I like to use campaign heroes cuz they are fun to play with.
It is interesting that when you know the speciality of Markal than you see that all undead will join you.But its seems half true,Death knights and mummies will not join even if they are undead they seem to be neutral units. How can i make those units actually join or act as 'Real' undead?

In their creature file (in GameMechanics), they have <CreatureTown> set to TOWN_NO_TYPE. I would first try by setting it to TOWN_NECROMANCY.

OK,one more thing I have to ask:How can I edit hero abilities so like the hero Giovanni should have the special hero ability of Arantir or Markal? I just like the vampire look of Giovanni.

@Seraphim:

In the MapObjects\(townname)\folders from the data.pak you will find .xdb files for every hero in the game. Every .xdb file contains a line like this:

<specialization>HERO_SPEC_..(name)..<specialization/>

you will have to fill in the internal name for the specialization you want. You can look in the .xdb from markal/arantir to see how their specializations are named. You should of course best use the files from the campaign hero unlocker and modify them for your own purpose. Otherwise you would also have to do a lot of other changes to unlock them.

Hello I was wondering how to solve this problem:

http://img209.imageshack.us/my.php?image=modificacinfallidaho1.jpg

Whenever I try to recolor a model these grey patches appear (I've followed the "modding for dummies" guide step by step). Does anyone know how to fix this?

Upload your DDS texture file

How are you making DDSs? With Photoshop, you must choose the option with explicit alpha (8 bits per pixel iirc). In a shameless act of self-advertisement, I say perhaps you could have a look at this tutorial...

Hi, help needed: How do I add files into the program?  I don't want to have to wait for WinZip to add files, it takes too long.  I'm still persistantly working on the Werewolf, and am reinastalling Heroes V to fix whatever mistakes I have made.

Do you mean e.g. changing textures, but without repackaging the main data.pak every time you want to change something?

Sorry, I meant like in the data.pak file, it has files

A.xdb
B.xdb

Now say I wanted to add in C.xdb into the data.pak file without actually manually putting it in.  How would I do this?

Doubleclick data.pak to open the archive, drag&drop C.xdb into the window, close window.

(requires proper file associations)

Okay, that's still manual but very easy. If the filenames don't change you could write a batch file to do this, then you just have to do a single double click to include the file.

Surely you can just put it in a separate mod file, or leave it loose in the right folder in the data directory, etc.??? You should never need to touch the data.pak file.

Daystar, just look at mods, nobody sends full 1GB data.pak as the file.

Its best if you first read Modding for Dummies, by EliteKill (all links down, after "modding_for_dummies"). Take a look on the FAQ too.

Um, extract the files from data.pak with WinRar first.  Then enter the extraction directory, select all folders, right-click somewhere, choose Properties from the menu and uncheck "Read Only" to remove the pack protection on all files.
