Even if i love Academy and all that it means...I cant say it is the greatest power in heroes 5. My vote goes to Dungeon  Dungeon can hack and slash their way to fortune lol

currently my favorite is dungeon, but I still don't know necropolis.
the most powerful seems to be the sylve.

imho, I think three factions win for various aspects of the game. During early game, Inferno w/ Alastor wins it for me, a hero starting with Confusion with direct line to many other Dark Spells.
In Midgame, the strongest faction I think is Vinrael with Sylvan because his enlightenment bonuses and his own give him a direct line to come across the abilities and the Ulti fast. Sylvan also has a great midgame.
In Endgame, I think that Jhora in Academy takes the gauntlet beacause her spells come raining down. She can buff, debuff, and destroy faster than any other in the game, and Academies endgame finishes are amazing. It takes that long to get all the units.

Vinrael can get Mentoring with ease which means that he can train other Rangers so that they get Battle Commander: hundreds of extra Battle Dancers.

I agree with you that having no possibility to cleanse / dispell any spell is quite a handicap, but do not forget that i wouldn't go that far to say that inferno wins orcs just because of dark magic. First of all, we all know how big of a factor luck is in H5 games (i'm not talking about the "luck" skill  ). Getting to an artifact faster than your opponent, or just beeing lucky enough to have the most important artifact on your part of map guarded by neutrals is often crucial. Then, of course, your opponent has to be lucky enough to get frenzy in his castle and so on. Many many many times it happened to me to not have the most important spell that i need even in THREE castles!!! What are the odds? But that is the part of the game. I was reffering to the orcs as one of the very strong factions. I wasn't commenting any particular matchup or vulnerability to a spell that makes ALL factions (except necro) tremble cuz it is usually beeing cast upon a unit that is about to take turn b4 hero. Still, with good artifacts and as buffed magic resistance as possible and shatter dark with perks, i think orcs can pull a victory and are not to be underestimated vs dark magic users.

Awesome idea! But does this practically work? You would need a large map (high level of hero with mentoring) and much "player luck" to get battle comander for the rest of your heroes.

In 4th week, you can get 140 dancers with 7 heroes, which is 17500 gold, twice the normal cost of 140 dancers. Gets better in 5th week (210 dancers).
Quite fun to do, but costs more than normal dancers do, and on two or three-castled map, there are better things to do than to overpay to get more dancers.

I wouldn't agree with that doomforge. in the 10th week and you have a lot of heroes and almost out of munny you use mentoring to get battle commandert with them all and you get a lot of war dancers.

I think the most advantageous faction is dungeon: with blood furies and black dragons you have two units which are always first to attack in a battle - decimating the enemy already significantly.

You can say might over magic as many times as you whant!
But academy still beats every one of them! (In my opinion  )
Sorcery, Arcane Training, Intelegence (To make more out of Mana)
Arch Mages (Energy Channel)
Sar Issus artifacts (if you can manage to get some)
Go for Knowlegde and Spellpower (But still keep up attack and defence)
Tome of *** (great artifacts)
Destructive Magic, Master of fire or cold (To make direct spell damage more effective)
And ofcourse the arcaneforge (Usefull for high tire creatures in army)
Even if you challenge a Dungeon army with Black Dragons, you can win!
Just focus the strong units on Black Dragons, and then use you magic skills on the rest! Simple!
Dark magic, master of pain is usefull too!
You can get mass efefct on decay and get the Frenzy and puppet master spells!
They can be used on strong targets to kill the ones with magic imunity!
And slow, suffering, Vulnerability can lower the effect on enemys!

Academy is indeed one of the strongest faction. Best early game, multiple magics in late game.
