Romana: Great story. Emphazises my point very nicely.

Tristan: However, if noone strives for change, wont we be stuck in an "eternal now"? I live my life to the fullest (okay, maybe not to the *fullest*, but I enjoy myself), there are just aspects of my everyday life I don't find much good in, so I yearn for what I believe would change things for the better.

DonGio, I just think you need to take a nice holiday in the middle of nowhere and live life like a nomad. There is no crime in going bush you know. I know a lot of old guys who tell me that every six months or so, they go up north and just rough it for a week. No fancy stuff, just the basics. I haven't had the courage to try anything like that yet, I'm a coward when it comes to snakes and spiders, lol. And crocodiles aren't really my favourite pets either.

Wouldn't mind trying this is northern Canada or in Alaska though. And as much as I love Brazil, I couldn't go anywhere near the Amazon.

*shiver!*

Shae: LOL, I think I do! Our "outback" (isn't that what you call it "down under" (isn't that what you call it(isn't WHACK! Stop it, for crissake! ) is quite similar to the one in Canada, actually (although a lot smaller), and since only 2% of our land is populated, there's a lot of it! My family have a cabin in the mountains, where it's great to spend vacations in autumn and winter (and even summer. Have you ever seen the norwegian mountainscape shrouded in it's summer gown? (probably not, I guess ), hiking in the mountains, cross-country skiing when there's snow, chopping wood, fetching water at the well, rising with the sun each day. That's r'n'r for ya! I never feel as content and at peace with myself as when I'm up there. That's one of the reasons I wrote this thread!

DonGio:  You are right, if nobody tries to change anything we are stuck.  I really don't think I am arguing with you, maybe just looking at things a little different.  For me though, I think it would be enough to do such things for a while, it has always made me appreciate some of the modern conveniences more in some ways.

Most important, is if we wish things to be different, WE should do something about it, not expect the world to just change for us.  Not that I thought you were.  And it is oppinion, so some will have different oppinions.  Everything has a plus and a minus, and I agree that technology has made us weaker in some ways.

Oh, and I have really enjoyed reading everyone's thoughts on this, even if I do not fully agree with anyone

As for me, I think I will concentrate on making the present the best I can, and try to live within it.  Though I may find that some features of the "good old days" can be implemented.

I agree with you Tristan.

We can take many of the ideals from past times and implement them in our everyday lives.

Dont drive to work, walk or catch public transport, grow your own vegie garden, be nice to others.
Go out everyday with the intention of making at least one person smile and pick up one piece of rubbish.

We have advanced so much since the old days, we now have the technology to recycle, which saves us from chopping down trees everytime we need more furniture, more paper.

I think in my perfect world it would be the future that has in many ways regressed, we keep our technology for the good of the whole planet, not just the human race. We are not the be all and end all species, though we will probablky be the end all of this world if we dont make a change sometime soon.

Dont watch TV, its brain washing the masses "breeding ignorance and feeding radiation". Read more books, read more history and geography, be aquianted with whats happening over the other side of the world, not just your backyard. Do what you can to help those in less fortunate countries, sponsor children (with much research to make sure that more than just 1% of the money actually goes to the village and not the country's military regime).

There are so many ways in which we can all make the current state of the world better. It doesnt mean going back in time, but forward! Moving on with new thoughts and ideals.

But in saying all of that, I think the one thing that separates us from any otehr animal is greed. We strive to be better and stronger than those around us, and the way to do that now is through money and possessions. That will always stay with us, perhaps it is part of human nature, and cannot be changed ...

So yeah thats the end of my rant and the world that I would like to live in, and I still do believe that it can happen.

Tristan: Yeah, know what you mean. You make good points.

Frenzie: Good points here too! Doing those things would certainly improve the world. Although I'm not so sure about that greed thing. The natural instincts of most animals is to secure reproduction, and that is best done by being better or stronger than everyone around you. I think what separates humans from animals is the ability to think (in the elevated sense), making us feel compassion, but envy and jealousy as well. And then there's the whole opposable thumb thing (and yeah, I know some monkeys have them too).

Digging in the archives...

To think this thread was alive and kicking only a month and a half ago and is now at page 11.  Have we really been this liberal in thread creation?

Anyway, I wonder if anyone else has anything else to contribute to this thread...

...hehe, if it was only page 11, then may I be free to add that I removed around 4 pages between there and now?

...and yes I do have something to add...I miss the days where there weren't so many threads springing up each day, and where there was virtually nobody who would complain about the ratings, which are simply there for guidelines, and don't really count for too much...

Yeah, Gimmickless, you're right. But I guess those who were in it from the start have said what they had to say, and newcomers probably won't bother reading the whole thing. It's a nice thing to do, though, digging in the archives, and I really appreciate it and try to do it myself sometimes.

Indoor plumbing is alot better than pooping outside on a contaminated toilet seat that is probably wooden and would include a possibility of getting splinters and only god knows what else.  I would rather workout 2 hours a day and play HoM3 all night long.
