Opposite Alignments: Part 7.

Which skill would you rather have: Artillery or Ballistics?

Ballistics if I'm using a hero that will be attacking castles with a highly melee army.

Artillery if I'll be defending castles.

For anyone else... also artillery.

Ballistics...

Reduces the number of turns it takes you to conquer a town, and therefor reduces the number of elves lost...

I used to ALWAYS avoid ballistics ... until I would attack a castle ... and BOY did I learn my lesson on that game!

lately I have won and lost MANY castle seiges all from having or not having ballistics (catapult).

It's one of the less useful skills, but it will make a BIG difference when taking a fortified castle!

so here's my choice:
- Assuming that my hero has or will buy a ballista, if I know he'll reach an attack of 10 or more, artillery.
- if he's a barbarian, artillery.
- if low attack, ballistics.
- if I plan on sieging a castle in the near future, definitely ballistics.
- if I have cyclops kings, who needs ballistics?

just an idea... when sieging a castle as stronghold, bring 6 sets of 2 cyclops kings, and your group of ancient behemoths ... and by the first turn, the whole castle will be taken down by your cyclops kings ... all for your AB's to invade.

note: cyclopses may function as a catapult with basic ballistics, cyclops kings may function as a catapult with expert ballistics.

good thought...

...although artilery can be quite usefulll too... a double balista hit is often welcomed... anyway, if my hero is set for a siege, balistics is a must, if not, artilery is ok with me...

Ballistics, speccialy when attacing a castle, which has an expert artillery with him (as fast you crush those towers, the less alves you'll loose).

Balistics

In most games you HAVE to conquer enemy castles so balistics are wonderfull there.

then ballistics on your "main" or "town conquering" heroes, but hte ones that sit in castles and defend and collect stuff should have artillery instead of ballistics.

Artillery is a must to a town defender, it really is very usefull but only if you have the lastest versions of hmm3.

true. before the latest patches, artillery did nothing for town defense, since you aren't even allowed to use your ballista then.

Both are not top choices for me. If I got to take one, I pick ballista.

Since most of the time I'm attacking enemy castles instead of being attacked.

Before the patch (don't know what version), if you aim at the main arrow tower, you will ALWAYS hit the lower arrow tower. But it got fixed. Then in the latest patch, you can control arrow tower if you have artillery skill. But I will still pick ballista.

Artillery, artillery and artillery.
Why? 'cause you don't need ballistics when you got earthquake. If u don't get EQ, then it's Ballistics.

To Rusty

Yeah, but wouldn't u implode somebody or give a mass spell or ressurest yur troops, rather than waste your spell on Earthquake?

with advanced or expert ballistics, you can almost always (95%) take down the drawbridge first round.

With expert earthquake, it'll probably take 3-5 turns until you take down the drawbridge ... and that's quite a bit of mana too.

Well, how do u get quake early in the game then?
And besides in the beggining, when u got few troops, it's not really indicaded to siege a castle unless u got balistics.

I would choose Artillery because I feel the Ballista as a good additional fighter... And why not? Some people prefer a strong Ballista, others - a strong Catapult... But the Artillery fits more with my (bad) style of playing...
