My trip to Norway couldn't be timed more perfectly - just to escape the unbearable heat and when I came back the weather broke down and the skies are puring down in a nice, 20C degrees temperature.

It's common knowlegde that roads in Poland suck big time, be it country side or major cities
 
and that's because in order to save money (lol) we use cheaper asphalt, we lay it down like amateurs and have no idea how to increase it's longetivity. Aside from poor materials and qualifications there is no organisation of work. Here is a rough layout on how we do it around here:
Year 1:
when the number of holes reaches critical mass (there is more pre-WW2 german paving than asphalt) it's time to pick one of these options:
a)Fill the holes with some kind granule and smash into the ground so that it looks pretty for a week and after that it loses consistency and little rocks shoot from under the tires of passing cars at pedesterians and other cars. A month later you won't notice there was anything done there. This is notrious for a road next to my house, same thing once a year for 5 years
b)actually scrap the outer layer and place a new one. We need to get it done on time so let's ignore the heavy rain that's being pouring down for 3 days straight and start before it dries up.
Let's say that the mayor is living nearby so they decide to go with option B
Year 2
The road itself is still in fairly good shape but the water supply pipes which are under the said road are going rusty and it's time to replace them. Well, let's dig'em up!
Year 2, 3 months later
So 2 months after they finished fixing the pipes there is a problem with the gas instalation going old. We're getting paid for it so let's do it quick!
Year 3
We got a contract for replacing the underground cables, yeah, same spot as last year.
By the time year 4 comes, the part of the road which wasn't under constant reconstruction looks almost like at the beginning.
They're making a new roundabout on one of the 2 ways out of my neighbourhood and it's been over a year since they started!
Now I read an article on progress with our soon-to-be-built highways. The construction company lays down the expensive aggregate during the day and then scrapes it off and replaces with soil during the night so they can lay it down again on anothr segment during the day. Now that the police found out I hope they'll sue them so much that their grand-grand-grand-children won't be able to pay it off
