[Request] Tele to a certain Town mod(UPDATED)

Hey, I don't think I'm the only one who hates the mechanics of the new "Town Portal" spell. Many people(just like me) think that you should have a choice between what town you want to teleport to. so i was just wondering if there is a mod like that or if someone could make one for us. thanks

I agree with Wulf.
If one (eg,you play barbarian) haven't got logistics- can be easly anooyed by his rival who has low power but high logistics- adn steals castles all the time :]

how would you know radar? i know you're a good modder but you and 2ndHero are known for your texture modding, not that kind of stuff modding. and about the thing that it can be a pain to go from one to another, it's not only barbarians, it's everyone! sometimes, i have to walk all the way across the map just to learn a good spell from another mage guild!

What? Just hire secondary heros and scout the area and youll get warning before any enemy hero gets near . even with logistics.
Only exception is really long games where your really far away i suppose. But thats just a risk you have to take i guess.

I have to say this idea isn't looking too great. I don't mind having to travel half the map, I am more of a strategist and I divert my time in such ways that none of my towns are ever re-taken after I have claimed them. Being able to teleport between them would cause several things:
1) Way easier game. Lets be honest, AI wouldn't know how to use this.
2)Hero and army sparing. If your main hero is about to engage in "one-sided combat" that he's going to lose, he shouldn't be able to retreat all the way to the other side of the map.
3) Even longer AI turns. Thats right, even longer. Now you'll be able to eat your dinner and watch TV for a half hour before returning to make another move.
I can't really think of any positives that would make this idea progress. If you come up with something and sway my mind, I'll be happy to help out though.

I myself find that I'm increasingly bored with running back and forth and back and forth and back again in endles chases of mindles AI heroes going through whirlpools or whatever means they use to spread over entire map. Off lately, I've increasingly often found myself not finishing maps because I find myself bored with doing the same 5-day walk for the 10th time in a game. In 1-vs-many maps, it can be a real pain not to have any means to effectively transport you around the map. If anyone could find a means to change the Town Portal spell back to Heroes 3 type, it would be a real life-saver.

1. I'll second Radar. It's simply impossible. The only way you can edit spells is through their formulas or visual effects.


2. Even if, at times, I'm as lazy as Alcibiades wrote, I'm happy that the old Town Portal is out of the game. I remember H3 games with super-heroes owning the whole map and when enemies were knocking at their castles' door, they just casted town portal, whacked the enemy and moved back to their grinding or played around with their high spellpower sorcerer, his black dragons and armaggedon and fled before killing of that army with their main army ... 0 strategy.

i don't mind the graphics, i think that people just want a button to press on when you are in the town to go to the other one. that's all. although i do think a mod switching it back to the old town tele is a good idea

In pure modding, I also think it is not possible. The only way I see right now is through scripting.
A hero can be teleported with SetObjectPosition().
A town position can be obtained through GetObjectPosition().
If the towns have names defined in the map, these can be retrieved through GetAllNames(1), but other objects will have to be filtered out. Otherwise, it will require some work to get a list of towns.

A possible workaround could be using GetHeroTown(), that gives the town into which the specified hero is garrisoned. That could be used to teleport a hero at the gates of the town, as long as another hero is garrisoned here. Maybe the garrisoned hero is needed to power the teleporter.

All this could be tied, for example, to a special artifact.

However, I don't think this goes well with H5 gameplay choices. Avoiding what Alc describes is the mapmaker's responsibility, and the need for a quick teleport "spell" should be solved with teleports (buildings), or different map design. Or secondary hero. Or better planning in exploration and conquest.
The whole goal of strategy in a war is to have the minimal amount of troops in the correct place at the correct time. One superhero that can go everywhere in an instant is indeed 0 strategy.

Teleport from random place on the map to town can be created (not with something new, just changes), but form town to town... I think not possible...

Actually it will be cool even if you can teleport to a town form random location, like the Hearthstone in WOW but in Heroes version.

Ok, this thread is about to change! Tele to a town of your choice, it doesn't really matter, you are satinding in a town and you can tele to another town of your choice, still sort of town-to-town tele lol. ok, masterpost updated
