Thinking about a 2 CD set of all the music from the entire Heroes 4 game series or maybe a  1 CD Samll compilation of selected tracks. What do you think?

I'm my humble opinion...

a single CD should do the task. This seem to be enough space at least for HOMM2 and HOMM3, but I don't know how much music do you have in the new HOMM4. Anyway, 75 minutes are time enough for a very nice collection of the most varied and climatic themes from the saga.

In game...

I liked both music in HoMMI and HoMM2 but HoMM3 was little bit disappointing. I only liked Necropolis music which was kinda funny violin stuff if you think Terry Pratchett and his Grim Reaper...

It's nice to see someone from NWC here of course and it's nice to see they are really putting effort to get good music into the game.

I'm now really looking forward to it.

probably you liked it more when it was played as MIDI on your sound card. But i think music is one and same - if you have good midi sound card - like Creative Soundlabalabablaster last one or somethin' like this with correct patches - you'll hear Heroes2 sounds almost like Heroes3.

That's the best music i've ever heard in games - there is no such thing - as that only one piece of music is good - there is no such things as there is a bad piece also - everything is so cool! - and I'm glad that I can play this music on my winamp and work the same time (i'm skipping the traditional themese - for battles and such - beacause i start feeling that i'll stop work and start the snowin' game .

There was one slight problem with Heroes2 running with non-midi music from CD-ROM - the problem was that switching to given track on a CD-ROM gives some lag - and thus makes problems playing the game - that's why i was choosing MIDI music to play - but I remmember few times getting the Heroes2 CD and playing in the car. The tunes are one with choir and one without - just cool

Now i wish tunes are again in mp3 format, not copyrighted (I mean we can upload them to our favourite handheld mp3player?) - and listen to them...

And at the end - cool that someone from NWC got here.

The opera sounds like it will be really improved - sorry to say, it was a bit annoying in Heroes II -

Uh, What? What? WHAT??!?!!???

That's just about the worst load of bs I've ever heard. The opera was annoying in Heroes II? Annoying? It was heaven sent, I tell ya! It was an epiphany! It was a revelation! I would have played any game, no matter how sucky, if it had that music. I still listen to it, and I never get tired of it! NEVER! A friend of mine who's a trumpeter and plays in symphony orchestras, was convinced that it was music of great classical composers, he even thought he recognized the barbarian theme as Beethoven! That's how good it is. Annoying, hmph!

Well there isn't Opera on every song. I realize it is an aquired taste for most people and the beauty of it is you can always turn it off. I have always tried to do something different for these games that you wouldn't hear in any other video game and we have worked months on this Score. The calibir of musicians on Heroes 4 is phenominal. Hopefully we captured the right "feel" for this game. I truely believe we did and hope that you will all enjoy it. My Good friend Paul Romero is an amazing composer and conductor. That is all he has done from age 7 when his first Music was published. He graduated from Curtis with a masters in Music and is an accomplished Pianist who has played for 3 presidents and many concerts around the world.

Here is a quick Bio of Paul Romero for those who would like to know:

Composer Paul Anthony Romero was classically trained at three of the world's leading music conservatories: The Curtis Institute of Music (alma-mater of musical giants Leonard Bernstein and Samuel Barber), the Paris Conservatoire, and London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama. The recipient of the 1999 BMI-Jerry Goldsmith Film Composers award brought Mr. Romero national attention as a film composer. Mr. Romero has composed the medieval score to Academy Award-winning director Alfonso Arau's "Silent France", due to broadcast on the Discovery Channel this year. Mr. Romero is currently scoring Arau's upcoming "Cortez" as well. Three independent movies with scores by Romero are awaiting release. Romero created the symphonic, operatic, and choral scores for New World Computing's internationally best-selling CD-rom game series, "Heroes of Might and Magic". With millions of copies sold aound the world, Mr. Romero has enjoyed rave reviews for the scores from the international press and legions of new fans. Romero has composed two operas, two piano concerti, and chamber music. His compositions have been performed on some of the world's great concert stages including the Kennedy Center, the United Nations General Assembly Hall, Tokyo's Bukka-kan, London's Wigmore Hall, the Jeux de Paum in Paris, and at festivals around the world. Paul has also worked with rock band Red Delicious on their CD Emotional Blur, providing exceptional string arrangements on the album.

Thanks Guys....

Hey, thanks for all the information!

Would it be rude of me to ask:

What is your part (and mr. Romero and others possibly involved) in the creation process?

I'm just curious as to what you're individual assignments are.

You are the musical producer? If so, what does that involve/mean?

Are you working very closely with Paul Romero in the actual composing process (are you composing yourself?), do you give him input and directions, how does it work?

Just curious!

DonGio...

you'll see the answer to your question in one place or another sooner or later...

Yes, I'm being vague, and yes I know something.

Anyway, sounds great by the descriptions here! I thought the vocals in Heroes II were great myself, and I'm glad to hear they'll be coming back for Heroes IV. That really caused the music to stand out in my mind...

Why do I get the feeling that I'm the only one here who's first thing it is I do is turn the music OFF on every game I play. It annoys me no end, the only games I've kept the music on for is the Monkey Island series.

It does sound like it's gonna be sweet though. I may have to change my ways.

Lupin, will you stop harping on this custom avatar thing?! Mutare's Chief Draconverser has already burnt up two tapestries and a small mound of sulfur from irritance. If Dark Hunter doesn't care, just let it be!

Sorry to the opera fans I've offended. I like opera, just in the middle of the Sorceress Castle......I dunno. I can see I'm fighting a losing battle. Poop. If I was in third grade, I'd cry. (Insert sound of Dragon chuckling to himself at having used such clever an ending for a paragraph *chucklechucklehackcoughwheezehackuphairball - woops, burnt up another tapestry*)

As for a Heroes Series Music CD, all the Heroes III Music alone takes up one CD; I hope I'm not going to get sued for saying this, but Mr. King, your Heroes soundtracks sound wonderful and quite flawless when used in a Shakepspeare Play. It wasn't a public play; no money was collected

No offense ever taken. I to am guilty of turning off the music when I play a game. Isn't life great, we always have options. Aside from the music issue...You guys are gonna love this game. It is really good, and they have really done an excellent job in taking it to another level. I am excited to get my copy! To bad I have to wait...

I have a question, does any of you listen to opera apart from playing the game? I do think the opera-score is cool but only for certain parts in the game, like for the necropolis. But I don't really like opera nor classic music apart from the game.

I got another question for the heroesmusicman, during battles, will the music be hard and ritmic, full of drums and basses? <-- would be cool!!!

I think the evil town needs a heavy metal theme...

I don't listen to opera in real life, but operatic vocals and/or classical music seem to work awesome in a fantasy setting - especially for battles.

For example, using O Fortune on the Heroes Chronicles trailer...

The battle themes are heavy with percusion tracks. We also went for a darker sound on these. Plenty of synth sounds too. Steve Baca handled most of the battle themes.

Mr. King,

Is it possible for you to make a track from Heroes IV available for download as a sort of preview? Almost like Jeff Blattner did for Gamespot?
