I just imagined a Stack scenario where one player casts Invincible Hymn, thus elevating himself to 250 life or so, then another casts Anarchist and for the Hymn, plays Hymn, and then a third player casts Recollect for said Hymn.
That would be scary.

Yeah you shouldn't play invincible hymn in the pile.
I call it "The Pile" cause it doesn't get confused with talking about the stack as a game mechanic.

Okay, this new mechanic in RotE looks silly. Still, it's only for one set and I'll probably have some fun with it anyway.

One of the most popular cards in recent years was Figure of Destiny.
They basically decided to mainstream this type of mechanic to other cards.
I personally don't mind the idea. I do think that it will be rather underpowered though. All of these level up cards are going to be vulnerable to cheap red removal. Lightning bolt is instant speed whereas level up is sorcery speed.
As far as a common place for a game mechanic, I think it really depends on how much these cards see tournament play and whether or not it creates an artificial bubble in card prices.
Cards like Lotus Cobra or Sarkhan created artificial price bubbles, because they were flashy.
Magic has headed back to making overpowered rare cards again. If everyone wants the same few cards, then the demand for opening more packs of magic cards will go up.
It works on the business end of things, but unfortunately I feel that it hurts the game from a players standpoint.
So there is really a balance. If deck building becomes too expensive, then fewer people will play competitively, decreasing the demand for cards. But if competitive play is cheaper, then it will increase the number of people who play, thus increasing the demand of expensive cards.
I'd really be interested to see if Wizards hired a mathematician to create a mathematical model to try to maximize profit.
Maybe that's why magic cards have become more expensive over the past few years.

This card should work very nicely with the annihilator cards. Only good for casual games though.
Suspend gives the cards haste, so they'll attack the turn they come into play.

Also, they're played (as opposed to put on the battlefield), so you get the four cards from Kozilek, extra turn from Emrakul and so on. Good one!
EDIT: So anyway, today I went to a 3xWorldwake draft.
I firstpicked Marshal's Anthem, then took some Apex Hawks, Veteran's Reflexes and an Iona's Judgment, picking up Groundswells on the way. Then white ran dry, but green was plenty. I ended up cutting the white altogether and playing the following list:
Lands:
1 Quicksand
1 Khalni Garden
15 Forest
Creatures (sorted by cost):
2 Arbor Elf
2 Gnarlid Pack
1 Grappler Spider
2 Snapping Creeper
1 Leatherback Baloth
2 Graypelt Hunter
1 Wolfbriar Elemental (went as late as pick 4 or 5 in pack 2)
3 Vastwood Zendikon (technically not a creature, but was relevant in curve counting)
1 Bestial Menace (same as above)
1 Terrastodon
Spells:
2 Kitesail
2 Everflowing Chalice
3 Groundswell
Relevant sideboard:
1 Nature's Claim
1 Slingbow Trap
First round went 2-0. First game I played a first turn Arbor Elf into second turn Leatherback Baloth (which got Smothered). Opponent played some early Zendikons, but I quickly cought up. Eventually he dropped Wrexial, the Risen Deep ("for 6 mana? ") and I thought I was down, but next turn I got a lucky topdeck and went Forest, Kitesail, Groundswell for the win.
Nothing exciting further on - I won both following rounds 2-1 and went away with two packs, a foil promo Faerie Conclave and an oversized Mountain. The packs contained Stoneforge Mystic and Stone Idol Trap (+ the appropriate token )
And so, my Pile (formerly known as Stack) gladly welcomes the new additions: Terrastodon, Wolfbriar Elemental, Slingbow Trap, Marshal's Anthem, Quest for Renewal, Stone Idol Trap, Lightkeeper of Emeria, Smother, Ricochet Trap.
EDIT: I just remembered another detail. Around halfway through pack one someone remarked that mono green was pretty good in the format, which I commented on as nonsensical. This makes my later build and performance rather amusing in my eyes.

RSF# She is fantastic in a blue red time counter based deck!! I already got most of the Time counter cards, but now look at your newest idea!! Eldrazi monsters is more than welcome in that kind of deck...
Play one of the big eldrazi guys with 4 TC's, and then pull off some Fury Charm's, Timecrafting's or maybe the Sand mages..
aaand combine with some Worldwake cards:
Everflowing Chalice and the Eye of Ugin land..

I checked out my tournament record on www.thedci.com and it turns out my drafting performance has been going steadily upwards, while my sealed records mark a marginal improvement except for the anomaly that's Shadowmoor prerelease. This makes me consider dropping sealed entirely.

Well, he'll be a ridiculous bomb in Limited, that's for sure. Other than that, with a low enough mana curve, he's pretty good card draw.
EDIT: As someone over at the official MtG forums pointed out, this is a pretty good follow-up to Broodmate Dragon.

The creature's level is the amount of level counters. Nothing on the card implies that they enter the battlefield with any counters, so they start as level 0.
