Hey, if they really did remove the instalation limit, then there's no reason for me not to buy. Hooray!

EDIT: I was looking for confirmation on the official site, but couldn't find any.

If they really did remove it, then I'd probably pick it up later in the year.

Sure seems like a lot of great games are being released.  I'm going to go broke.

Some of my friends even buy and upg their comps just to play the game.

This game is very good, and super epic when you reach space phase. Honestly, i buy this game because this game give so many freedom to design your own race, from the model of your race, its house, its factory, its tank, plane, ships, even you can design its spaceship. Second reason why i buy this game is because the space phase, it's superb, i never imagine that a game like this is finaly exist.

K, I bought it. Works fine on my computer, although the details aren't as great as I'd like. I'm at the end of the creature phase and love the game.

Many thumbs up

EDIT: Running around with three of them 250hp guys and flattening everything sure is fun!

I have P4 2.8GHz, 512MB RAM and NVidia 7600GT, it lags a bit in later parts (big massive landscapes/space), but I can play it pretty nicely. And this game doesn`t have impressive graphics anyway (no AA for example).

About the game - I think Gamespot has a nice review of Spore. If separated, every part of the game would be crap, but if you add them as one and create an entire empire out of a single cell - that`s something awesome. You feel you`ve done all of this and it`s a great feeling. Plus, the Creators are simply amazing, especially Creature Creator - it can make every freak you make work as if it was a real, genuine being. For example, you don`t even have to add legs.

It`s downfall is extreme simplicity and well, if you play a phase about ten minutes, you`ll pretty much know everything it has to offer and the remaining 30 minutes will be repeating the same.

Replay value is there because of different creatures (doesnt matter after phase 3 actually), machines, buldings and the different "properties" you can give them (social, carnivore, industrial, etc.).
It could have been something much more if only they made it a little... no, a lot more complex and deep.

I'm thinking of buying this game... I probably will.

So, do you think there are any expansions coming up?

Since it's EA, and The Sims 2 has like, 52 expansions...

This game has a built-in expansion - downloading people`s stuff.
But seriously, as you mentioned The Sims (2), EA could probably make an expansion for every phase of the game to make them harder and add stuff to do. Well, maybe not for the cell phase, but... seeing as they all lack complexity (is there such a word?).
That would be 4 expansions. Nice!

I actually found SPORE a little disappointing.
Happy that I didn't actually buy the game. I could have gotten the almost same experience by creature generator. All parts of the game have been done better by some other series. The overall is quite nice though.

The first part is mostly annoying. It's gameplay is crappy when compared to Flow.

The second part I liked the most. But EVO:Search for Eden much better and not just mindless grinding.

Third part was awfull. I've got AoE or jst about million games that do it better. And it doesn't tell the rules at the start. I didn't know I died when all my members die and at the last village, poof, restart. AARGH!

Fourth part is kinda filler material. Nothing real to learn there. Grinding. not good. Maybe the worst. But you can nuke the whole planet which is kinda cool.

The last phase in kinda good. Definitely not bad but I have played so much Star Control II and this doesn't come close to it so...

BTW. ChaosDragon if you like the last phase I really suggest you to take a look at UR-Quan Masters. Google it. It's a free version of Star Control II. something you might really be interested in. It doesn't have the customisation for anything else than your Spaceship but in every other way it tops SPORE. It does have pretty rough graphics though.

But this is definitely the best toy for building Heroes Creatures.

I'm really not sure what they expected to gain with this DRM thing. The pirate version is still out there and working, plus it allows you unlimited installations, doesn't require any activations or security checks whatsoever etc. There are even pirate creature packs. Seriously, I think this encourages piracy more than anything.
Basically the only group of people they screwed are the legal customers.

Anyways, I've never been so split-minded about a game. It's crappy, alright, it's more or less like a mixture of five different games, and for each of them there's a far better one on the market, but... it's incredibly fun at the same time. All that creature making and watching your creations go around and function. Alright, it was a bit too much in the Civilization phase where you had to design the City Hall, houses, factories, entertainment buildings, military land vehicles, military air vehicles, military sea vehicles, religious land vehicles, religious air vehicles, religious sea vehicles, economic land vehicles, economic air vehicles, and economic sea vehicles (oh and a spaceship), but it was still pretty addictive. The creature creator (and all those other creators as well) are of course the best part of the game, and everything else is there pretty much as an attempt to justify them lightening your purse so much - you would expect more, far more, but it somehow isn't so bad after all.

Or, rather, it is bad, but it also has its good points. Pretty much like sleeping with a hooker.

Nope, i prefer spore, because it offer more freedom in spaceship model design. I barely can create a dragon like ship there.

Honestly, i like spore not only because of space phase, but i like spore as a whole.

Ofc i said that i love space phase the most but don't be mistaken, i did not said that i hate the 4 other phases, because in spore, what important is a personality of your race, things that make it unique, a future without past and present will never exist, so if i only playing and loving only the space phase or anything but the whole phases, then  i'd better leave spore.

Another factor is because i love stargate and star trek (but prefer stargate), not star wars. And when i play spore i get the feel of it, a thing star controll can't give. Maybe most people see the space part only of stargate/star trek, but imo the history of races, and how they become so powerful that some other races think them as gods in their myth is very important, no games ever give the opportunity to create and control the whole history of your races from cell to galactic except this spore.

Ofc if you talk only about trading and story, i give it to star control, but overall spore beat star control, even in ship battle i still prefer spore, yeah the weapon system and trading are simple and limited, but even so, it's better, not to mention in spore you can destroy planet, and in spore i can cross a black hole (with a device that treat it as a wormhole), this kinda remind me of stargate and last, in spore, you can freely shape you planet to fit your need (you can even freely choose which flora and fauna to live in all those planets), i mean terraforming a planet, a feature star control fail to give. Maybe  that three feature are things that made me got the feeling of stargate/star trek from spore, things that star control fail to give. Well, spore also has much more star systems than star control 2. Things that spore lack in space phase is the feature to travel to another galaxy, i have a high hope when i receive a mission to investigate the center of the galaxy, at first i thought maybe it's a gateway to another galaxy, but hell, it's not, i'm a little dissapointed about this, not to mention defeating grox takes long time (i play in hard, without any mod, if i'm no mistaken there is a spore mod that will reduce the fequency of the attack from your enemies), ofc i can ally with them, but my pride choose me to annihilate them completely, it takes long time because there is so many things to be prepared before tackling grox, the hardest part maybe unlocking the upg via unlocking medals, the sporebucks needed to purchase all the upgs is not that hard to obtain.

Well, two days ago i succeed creating Sokar's Netu/Sokar's Hell from stargate, and last night i succeed creating The Nox like city, except this doesn't float in the sky, complete with The Nox's music and theme. So i prefer spore far more than star control or any space games ever existed (be it homeworld 2, sin of solar empire, star trek series, galactic civilization, etc).

I see where you are going Chaos Dragon.

I agree about the whole history and modification part but somehow I just get the feeling that when they made spore they didn't pay much attention to the gameplay itself. I'm not the kinda person who just mods cars in NFSU or builds planets in SPORE. I want game that I like to play. nOt a frigging editor. I liked the Star phase untill I found out that I've done everything I wanted and a little of those I didn't want and I still needed two more promotions to finish this game! Like there wasn't enough grinding in the lower phases and now they turned this to a grinding too! Besides it lacks the HALLELUJAH effect when you finish the game. It's like.
Nice job, please come again.

PS. you can travel through wormholes in Star Control 2.
