I agree RMS, my suggestion was something similar to the lines of Rogues, go somewhere that means something, a place where u met, you used to hang out, take her on a picnic, hire a boat and go somewhere nice.

Guess material value means nothing to me in presents, especially from my boyfriend. Id much prefer him to spend sometime arranging a picnic basket and organising something sweet than taking 10 minutes to go the shop and buy something that has no real "special" meaning between us other than its pretty.

Its not over yet

....ah a reason to keep this thread open.

....and it continues, hopefully with a happy ending

You were correct in assumeing that right after i thanked you all, that i would have already, or would right after, purchase the item in mind.

The necklace...doesnt mean our relationship is merely based on materal things...  I love her and she loves me. i dont think she would take advantage of me, but i wouldnt want to start thinking she would do that in the first place.

But, its her 18th birthday... a generally big one among birthdays... i would like her to remember it to be special, to have something to commemorate me and the day, and when she had it, she would think of me always...

(i have no clue if i spelled that right, or used it properly, but you get the clue, i hope)

However, with all this in mind, i foolishly stoll down to the jewlery place, thinking that what she wants is within my financial means. but...you guessed it...NOT. it was over a thousand dollars...perhaps not a big number to some..but to an average 17 year old kid...its anthrax!
(sorry, bad joke)

...and theres no way in hell i would accept help from anyone to help me get it, cuz in my mind, that wouldnt make it come from me...that would ruin the thought.

Soooo....Heres what i think ill do... ill go an seige some flower shop...and get her like 200 flowers and send em on over...(fun stuff in almost winter) ya know lil i love you, happy birthday card.tell everyone to leave me an her alone for the entire day, just me and her (like it should be)

make her breakfast...lunch and take her out for dinner.  come home...and do whatever.
i would done this with or without the necklace...just telling you guys...gotta have an ending )

thanks for all your helps guys. i dont know any of ya, but you're all my friends. (even zud)

Thanks! and maybe ill tell ya all how it goes...

Anfi (chris)

P.S. Maybe we should make this the LoveLine thread?

Well,

it doesn't matter what you are going to gift her as long as it makes her happy. Dunno about flowers, girls like having sth material to recall later- I mean after the b-day fuss's gone.

My modest suggestions

Hmmm, Anfi, a touching thread,.......

OK, here comes my suggestions:-

The situation:-
1). Your GF will be 18 on 28/11
2). You two have been dating for more than 5~6 years
3). You don't know what to do to give her a unforgetable sweet birthday
4). You are not a very "artistic" person ???

The assumption:-
1). You two love each other
2). You two understand each other quite well

After the long-winded boring background analysis, let me share with you some of my suggestion:-

A). Show her your heart, show her how much you love her. The gift doesn't matter, it is your heart that counts. You may even buy some ribbon and tie yourself up and say:-
"Now I give my life to you and declare myself your slave of love." >>>> kiss her........

B). Surprise: hit&run is not a good tactic in love, red day one rush is better (no no no, I don't mean to "rush" her on her "red days" )
Get her when she is not ready, do something that you normally won't do or you never do. If you are a terrible singer, SING for her ! If you can't cook, COOK for her....... let she knows you will try your best to do things for her, even you are not good at them. (Well, maybe it's better to do some practise before hand.........)

Romantic restaurant, beach side dinner, red roses.........all are good ideas as long as she can feel your love. How about taking her for a one-day trip, from the hospital you were born, your kindergarten, your primary school, the library you study...........share with her your experience from birth to now, share with her your joy and tear in the past and most importantly, your wish to chase your dream TOGETHER with her !!!

Anyway, the above is just my modest suggestions. Do whatever you want to do to make her happy, coz it's you who understand and love her most.

Good luck !!! ^_^

Hiya doughnut!

Hey, seeing as everyone seems to have the same idea of NOT buying her a present, I thought I'd add my worldly advice (lol!)

You have to do something special. Not presents, but something that's from YOU. Like it or not, if you want to impress her, you're going to have to be artistic. Not in the traditional sense, but in the creative sense.

Arrange somewhere to meet, somewhere really romantic, like the beach, or the top of a mountain with a spectacular view or someplace tranquil where you can spend some time enjoying each other's company and not be disturbed. Do not tell her of this place.

Leave her your first clue (of where you're going to meet) somewhere on the day of her birthday or whichever day you want to set up for her. Somewhere where she'll find it. This clue will have her next destination written clearly on it. Mark it with a simple, cheap flower and leave her a note. Have her go to her next destination, someplace common and unremarkable to find her next clue and her next flower. Make this flower a little prettier than the last one.

I don't care if you have to make her hail a taxi several times or walk or ride a bike, just get her looking for clues as to where 'you' are going to meet her. Don't leave cryptic clues, just simple directions and a poem of some sort.

If you can do this, and leave a more impressive, more romantic flower at each location and write a simple poem from your heart, then when she does find you waiting for her at your 'romantic' location with candlelit dinner or picnic basket holding a rose, then I promise you, you will have made her 18th birthday and she will remember this until she is 118 (no problem there!).

A few tips:

Leave the notes and the flowers at shop counters, stalls, places where you can trust that the person who's serving will give her the next clue. Don't leave a flower and a note somewhere where anyone can pick it up and take it. If one piece of your love puzzle goes missing, then she'll be unable to find you. You may need to tip the counter people (a dollar or two maybe?) so that they understand the importance of the favour they're doing for you. Just in case it may be handy for the two of you to keep in phone contact with two mobile phones. If you don't have a mobile each, then just ask two people if you can borrow their mobiles for a day and pay them for any calls you make. Leave the mobile at the site of the first clue and leave your phone number so she can ring you. I'm pretty certain she will, so it's important to keep the mystique of what you're doing and don't give away too much. Speak in love riddles to her or hang up it doesn't matter, just as long as she's getting closer to you.

Don't arrange a final meeting place inside unless it's freezing cold and/or raining. If it is raining or such outside, then make sure that this last place is right next to a fireplace if possible. Outside is far more romantic, but if it has to be inside (a nice restaraunt or something) then make sure you have the love of fire on your side...

Look your best. A nice white shirt and some nice pants and shoes will always impress a girl. No jeans please!

Leave a drop of your own aftershave on each note for her. That way, she'll know it's Chris and she won't be able to think of anything else except finding you.

Keep each destination distinctly low class. It will make the final meeting place all that more special if she has been conditioned to expect seedy (not too seedy!) places on her journey.

I hope you find my silly romantic chase to be worthwhile. And I hope you two have fun!

*smile*

Shae,

I had no idea you had such a romantic soul. Wow, I'm impressed.

The tragedy about girls is that always know what romance is and demand it... while the guys who loves them wonder what they really want.

What do women want?

Attention
The respect
Then love
Then admiration

It's so, so simple and so, so complicated

...yes, of course you should give her a gift and show her a good time, but make sure you mean it...also, I'm fairly certain that this isn't the case, but make sure that it isn't a one time thing...continually express your feelings, give her some small presents now and then, on more special occassions...the main idea is to keep it fairly simple, and from the heart...whatever you do, make sure it's as meaningful as if can possibly be...make the best of a situation, and stand by her side, always...and most importantly, always enjoy yourselves...even if you are having a terrible day, try not let it run over into hers...do not splatter the mud everywhere after an April shower, but instead be the sun the rises and creates a rainbow, a light to her world, in the worst possible situations...when it comes right down to it, trust your heart, and it shall lead you where it intends to go...

I hope that everything works out great, and enjoy yourself. Good luck!

Nothing wrong with romantic...

Really...

Too much sugar is always bad for your teeth and also for your health in overall...

That sweet taste only last for some moments before the bitter taste returns...
But now I'm going offtopic...

Could you also tell what happened there Anfi then?
I bet people are curious about it...
