RPG recommendations

Hello everyone. I've decided to take up RPG games recently, but I can't decide which one to buy. I'd like you to write reviews, descriptions or personal opinions about an RPG, not only for me, but for everyone who likes them.

Thanks in advance...

What kind of an RPG? Single player RPG that you enjoy playing for some time, finish and move on, a casual MMORPG that you can play when you feel like it, but which doesn't require constant commitment, or a MMORPG that does its best at forcing you to play 24/7?

'Course I don't know if some of these are still available...
Fate, Fable  Haven't played them in a while and confuse which is which
but both were fun

Titan Quest (repetative hack-n-slash)

Dungeon Siege  watch your donkey's ars

And there are prolly a dozen more.  Look in bargain bins for some that may run about $10 if you don't want to spring for the $40-50 on a new title.  I always get the book, if available, for the extra money (~$20) 'cause it usually comes in handy.

Or try to borrow a game from a friend to try it out and if you like it, buy it.

Happy RPGing

Fallout and Fallout 2. Definitely.

Also, I hear Planescape: Torment is excellent.

Woock: . I can just applaud your recommendation (although never played fallout 1).
Also Baldurs Gate 2 (+ Throne of Bhaal) should be nice (1 too if you don't mind the graphics ), if you like it you may also try Icewind Dale 2 and Neverwinter Nights 2.

If you're looking for a good single player RPG, I highly highly recomend Tales of Symphonia. Its for the Gamecube, but I also think it was released on the PS2, although that version wasnt quite as popular. Anyways, if your playing through it for your first time, it should take you around 50 hours to play through, that is, if you're not some crazy super RPG player that can beat it in about 20 on your first try .

Mass Effect November 22nd!!!

obvious answer for me would be Oblivion...

for about a week until Mass Effect comes out... then nothing but Mass Effect for a very long time.

Also, if you haven't played Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 or Jade Empire[all original Xbox titles]I recommend these, because they are all amazing.

Fall Out, Planetscape and Baldur's gate series if you don't mind playing games that are seriously outdated.

Though I'd still recommend Baldur's Gate 2 as your benchmark RPG. Still is a great game.

But if you're just getting into RPGs then there's no reason to dawdle in like 10 years ago.

Go for Oblivion for the modern state-of-the-art RPG, it's on 360 PS3 and PC, and Fable 2 is coming out (is out?).

Dungeon Siege is boring

Oblivion is good. Incredible graphics, good story but the AI and characters arent all too good. The fights gets quite boring after some time since nothing new ever seem to happen... I think the game of the year edition of oblivion is out now with all the add-ons and the shivering isles expansion. Be careful with system requirements though, as these are very high.

A game that, imo seems to own oblivion on all fronts except maybe freedom and graphics is the witcher. Iīve been playing it for soem time now and i can easily say this is the best RPG iīve played in years. I will explain a few things about the game now.
The story: The main character is Geralt, a witcher. Witchers are genetically enhanced humans who are trained from their birth to become professional monster killers. The story begins with a party of witchers finding Geralt unconsious. When Geralt awakens he canīt remember a thing what happened in his past, allthough his fellow witchers tell him that he was a famous witcher known by the nickname "white wolf". Suddenly the Witcher fort, Kaer Morhen, is attacked by unknown bandits.

Combat: The game is far from your classic RPG where you simply click on a target and watch the show. As a witcher, Geralt carries two swords, a Steel sword for humans and animals, and a silver sword for monsters. The battles may feel a bit "hack and slashy" at start but later on when you acquire additional sword and magic skills the battles get more and more tactical. During a battle you simply click on an opponent to start attacking him, while Geralt is attacking the cursor will change to a flaming sword, click again and Geralt will continue his combo, as combos get longer the amount of time that the flaming sword is showing decreases and combos gets harder to execute. Of course you can also use magical powers to beat your opponents.

Other things: The game is 18+ but so are many games these days, all a game needs is a little blood and death. In the witcher however, the game is intended to be for more "mature" players. First of all the game is very violent, did anyone lose interest? didīnt think so... Second, the game offers a quite large sexual content, where Geralt can nearly go to bed with almost every woman in the game. Such acts are strangely "rewarded" with an erotic card resembling the woman in question. Im quite sure that some people, or rather guys may buy this game just for the sexual content. For you, i have but one thing to say: there is porn which cost less than this game, ok? Anyway, the world has been made as realistic as possible and includes both harsh language, racism and so on, so its just natural that there is sexual content since its part of the natural world.

System requirements: The requirements mentioned on the back of games are often misleading and lowered to increase the chance of people buying it. Strangely, the recommended requirements seems higher than what the game really needs! My computer has 3 Ghz, 2 Gb ram and a 256 Mb graphics card and the game runs smooth as silk.

Thats my review of the witcher!

Set the difficulty level to max from the very start and never lower it. The fights are guaranteed to never get boring after that, starting from the very first quest where you need to kill 2 rats

It has some qualities
-Expensive
-Time consuming
-Poor graphics
-Poor gameplay (consists of clicking one of 100s of squares on your screen repeatedly)
-Hideously outdated

And is addictive.
Other than that it's fine.

IMO, I would stay away from WoW if I were you. First you have to buy it, then you have to pay each month for it..I much prefer any other game that has online capability, but doesnt cost you anything.
Maybe this is just me, but I dont like the gameplay style at all. It's like TA said, you've got to be constantly clicking on tiny little squares all of the time. If your not playing pvp, it gets boring because you're only fighting npc's, but if you do play pvp, then people come along and kill you. I know this because one of my friends was addicted to WoW for quite some time, he's been off it for almost a year now. Yes I know, I'm making it sound like a drug..but it almost is.
Final words: do NOT get into WoW.
