Artifacts?
Hey, I've been reading a lot of threads and interviews from 3DO, and I've found nothing about artifacts.
Anybody knows anything?

Well, the lion`s shield of courage is seen on the screenshots... Then this weird backpack in the screenshots might also be an artifact... Whatever... That`s all I know.

Oh, COME ON! Can't you people see that that is clearly the Dragon Scale armor?!
Sorry about my tirade, but I get touchy about Dragon things. I'm hoping the Power of the Dragon Father combo will be back(It probably will be, we've heard the combos will be back, and so why drop any of them, especially one of the best?). I'm also hoping that we'll be able to customize what the artifacts do in the game using the Map Editor, in Heroes4.org's interview with a NWC person, she said that their holding off on that - maybe an expansion?

Yes, I've seen the screenshots and I've noticed the shield and the breastplate, but nothing else... are they identical to those in hmm3, is there the same way of wearing them?

Probably, since the new paper doll inventory system was a real help in heroes III. That's interesting, though: will they have the same method of using artifacts? Well, I guess so, because they mention things about an unlimited backpack in interviews, and that's from the homm3 paper doll thing...

Well, I'm not sure this is a good idea but wouldn't be nice for the hero, since he joins the battle himself to lend some artifacts from his backpack to a creature under his command (if possible...) because it's such a waste of artifacts...

that would be a mess to implement...
espessially if each artifact looks different in the battlefield... not to mention that it would unbalance the game towards humanoids... if it could be done though, i like the idea...

They did say a few things about artifacts. Looks like things like swords and armor will be much less impressive now, because they will only effect your hero himself and not his troops. Also things like magic bows (perhaps like the golden bow) will only boost your heroes shooting capability and probably only if he already has archery.
Alot of items have bonused and penalties like you might find something that boosts your attack strength but reduces the duration of all your spells.
They mentioned a few other interesting sounding items which I unfortunately do not remember.

But the hero's skills affect the creatures in his command radius right? So an artifact boosting fx. the attack and defense skills will also affect the skills of these creatures. Or am I wrong?

There might be a magical banner or something that boosts his tactical abilities or gives a boost to anyone in his command radius. But a heroes' combat skills only effect him, and they said the personal weapons and armor only effect your hero himself.

Maybe I'm inspiring to much from Diablo, but the hero should be able to use any of his hands for an attack item,for instance two swords or a both-hand club or something...and the back-pack should not be a black hole swallowing tons or artifacts, but a certain number given by the size of the items.

O.K., now I'm confused. By the sound of things it seem as though the hero will be fighting as well as it's creatures, is this true? That would definatly be some what of a cool twist to the game if true. If also true, would the hero's fight one another? Man I'm confused as to how it would all work. I can't believe artifacts will have no effect on the creatures.

I don't think anyone can give detailes about how the hero would fight in the battle screen, and how his skills and artifacts and stuff would change the stats of other creatures.All I know is that he will join the battle. The rest are oficial rumours.
