Best spell in battles with HUGE forces

I mean HUGE battles - legions of creatures and that... Well, I`ve experienced, that berserker is very useful:
let`s say 23ooo genies attack 7ooo titans and then the titans retaliate....

By the way, I had this situation in a map "The lord of war". So sometimes huge battles take place realy...

Edit: revived!@

Yes, that is a very good one in those situations.

Blind often comes in handy as well.

If it`s so long game, you should propably forget all damage spells. Aside from Berserk and Blind, Mass spells can help you too awfully lot. Like Bless, Prayer, Haste, Slow, Curse, Shield (just to name the best ) and alike. Clone and Counterstrike can be really nasty too with right creatures (Mighty Gorgons and Arch Angels).

yep. damage spells become somewhat irrelevant after the armies get really big, and it becomes far more important to enhance the abilities of your creatures and/or hinder the effectiveness of your opponents creatures.

Bless is a particular favorite of mine - double the average damage of a lot of creatures on expert level. When you can get +1.5 damage per Gremlin with several thousand, it's a better deal than Implosion.

I played the map "The empire of the World II" yesterday and it had really big battles in it. In an event in "The barbarian land" I met a force of 5303 behemoths and 1546 A-behemoths. I had armaggeddons blade and 78 spell power. It only killed about 300 behemoths. Then I casted clone on my archangels and attacked. It killed over 1000 behemoths. For roughly the same amount of spellpoints.

And the most useful spell when encountering wandering huge stacks of monsters is...slow. The 4000 Chaos hydras will never reach you before it is too late, if you have enough shooters that is. I had about 1500 Zealots, 1300 grand elves and 900 cyklop kings. And with 86 in attack they do a lot of damage.

I consider it a long game if I see over 100 of a level 7 creature in a battle...

Guys, this was a custom made game, meant to be long and tough. The monsters start out as zounds and sometimes legions.

Ahhh...

You don't start out with a normal castle with that many troops facing you right? You have an extra large army to begin with right? I couldn't concive of clicking End Turn enough times to get even 100 level 7's let alone 1000's of them. That would be a word in staying sane, not playing a tough game to me.

Rogue had the best and most clear explanation of spells in battles with large #'s of units. Even when you have only around 30-40 level 7's it already reaches diminishing returns most of the time to cast direct damage spells rather than a simple clone or counterstrike- unless you have unbelievable spell power, but I think the highest power you can reach is 99, so you still reach a point where spell power is almost insignifigant.

useful mass spells:

- dispel / cure (you can be @$$ed without them)
- counterstrike
- prayer
- bless / curse
- slow / haste (obviously)
- air shield

useful spells depending on situation:
- force field (to protect titans)
- sorrow (can REALLY annoy your opponent with morale freezes)
- disrupting ray

spells that are NEVER worth casting:
- misfortune (curse is 1/3 of the spell points and better)
- fortune (bless is 1/2 of the spell points and better)
- land mine
- quicksand (only useful when opponent is Terek, and you NEED to stop him SOMEHOW)
- remove obstacle (haste is better ... MUCH better)
- precision (bless is better)

I'm probably missing a few here and there

You start out with 1 champion. But you gain about six castles, timed events with increased creature growth, you can get your hands on the statue of legion, there are several creature dwellings and the grail is also available.

I recommend everybody to play the map "The empire of the world I,II. they are both good map with unique design and playability, altough I think that II is better.

The map can be found here:

When it gets complicated, go basic

slow, haste and blind and most of all counterstrike and berserk can work wonders in the battle. Mass cure too, if they cast negative spells on you. Damage spells can be insignificant for such a complicated battle. Unless, you course, you have 100 spell power and Implosion and use the spell bug.

it is true what that guy writes there about the final abttle being no challenge...is the same on lord of war, tossing is big about the legion archangels that will await you there...but what are archs compared to ancients, when it comes to stats of 99/99 ?

Battlefest

If you play battlefest maps you gonna see what "huge army" is. an army formed ie.: 150 AA 170 AD 200 AB 220 GD 200 BD
is what I call HUGE

and you opp. has a similar army.

In the battle of such a armies clone, berserker, slow, haste are the killer spells. and in such battles, damage spells such as implo and meteor is of no use.

what good is a 3k damage implo against 150 archangels?

but, if you clone those 150 archies you have an undead archangel army - since clones can res too (of course timing is deadly.

Or imagine 200 berserked AB's. God, that is a nightmare.

Prayer also helps a lot too, since it enhances the speed too.

umm..  I think that is all from me.
