Reviving Heroes!

Hello everyone!

I'm pretty new to Heroes, but I have played before...only it was about 6-7 years ago. Right now I basically own the Millennium Edition from ages ago, with the Heroes 3, Restoration of Erathia.

Thats pretty much all I played so many years ago, but apparently there are a lot of expansions out now, and if I want to play online...I guess I should be getting them, or at least Heroes Complete!

I got some questions about it though, if anyone can help me.

1. What is the best way to get the different versions of Heroes 3? I know that you can get SOD and AB with Heroes Complete. Do I have to purchase it, or is it available for free or really cheap somewhere? I found some on Amazon, like Heroes 3 & 4 Complete for about $15-$20 plus shipping. Good price?

2. Also, I'm curious to know what changes were made with the SOD/AB and TE expansions...any links to previous threads or pages that list the basic stuff would be awesome!! (I know they added the Conflux town)

3. SO yeah, I've got Loads of catching up to, not only in game versions, but in tactics as well! I'm starting to read different strategies here, but some of it is over my head. I guess I'll figure more out as I play, and hopefully I can find someone who would be willing to help me out or train me a little, like the good old days.

I.e. One "noob" mistake was about not flagging mine with your main hero....Why not? Especially in the beginning when you've got like 2 heroes and you need mines! And only your main can take the mobs guarding them!

4. Last but not least, I was considering getting Heroes V! I Dl'ed the demo version for TOTE, and I really like the Orcs...but MAN! They added so much stuff to this game. Not sure if I like it better than 3, but I was wondering what you guys thought. What version of Heroes is you favorite and what Version is played the most in tourneys/online?

Sorry about all the questions. Hopefully I'll catch up soon! In the meantime, Any links to Noob strategy guides or things that explain stuff in a really detailed manner...at least the important, basic, fundamental tactics would be awesome!

Welcome  There are two expansions, plus Wake of Gods, which is fan-made.

Not bad I guess, considering the quality of the game, though you could probably get it cheaper.

Armageddon's Blade
+ Six new campaigns, each with a standalone story in the same gameworld
+ Far better storyline, continuing the Restoration of Erathia war
+  About 20 new neutral creatures, including level 8+ dragons
+ The Conflux town, complete with two new hero classes and eight new creatures
+ Some very minor balance changes I can't remember
+ Over 30 new single scenarios
+ 10 new campaign heroes
+ Map Editor improvements and new adventure map objects galore

Shadow of Death
+  Seven new campaigns, with an interlinking story
+  A pretty good storyline, as a prelude to the Restoration of Erathia
+  Standalone - doesn't require the base game, though still compatible
+  Over 30 more single scenarios
+  Introduction of Combination Artifacts which provide huge army bonuses
+  Logitech Mouse Support or something like that
+  Vast map editor improvements, with four semi-new campaign heroes

You'd best root around in the Library of Enlightenment subforum, top of the list on the main page (ignoring ToH).

I don't play online and Heroes III will always be my fave.  Heroes V is really good though, if you can stomach the campaign storyline (of the original game that is, the expansions are improving things a lot).

I wouldn't worry about it.

Can't imagine why everyone else seems to be dead, normally there's a lot of welcoming going on around here...

Ebay would also be a good way. 15-20 dollars for Complete is fine.

What do you expect?  It's the Newcomers' Inn, not exactly the most vibrant subforum you're likely to come across.
