, by fixing a bug or improving anything, I'll update the corresponding .h5m, so that everyone can have the latest fixes in the package on AoH.

Regarding Borsook's question:

First of all, I have to make sure Ubisoft is ok with the release of any campaign (which they created). That basically implies the january 2008 lower estimate. Once we have clearance, if we don't have everything ready and fully tested yet, yes it could be a good idea to speed up the release.

If I may make a small suggestion - if Ubisoft is against this, you could propose distributing the mod in such a way that it will install only if original HOMMV are installed.

It's only a matter of good timing, not of being against it. And there is work to do anyway, so I doubt it will delay much any release. But your idea of progressive release is a good one, in this respect as well, should we really have something ready a little earlier.

Having an installer check for H5 is not so realistic, as it would be a simple matter to just access the mod inside it. It would be an unnecessary hassle for a few weeks delay at most (I suspect). And it would go against my belief that games (and music...) should be released without DRM and copy protection, because they do not respect the customer/user.
(copy protection which ToE and H5 1.6 are completely free of btw!)

Sfidanza, I just noticed that the "Iron Throne" map still miss the initial cutscene...I had not the time to test the rest of the map, but I think that something is wrong... just to let you know

Indeed! Starting in HoF, a dialog scene can be defined in the map xdb file itself (and launched through StartAdvMapDialog() in the script), and I forgot those sounds...
It is now fixed (in the HoF single player scenarios package - with dialog scenes). There were 3 missing dialogs:
- "Iron Throne" intro
- "The Union" outro
- "New Enemies" outro

Thanks for noticing.

- As Maurice said, .h5c packaging only allows individual campaigns (with carryover inside it between scenarios), not campaign sets: so no carryover between campaigns. But should that change, I'll try again of course.

While looking through the game files, I noticed the "Campaigns" directory. It contains a few files regarding the individual campaigns, most notably the starting bonus selection, and a folder "CampaignsSets" below it. That folder contains a single file, pointing to each of the campaigns in question and grouping them together as a set. Furthermore, the main "Campaigns" folder contains files referenced in that single file and each - except the first - contains a line like this:

<DependentCampaigns>
<Item href="A2C0.(Campaign).xdb#xpointer(/Campaign)"/>
</DependentCampaigns>

Which seems to make a campaign dependent on a previous campaign.

Now I haven't played with making a UserCampaign yet, but I would bet my socks on it that something should be doable with these files to wrap the UserCampaigns into a campaign set, with dependencies. This should furthermore enable Hero-carryover between scenario's, I think.

That's exactly the spirit indeed, Maurice. I should have been more explicit (thanks for explaining the file structure):
when I said that campaign chaining didn't work, I meant that this  <DependentCampaigns> tag is ignored on a User Campaign. The CampaignSet file is ignored as well. When you load a campaign, it only loads one campaign at a time, even when you packed multiple campaigns with the CampaignSet file.

Actually, the only CampaignSet file taken into account by the game so far is the original one: CampaignsSets/Standart.xdb
which means that the only way to have chained campaigns is to replace the main campaigns.

Maybe there's a way to pack another CampaignsSet file somewhere, so that the game loads it, but so far it doesn't seem to be possible.

What about packing all the H5 and Hof campaigns into one HUGE-arsed campaign?? will that be possible?

However, in this case, will us be able to choose which scenario play??

Hmm, ok. Where should I send my socks then?

Just kidding. Seems like a bummer to me. It should not be too hard to do, so I hope Nival will make it available sometime soon in a patch.

Isn't there a limit of scenarios in a campaign? Also is it really such a problem? Those who want can play the campaigns in order, not being forced to does not deny that possibility

The main problem is how heroes carry over between campaigns. Within a given campaign it's no problem, but if the Hero that you've built in campaign 1 has to make a re-appearance in campaign 6, then you have a problem.

Nival desigining ToTe somehow did not think that a problem. In the worst scenario you could just "premade" them, (like the HoF ones in ToTe) and modify the map adding memory mentor.

I don't think "merging" H5 and HoF campaigns is a good idea (with "merging" meaning chaining the 3 HoF campaigns as 7-8-9 after H5 campaigns). I think I said that already, but my reason is that after C6, your heroes are really high level, while A1C1 is meant for level 1 heroes. (edit: see next posts)
Of course, once the package is released, anyone will be able to make such a chaining for himself (it's not that difficult, Maurice basically just explained it).

However, I'll package the two campaign sets in one, so that you have all the campaigns available from the same screen. The two campaign sets will still be independent, as can be seen in the screenshot (both "The Queen" and "Freyda's Dilemma" can be started).
