Neutral Creatures MOD

Now some of you may already be familiar with my idea of bringing neutral creatures from previous games into H5. If not, here is a brief explanation.

The section that includes all Neutral Creatures in Heroes 5 is...to say the least rather small. Its quite a disgrace that there is more variety in a town than in the world of neutrals. As such, I would like to create a mod that reintroduces several old creatures, and a few new ones. Among these are:
-Azure Dragons
-Crystal Dragons
-Rust Dragons
-Sharpshooters (not the Arcane Archers from Sylvan but slighty better ones)
-Enchanters
Most of you know these units from Heroes 3 and probably miss some of them. For those of you who haven't noticed, the Crystal Dragon mod that incorporates said creatures into the game as neutral creatures is currently available.

Several other ideas I've had include an alternate "upgrade" (in quotes because you can't recruit it anyway) for the Phoenix. Thunderbird perhaps? Only we'll give it a cooler name.

The first matter that I need know is whether anyway would like to help me with this mod. If there is no support, I'll just drop it. Things I'll need is textures (Cepheus already agreed to make some), and of course programmers for all the other things. I'm not new to modding, but I am new to Heroes 5 modding and so I'll need some help.

The second matter is for those of you who are interested but wish not to mod. All I ask of you is suggestions, because I want a lively world of neutral creatures but have only few ideas. Remember also that for creatures to look good they have to be based on existing models. Likewise, please comment on my current suggestions and tell me if anything needs be changed, removed, or if I ought to just drop the whole idea.

EDIT: 1 - 14 - 2008

Sorry for the late edit. Warlore has been put in charge of this mod, as a result of the fact that I recently have too much school things going on and would really prefer to leave the moddding community for a while. I'll still be around from time to time and will be helping out, but I guess you'll have to direct any questions you might have to Warlore.

As of right now, the three main creatures everyone likes most are the three great dragons of course. However, I would very muc favor some lower tier neutrals and encourage the Sharpshooter though the Enchanter provides a problem. Other suggestions might include making Thunderbird a Tier 6 (not likely). And perhaps we can present the awesome Bears! Without their riders of course. Will be similar to the bear riders in stats though.

Here's that Sharpshooter you wanted.  I changed some colours, added some small details and removed that unsightly shrub growing around his neck... Is it any good?

Neck looks kind of empty. If you can replace shrubs with something small to make it look just a tad better.

I love actual texture thuogh. Looks great. I'm finishing up on the Crystal Dragon. When I'm done, I'll get into this.

Unfortunately, I can't add anything, I can only take stuff away (by turning parts transparent, a trick I learned about an hour ago)... so the neck will have to stay as it is.

If thats the case then its fine as it is. After all, I asked you to make it not look too much like Arcane Archer and I'm happy to say you succeeded in doing so.

EDIT: Sorry, for now I have to communicate by means of editing. I can't make any more posts today (ran my limit on the Crystal Dragons). Azure Dragon looks nice from birds eye, but it could do with some change.

In case I don't find them in 5 or so minutes, could also tell me where are the textures for Green and Black Dragon located?

EDIT 2: How do you know all this? There must be some sort of trick...

Edit 3:
@Cepheus' latest post that I can possibly respond to

Sure. But not today. I'd rather rejoin this train of thought when I can post again. Till tomorrow then.

Great, thanks.  I'll upload the textures in a matter of minutes.

EDIT:  http://www.mediafire.com/?awjiwedyjwy

As for the Azure, maybe you'd care for something like this?

It was made by Relentless, back in the early days of modding.  A fine Azure Dragon.

Another EDIT:  The Green Dragon textures are in

data.pak\Characters\Creatures\Rampart

And the Black Dragon ones should be found in

data.pak\Textures\auto-imported\Creatures\Dungeon\BlackDragon

I think that some of neutrals should have basic version adn two upgrades. There could be then:
Rok ---> Phoenix -----> Thunder Bird (don't change the name, 'cuz it is the real name from indian mythology and then you could write in descriptiuon that the Thunderbirds are the incarantions of Slyath (Father Sky) )

EDIT:
Which abilities would have those two (sharp and draco)?
I think that the first one should have double shot, precise shot and the thingy from Crossbowman that deletes melee penalty... You could also give him maneuver so he would be an ultimate shooter

@InfernoX880: well, half of modding is based around trickery... I could easily teach you how to find the texture of any unit in the game, if you like.

I would like to see old neutral creatures, especially the superdragons. Unfortunately I haven't found out how to add one, but the fact that it is possible with heroes makes me believe it is possible with creatures too.
Most new creature mods replace the snow ape.

In case you want to know, I also found out another fun way to add new dragons:

You can change the avatar of death ability to any creature you want, by modding the AvatarOfDeath.xdb file in the Gamemechanics\RPGStats folder. For example:
if you want Arantir to have a summon Azure-dragon specialization you can change this line to the creature that is replaced by the azure dragon:

<PrototypeCreature>CREATURE_SHADOW_DRAGON</PrototypeCreature>

you can also completely reorder the abilities it gets when leveling up. You can also give the specialization to any hero from any faction.(find the hero files in the mapobjects folder). I used this technique to give Mutare the ability to summon a red dragon in my Heroes of Axeoth mod.

Yay I can post again!

@Cepheus

Few things to do. Firstly, regarding some Sharpshooter perfections. Behind the head, there is a transparent spot. Is it possible to use the brush and make a full hood? Also, can you remove the Elf ears? If not, I will and then we can compare which looks better.

Regarding Rust Dragons, I had some problems with making one earlier but it will be based on either Green or Emerald Dragon with imported picture of rust and patches of bright green (acid).

Azure dragon looks to much like the model from whence it came. I think it would look beter on Black Dragon if it was possible to remove armor from Black Dragon. I say this mostly because of the cool veins it has that can fit in nicely. If it is impossible to remove armor, I will try to import the veins of the black dragon onto the Crystal (Rainbow) Dragon then make the scales less...Crystally.

I will also need to start brainstorming on the Enchanters.

@Lesij
Abilities for Sharhpshooter will probably be only No Range Penalty and Precise Shot. Unlike the Arcane Archers, he will be a high powered tier 4 or 5 unit (probably 4) with greater HP but similar stats.

@Antipaladin
?

Other Info:
I'm still unsure of what to do with Phoenixes. Thunderbirds sound like a good option but I can't think of how to do that, unless it is possible to import the moving thunder from Titans and place it on them. Likely that I will invent some new creature that is unfamiliar to be seen such as Shadow Bird, or on the contrary Luster Phoenix or something.

I think that covers everything for now.

Any link for that beautiful Blue Dragon (from Cephus' post)?  I was bummed when I thought that was what I was downloading and it turned out to be an Elven Sharpshooter (not that it isn't good work, mind you).

It would be so cool to have good mods for all colors.  Blue, Red, White, Black, Green, Gold, Silver...let's see, so far I have mods for an awesome Red Dragon by Fiur; the Gold one; game comes with Black; an awesome Rainbow Dragon (really, really nice); Green is included in-game but whomever made the Gold one made a better, more vibrant Green dragon; and now I've seen this Blue one {"will work for mod...").

If I can get this one, it looks like only White and Silver to go.  The White, with it's mind and body-numbing deathly frozen ice-breath, and the Silver, with it's stream of metalic-silver acid.  I wish I was better at texturing, but alas, I just have to enjoy the wonderful work done by others for now.

I'd love that Blue one (Azure)!  Thanks to the modders out there for the Red, Green, Gold and all of the other awesome work done so far!

I didn't. Tank's model exists in game files.

Taking files from other games for using it in H5 is impossible. Please, people, don't confuse others while you actually don't know what you are writing about.
