7.11 School Shooting

There has been a school shooting here in Finland today. 6 students and their school principle was shot dead by 18 years old man. When police surrounded the killer he shot himself in the face. (He is still in critical condition in hospital, most likely he will die)

This is very horrible. I don't remember when has last time something like this happened here. It's sick world where we are living. Tomorrow we rise the flag in half way cross the country as memory of the lost ones. I hope and aim sure they will take this seriously on schools and take the actions what could prevent this kinda scenarios in the future.

I hope parents and others can manage these hard times.

Rest in peace

May whatever force that governs this world condole the families of the victims. This is truly a tragedy. Not some time ago did the shooting at Virginia Tech take place. Since then, security has doubled and all sytems are quad checked. Sometimes drastic things must happen in order for people to see their faults.

On the other hand, the killer must have had some thing wrong with him. If he doesn't die in the hospital, then he will most likely waste the rest of his life to his actions. May whatever God he believes in have mercy on his soul.

This happening will not go away soon. It will hurt and it will heal. But there will be scars, but those scars serve as a memorium to those students. Yes, I agree the world is going to hell in a handbasket, but hopefully our rage and stupidity will not be the end of us.

Well, it shouldn't happen in anywhere! Never mind, i know you did not mean "**** happens". If there is something we could learn from this it's how we could prevent such things happen. The guy was clearly unstable and needed help. He had posted videos on Youtube, made blogs on Irc (myspace kinda thing) where he talked about this massager before it happen. It was planned act, he just didn't wake up one day and decide to start killing people. Someone should have noticed something and prevent it. If and Whats are too late now but i would say: No guns allowed for civilians!

5 boys, one girl, the principal and the school nurse were shot dead. The 18 year old boy shoot himself in the head and perished during last night in a hospital. There was also one person who was shot but survived. Several people had minor injuries when escaping through the windows.

This is the first school shooting in our history actually last killing that was school related happened in the 80's when a student killed his teacher with a shovel.

Boy used a olympic pistol. It seems he was a neo-nazi.

Well it finally happened in here too. Not much of a surprise after all those shootings elsewhere. But banning guns from civilians? Come on Homer. For one looney? Isn't that a bit extreme? Maybe pistols could be required to be kept at the shooting range but all guns? How do you suggest we go hunting then?

Dont want to sualt your wounds, but this attiude is mistaken.
If that kid didnt have any acess to a gun,he this would not have happen. he would find an alternative way to hurt people, but wouldnt be as painfull as he did,he wouldnt hurt that much.
Now if hunting was illigal.
civilians pistoling was banned.
yeah i kinda agree with that.
that wouldnt not had happend. i mean even ifts 1 loney, look at usa,how meny such had happend there.
also beign a neo-nazi is something wierd, that is deveoloping, even at israel, few mounths ago,we had a case of a teen age neo nazi cell working at tell-aviv. they ware sentced on severl assults and documented, and got deported eventually, fallowed by a law that deperuts neo-nazis from israel.
maybe others should do the same.
also...
the neo nazi is becoming a phenomna,i hate the see nazi's again.
With all recent developments, israel, finland, and the age..im thinking there is some major cell working in the world, seducing teenagers to theese acts of violence...heads up.

I understand hunting and more than 99% of gun owners use them properly. Having a gun is not the problem, but how easy it is for the "looney" to get the gun is. Gun license is good thing. More strict rules for getting a gun (passing psychology test etc) would be in order. And this guy had a handgun. I doubt it was using it for hunting, there should be gun in shooting ranges for that kinda things and not home.

Yes, neo-nazism in Israel is one of the weirdest things that could occur... But the freaks are everywhere, like plague.

Anyway, I think what needs to be done is to put a very clear sign in the halls of every school in the world.
"PLEASE START SHOOTING AT PEOPLE".

They'll never do it if you tell them to do it.

well that because people need to express their feelings. if their anger is supressed it will continue to accumulate and well there is a bigger result. the longer you shake a can of soda the more fizz, metaphorically speaking what these kind of kids need is help and a humane way to vent anger. This way no bottled up feelings and grudges will vent in an explosive fury. (Drawing swastikas on the couch just means the person who did it is racist and doesn't like his school.(trust me i used to go to a jewish shcool too))

@homer it is true things like this should not happen but it is a twisted side of morality. Many people must have known about this upcoming event and few must have seen it as a joke. It is a tragedy that goes down to deep roots in human emotion, one of anger. As why people could've done something? I have no idea.

I had told something about this phenomenon before a few months in the tread about Virginia-tech.This is a phenomenon and that's a fact. It's not something that caused "by accident".Yesterday was USA today is Europe tomorrow an eastern country. It's all about the development the technology with their more and more fastened rhythms. As a result human brain can't stand it so we have over increased mental health problems. We can't stand it anymore, slow down a bit. It's a matter of time the next hit in a school or in a university from the next "out of his mind" student.

And this recent hit is the answer to all of u Americans and not that want to believe that the problem in all of the hits in schools and universities in USA is the easy way u can find a gun and there are not strict laws about them.As i know in Finland u can't have a gun that easy.

Everyone thinks its really easy to get a gun anywhere else then were you live.America is usually the main target for people.

Its true though. People are suffering from too much stress these days.  School has to be easier and more lenient and parents have to put less emphasis on good grades. Otherwise your not going to stop getting these things. Stress is far too easy to build up in school as lets just assume you missed one lesson. And that lesson had the most important subject in the term. Noone is willing to help you relearn it and you cant understand it when you review it. And you fail some test.
And then it just goes downhill.

I'm sure every student would love that but would it change anything? No. It's possible that school is stressful but i think education should focus more on individuals needs. Not all can run the same speed, it should be more centered on your own strengths. Why i need to struggle whit languages and why must i wait for others to catch me in maths? Later you can take the "long math" but this should be possible in younger years as well.

What comes down to parents, they are not all so demanding. I remember early school years where i had to show my homeworks every time. That's good i suppose but i hated it. I was about 14 when my parents stop saying "Do you homework" that felt good be threated like an adult. I don't know is there much else to parents to do than rewarding from the good grades.

Many teenagers are depressed but thats part of their growing up and finding own personality. I remember being depressed when my girlfriend break up whit me but haven't we all. Being stressed is not my thing but i have once felt like that. It was when i quit school actually. I started in another school year after and again i dropped my studies. I was 17 and unemployed whit out profession. Every where i went i felt insecure. I was in store wondering, what would everyone thing "shouldn't he be in school?". Worst thing was to face the society. My relatives said "You can't live like that. You are about to become a bum". That felt awful, "whole world is against me". That was 6 years ago. Lot's have changed and today i can walk head high and say "the world is yours".

Before i started going on about my self i tough about stress and how it can screw up your head and your behavior whit it. Still in these cases where somebody goes "berserk" it's mental illness. Somewhere he lost his humanity, his morale and become "bum" a worthless human being.
