Yeah, wait a minute, the Kor originate on Zendikar. How did most of them end up on Dominaria? Hmm....Maybe that's the old empire and the ending of it scattered the Kor. If so, then multiversal powers may be at work. And how did Ob Nixilis lose his spark? I think maybe the Mending stole his spark accidentally, stranding him on Zendikar; or maybe Ob Nixilis lost his planeswalker status when the old powers were overturned into hedrons, and his spark is lost to them. I want to know Ob Nixilis's origins!

actually the kor on rath were stolen from their native plane and then eventually went to dominaria. But are the hedrons the cause of this theft?

We did time spiral block not so very long ago. I think that an uber-multiversal plot device would put R&D on very shaky ground. Worldwake will probably have some mild connection with planeswalking, but not something that stretches all the way to Dominaria.

The Kor of Dominaria were all shadows from Rath, which in turn was a parasite plane. That just about explains everything as much as I'm concerned.

EDIT: Wow, new Duel Decks announced!

Yeah, you notice how they went from general to specific. First it was Elves VS Gobbies, then two sets of Planeswalker VS, then Ideals (D VS D) now specific factions. Heh.

I'd have to agree with mamga, althought maybe black might splash a bit. The coalition is wubrg, no doubt. Has to be.

So I finally got my hands on some Zendikar today. Bought a fat pack for the excerpt and the box, and two packs, plus the Unstable Terrain intro pack, just to make sure I got the Sphinx.

Spoils out of 11 packs:

- Nissa Revane
- 2x Sadistic Sacraments
- Another Sphinx of Jwar Isle
- Elemental Appeal
- BEASTMASTER'S ASCENSION!
- Devout Lightcaster (useless)
- Kabira Evangel (worse that that)
- Blood Tribute
- Marsh Flats
- Celestial Mantle

That's just the rares. My favorite acquisition: Beastmaster's Ascension

Just discovered a terribly destructive combo:

Celestial Mantle...PAIRED WITH...Cradle of Vitality.

Imagine being at about 15 life, then you attack with something. Doesn't matter what it was, cuz now for just 1W, you've got a *+15/*+15.

Any "halfing/doubling" card works well with "that much" effects. Before Zendikar rotated out, it was Magister Sphinx coupled with Wound Reflection for instant win. The thing about you're combo is that by the time if fries, your opponent will probably be at 6-10 life, so its not a huge combo. My deck uses plenty of battle effects to preserve my life total, then Celestial Mantle + Cradle of Vitality is my finisher. Either that or Ajani's uber ability. How about a thiry thirty avatar beating you down with another huge creature.

Today marks my friend's first mtg purchase.

Rather than buying an intro pack, I suggested that we'd go over my collection and construct a decent deck for a beginning player at a much lower price. We went with a green-white deck with a bit of removal, some auras like an armadillo cloak and three shields of the oversoul and my once favourite creatures, four siege wurms. It's not very consistent, but is capable of some explosive plays.

I also tossed in a handful of other cards to enable some off-the-bat customisation, including a bunch of black cards.

She also bought a Zendikar booster off me, which contained Archive Trap and a foil Grazing Gladehart.

Sounds like a pretty decent starter for Legacy, but I would kick myself if I gave away an Archive Trap, but that's just me. But still, I loved siege wurm with my Convoke deck that abused Life and Limb so that Autochthon Wurms (yes, plural, i have 3) came out on about turn six or seven. Suffice to say, the duel didn't last long. Back then, removal wasn't too good. Now, it would die to Doom Blades and Hideous Ends.

Oh wow, a quick search on allegro.pl shows that Archive Trap currently stands anywhere between 5 to 10zl.

That's more than I expected, certainly.

Still, I guess it should be pretty decent, with Arid Mesa in the format and control/combo decks always searching for things.

Speaking of which - I haven't looked at the official boards since the overhaul. Are there any combo decks in the format yet?

Aside from the abusive nature of the Hexmage, I don't think i've heard of much. I learned that combo the moment I saw the Hexmage, i thought it was bloody obvious. But, anyway, I think its a bit too early, and combos are just now cropping up.

Unless something comes up, tomorrow I'm going to my very first FNM. I'll make sure to let you guys know how the draft went.

EDIT: Well, my record was mediocre, with the first round 2:1, second 0:2 and the final 1:2. I went with an rG deck, mostly splashing for removal. Scythe Tigers are great some of the time, but generally suck. I regret drafting three.

On the upside, though, first pick of the third pack was a foil Goblin Guide. That'll hopefully pay 3/4 of the entry fee. If so, then I'm definitely going to the next draft in two weeks.

And wow, allies are much better than I expected.
