The Advantages of Stupidity

Alright, here’s my excuse to all of you QP hungry people out there, as to why I didn’t go around and award red stars to everyone, like mad…whether you believe it’s a viable excuse or not I don’t care. It took me a long time to do, so there...

***

The Advantages of Stupidity

Society portrays stupidity as the worst conceivable situation any human could be
in. Stupidity leads people nowhere and causes obstacles in their life. Contrary to common belief, moronic behavior can engender a number of advantages. Most people say being stupid will lead nowhere. They claim it is the worst possible condition to be in. However, perhaps if people took the time to look closer, they would realize how idiocy can at times, hold the upper hand to intelligence. Admittedly, stupidity has some disadvantages. Life isn’t perfect. Being stupid can annoy even the most sensitive people. If someone acts stupid, and does it in the crowd, it will seem more immature than funny. If one is forced to act stupid while dealing with those of lower intelligence, one may receive in response, cruelty and insensitivity, because of ignorance. Although this is true, there are still many advantages to stupidity. The stupid person possibly offends and even annoys those around them by what they say or how they act. Acting snobbish not only offends a particular crowd, but all. Someone who believes they know all usually attempt to take over all conversation. For some people, listening to the senseless talk of an idiot can be comical. Likewise, for all people, listening to them talk boosts one’s self-esteem. Those watching the stupid people can accredit themselves to be smarter than them.

Another advantage of stupidity is that stupid people are always remembered, even after graduation day. It has been noticed how a quiet person is often hard to detect, and might remain generally anonymous. The mind has a hard time keeping quiet people in its memory track, because there is little to record. However, it is much easier and pleasing to remember someone really stupid. Some stupid people are very quiet though. They remain anonymous for the reason that they simply want to look intelligent. Although you may never hear the stupidity directly from the person, a friend of a friend may know, and eventually everyone will too. The evidence here proves how stupid people last longer in someone's thoughts.

To oppose the notion that stupidity has it’s advantages, one may say, “A fool will never amount to any position of credibility.” Low marks appear on a typical daft person’s report cards because of their stupidity and lack of seriousness. Successful people are expected to go to college. However, with such low grades, few colleges would accept such a student. Lacking the proper education from a college, less job opportunities to well provide for a family, would exist. Some people just are not destined to go to college, whatever the reason. Instead of trying to further their education, they might immediately step into the line of work. Not everyone necessarily has to be good at school to be successful. There are still other opportunities. These dense people could possess a different skill in which they excel. Because a person might be an idiot, that does not mean they are useless or incapable. Someone may live without even general knowledge of what is taught in school. However, can become a farmer and succeed from his farming skills, or perhaps on a higher level, someone that may happen to be a good speaker, could become an actor, without even knowing how to read, if he works hard enough. Whatever it may be, stupid people just need to find what they’re good at and possibly prosper with it.

It’s obvious a stupid person is seldom asked to do much and on the occasion in
which they do exert any kind of energy for a purpose, little is expected. Once people
know that one is dense, they try to steer away from placing any responsibilities on them. The stupidity, which they possess, makes a name for themselves- a name, which can be very difficult to shake. Yet, this could create a positive situation for the stupid person. They will have a lot of free time on their hands for some of life’s truly meaningful pleasures. Some of these activities include combing facial hair, and counting the pixels on a computer monitor. It is true that stupid people have low expectations. They are so stupid that they might not realize the truly grand from simply mediocre. They could have a cell-phone, but may opt to choose instead, a built-in alarm clock telephone, because it came free, with their car-seat cushions. Extremely low expectations tend to be one of the many reasons people don’t give them much work. For example, if a stupid person leaves a certain task, and comes back to it later, it’s alright. Would they be fired from their job? Probably not; if only for the simple reason that no one else would understand their work except for them. The job would have to be given back to the person, perhaps with a raise attached. While a more intelligent person works to the best of their ability, until they complete the job, a stupid person usually works to his or her satisfaction, which can be shoddy. When a stupid person accomplishes something, people give him or her much praise. Not only teachers, but parents also offer such praise. For example, two sisters may live together with their parents. One acquires straight A’s, and they are proud of her for the accomplishment, but the other may receive nearly failing grades. On report card day however, the first sister receives expected A’s but this time the other has managed to get some B’s and C’s. They are both praised, but more often than not, the one who improved her grades will be focused on more. When it is reward time, the two sisters can receive the same amount of money, although the first did better. That is why, when someone stupid accomplishes something unexpected, they may be applauded more than others may.

With the lack of work expected from them, a stupid person is left with plenty of
free time. Some people can only imagine the privilege of having more time for amusement and the pleasures of life. Those who work hard either in school or work don’t get much time for fun entertainment as they may want. It can be relaxing and even healthy for someone to stop constantly pushing themselves, at full blast. During this free time, they don’t have to worry about anything at all. All this free time gives one the chance to think. While sitting in a desolate room, thinking of new ideas passes the time. You presume an unintelligent human being might be incapable of doing such a thing. On the contrary, they generally come up with exceptionally fresh ideas. The reason that they can think so creatively is that they don’t do it in an organized fashion. If you look back on history, some of the most successful, creative geniuses who ever lived never did well in school. In fact, Einstein was thought to be retarded, but he proved all of them wrong. A well-educated person seems down to earth and in touch with reality, but a stupid person finds no bounds on what to think and cannot over-think anything. Have you ever sat and listened to the seemingly mindless babble of the town idiot? Some uninhibited, unrestrained conversation may ooze with creativity. Did his or her thoughts make you think? Next time you need an original idea, go see the one no one would expects to be productive and who has lots of time on their hands. You will get what you looked for along with other interesting information. Therefore, this means that the claim, "Stupid minds think alike" is not true. All stupid minds have different ideas, each idea being original.

One day everyone will realize the need for our idiots. Without them this world would lack creativity and increase in boredom. Stupidity clearly holds advantages, as long as the privileged stupid person is smart enough to use them. People need to stop looking on the surface and dig deeper to find the good in all, especially stupidity.

As a self-described fool poseur, I agree with this on a superficial sense.  Fact: I am one of the eccentrics at my work.  I regularly quote the catchphrases of bad guys in pro wrestling.  The CD player in my work area has seen Norweigian black metal followed immediately by Cranberries.  I make self-depreciating comments in humorous situations because: A. I am amused by the ability to make fun of myself; B. My co-workers feel a little better about themselves knowing someone else also has deficiencies; C. I stand out. I know I am a creative person, not a smart one. I got decent grades in high school, but anyone who can do homework gets decent grades in America. I can only credit myself with not being boring and in that I take my pride.

And this is where I disagree with your point.  Stupid people do come in different flavors, but I have never known anybody to make fun of someone because they're dumb.  Either they make fun of eccentrics like me, or they make fun of boring people.  ESPECIALLY boring people. People who make their job their home. People who don't talk at work unless they're spoken to.  I see boring people get a joke pulled on them once a month.

But then again, this is probably where the military mindset comes in.  We have a use for every body we have. We know already somebody is useful for something, even if it's only yardwork and other manual labor.  The military has a use for me, and I will be a mediocre tool for some time yet before I am cast aside for a new, unsharpened one.

Just another article replying to an article.  BTW, any chance I can post that essay on my webpage?

Wow, quite long post, RMS.
It seems I cannot fully understand what u try to say (or not to say) coz I am not smart (I am reluctant to use the word "stupid/stupidity" ). Or maybe I really don't understand.

OK, anyway, something just come up to me:-

In the office:-
If you are smart and looks smart. Good ! Now, you can take more jobs/duties, right ? Come on, John, would you help me to finish this report, please ??

If you are smart but looks stupid. Bad, your boss may not like you but you can have plenty of time to do things you want...........out of office or in the office.

If you are stupid but look smart. You may got promoted as your boss are cheated by your appearance and you got promotion you want............and heavier workload.

If you are stupid and you look stupid. Why are you still left in your office ??? Well, maybe you are a 36-24-36 secretary...............

No pun intended

Oh yeah? How about that oval office guy you got running your country? If he's not a fool then I don't know who is.

Quote:

You don't seem to know a great deal of farming. Farming nowadays takes a fair amount of agricultural education and knowledge, plus farmers these days are almost self-employed businessmen, and have to know some accounting and such. Or that's how it is in my country.

Quote:
or perhaps on a higher level, someone that may happen to be a good speaker, could become an actor, without even knowing how to read, if he works hard enough.

Acting is a position of credibility?? Give me a break! You americans!

Now, RMS, don't confuse stupidity with indolence. Just because you're smart, doesn't mean you're hard working. Maybe the smartest of all realizes the abscence of meaning in our earthly lives, and lives happily as a loafer! I'm extremely lazy, but that doesn't mean I'm stupid!

Quote:
They are so stupid that they might not realize the truly grand from simply mediocre.

Yeah, like thinking Barbra Streisand is a great singer/actress. LOL

Quote:
They could have a cell-phone, but may opt to choose instead, a built-in alarm clock telephone, because it came free, with their car-seat cushions.

This is your prime example of not differentiating between the "truly grand" and the "simply mediocre"? A cell-phone is "truly grand"? And a person is stupid for choosing a phone that he gets for free over an expensive cell-phone? You have some weird ideas in your head! j/k

Quote:
Extremely low expectations tend to be one of the many reasons people don’t give them much work. For example, if a stupid person leaves a certain task, and comes back to it later, it’s alright.

Please elaborate on this. It doesn't make any sense to me in it's present form. If someone has a stupid employee, he doesn't mind if the person quits working for a while?? This doesn't sound like the employers I know!

Quote:
Would they be fired from their job?

YES!

Quote:
Probably not; if only for the simple reason that no one else would understand their work except for them.

Heh? I think you're beginning to confuse stupidity and genius. It's the genius we don't understand, not the moron!

Quote:
The job would have to be given back to the person, perhaps with a raise attached. While a more intelligent person works to the best of their ability, until they complete the job, a stupid person usually works to his or her satisfaction, which can be shoddy.

See, now your talking gibberish.

Quote:

They are both praised, but more often than not, the one who improved her grades will be focused on more. When it is reward time, the two sisters can receive the same amount of money, although the first did better.

This is a fine example of induction. The reason the person with poorer grades gets more praise in this example is because of the improvement. If one of the sisters usually flunked everything, while the other sister has a C average, and the first comes home with some C's, and the second comes home with straight A's, the latter would get more praise, believe you me, and not because of cleverness or the others' stupidity, but because of the greater improvement. Anyway, I think parents should reward and praise based on effort, and not accomplishments.

Quote:
With the lack of work expected from them, a stupid person is left with plenty of
free time.

I disagree. If you hire someone stupid, you expect that person to work twice as hard to make up for it.

Quote:
Some people can only imagine the privilege of having more time for amusement and the pleasures of life.

Yeah, the one's who got time consuming jobs, not necessarily the smartest ones!

Quote:
It can be relaxing and even healthy for someone to stop constantly pushing themselves, at full blast.
Obviously, but that's an issue relating to workaholicism, not intelligence!

Quote:

Well, to round things up, I can only say O sancta simplicitas! which in effect means that the simpleton often leads a happier and more worryless life than the enlightened one.

...I'm not saying I necessarily, and completely agree with my own speech, but I am simply trying to get a point across...mainly, I'm aiming for a good grade, and as the audience will on hear it once through, I'll hope that they won't necessarily catch on to every little detail, and criticize me for it...
