EDIT: ok guys, this has been a week. a week of waiting. and we got... *checking his e-mail one last time*... NOTHING! ok, so now we are gonna send it to Ubi. i'll take a look at their contacts right now...
EDIT2: *bump* i'm still waiting for someone to tell me at least one Ubi e-mail address!

Didn't see that one coming
It always bothers me when people ignore you like this. Even if they were just going to say "we don't have time to implement this", hey even if it was "we don't have time to read this email", anything would have been better, and more polite, than just *...silence...*.

There is an email on the site for `press`
servicepresse@ubisoft.fr

I suppose you could ask them who you should email, but it probably ought to be in French.

http://ubisoft-en.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/ubisoft_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_alp.php provides the option of asking a question about a game, but it's obviously much more for support than submitting suggestions. Might be worth a try, but you need to register first by the looks of it.

I hope UBI and Nival will read that letter and support us on this! Its just to damn cumbersome to mod now! And I would have made 10+ mods alredy havent it been for such mess of files etc. Everyone should be able to mod a creture, adv.object, well mostly anything they want a change to/for. Is it really that much to ask for, since the H5 saga have been completed?

You're kidding me, right?
He's been all over the Modder's Workshop lately.
Hell, he's even online right now, why don't you send him an HCM?

Seriously, I don't think a letter sent to Ubi/Nival is the right way to achieve your goal. An open letter is far better I think, provided you can gather many people around it, and create a real buzz in the community, and on gaming sites as well.

Let me be clear: who are you sending your letter to? Will it matter? Basically, at Ubisoft, there's only one person who you can send your letter to: Fabrice Cambounet. And he already knows because I've already told him (more than two months ago) that we need:
- an unlocked exe to add new creatures
- the model conversion tool to import new models into the game
- documentation

Considering I made the unlocked exe myself, you can guess that not much is moving on Ubi's side right now.
So the question is, what could make them move?

If anything can, it's the proof that many people care, and want these tools. A letter won't show that. But a thread with many people posting to show their support, news spreading over the net about the biiig modding community in need of modding tools, that would be good.

So, what is an open letter, and why is it different from a letter? An open letter is the same as a letter, except that you publish it publicly, somewhere where it can be read and commented by many people, instead of being privately sent to someone.

It doesn't need to be in french, Ubi's people read english without a problem. What's more important is that it's spread over many sites to show that they care. Note that right now, about 10 people only have posted in this thread. That's far from the count. You need to rally many more, and not only modders: you need to have the support of standard players saying they want more richness in their game, and they expect modders to be able to supply it.
I would say that unless you can gather at least several hundred people on this cause, you're insignificant.

Now, I don't want to be rude, but I have to comment on Orfinn's post. Orfinn, do you realize what we are asking for here? The letter is asking for a model conversion tool. This has nothing to do with making modding simpler! On the contrary, creating a 3D model is something very difficult, harder than editing textures. If you are not able to create a mod now, why would you think you will be with a model conversion tool??? You'll only have much more files to deal with, plus 3D editing.

To conclude this rather long post, I'll explain a little how I think: to convince Ubisoft/Nival to give us tools, we need support from more people. To get more support, we need to release more quality mods that people will want to use, that are easy to use, and that bring value to the game. I think this is a necessary (and slow) process, and the NCF is a first step in this direction: the more quality creatures we create, and quality maps that features them, the more players will use mods, and some of them will want to become modders as well.

It's a point though, how many of us here would actually be able to make a new creature model worthy of being inserted into the game? I wouldn't be able to, not without hours of work, which I wouldn't be willing to put in. I guess we'd hope that editing the shapes of models would work well and provide additional interest.

I would.

I have a werewolf model ready to go, as well as a Naga, which could be adapted into a Gorgon.

lol daystar... with his usual 3D modeling skills... ok, i'll make a post on a couple of the english ones, and see how many ppl like it. if not many ppl really want the idea, we will expand to russia, if Nival still does nothing about it,(btw@sfidanza: waht do you expect them to do?) then we will need more ppl and will need to convince our multinational HC race to post on the boards of their language. Ubival definetly has someone lurking around every forum, btw, i wonder who it is on this site, ... Detective Sherlock Wulfstan will solve this mystery!

Who's your Watson?

It will be indeed hard to render 3-D models praiseworthy of Heroes. My modding skills are just now culminating, and I bet I can make some fun stuff. Having personally seen Daystars work, I think he could make the best models into the game. There are numerous modders worthy of recognition that I cannot fit into a decently small post. Many people would be encouraged to take up the art if ever there was a liable program to make said wonders. I, for one, am good with look through code and script, and my skills with the e-paintbrush aren't that bad. No doubt countless others could take the new support as an encouragement to begin the task of modding/importing. I show my support to the effort.

Nival Rep.

@Nival in general: I have enough knowledge of 3D CG to make models, and there are enough programs out there (Blender, GMAX, Demo verisons of a plethora of software files) that others could learn, and I am happy to teach.  I know enough to get animations going as well. List of what I have:

Werewolf (Modeled, Boned, Textured)
Naga (Modeled, Boned, Textured)
Amphisbaena (Modeled, Textured, Needs Boning)
Cat (Modeled, Boned, Textured)
Cockatrice (Modled, Boned)
Faceless (Modled, Textured (Boning NA))
Faceless Second Version (Modled, Textured, Boned)
Faerie (Modled, Texured, Boned)
Kirin (Modled, Boned, Partially textured)
Ooze (Modled, Boning NA, Textures NA)
Undead Spider (Modled, Boned, Textured (although I want to update them)
Deer (Modled)
Stonehelm-ish Knight (Modled, Boned, Texutred)
Wyrm (Modled)

All of these could be added to the game, but we need a converter.  Its all we ask.  You probobally have it on your computers anyway.

yes, an open letter or petition is what would work best imo. I know this was done from the warcraft 3 modding community shortly after the release of TFT. A petition was made, hundreds of people signed it and Blizzard actually released to us the very tools they used to export their models from 3ds max + documentation. And now we have databases with thousands of models which is still growing.

Now I don't know if it will have the same effect on Nival or Ubisoft, but I pray that it will. Ever since I first played the Heroes 5 demo I couldn't stop thinking about modding it, but when the final version was out I was very disappointed by the lack of modding support...the same was for Oblivion, where it's hard as hell to get 100% custom creatures in-game. I don't know what hurts the producers so much nowadays to support graphical modding.

If you guys want, I can make the open letter appearing on several most important chinese forums regarding hero 5. I really appreciate the idea to have geometry editable. Many Chinese modders really want that happen. I just don't know how to make nival see those anticipated reactions in Chinese. I can also translate the letter in Chinese, but I'd better have the final version of letter concluded in this forum prior to my translation.

Better way?

1. Nival will not read the email (or you'll wait months..., even years!).
2. If you spamm Nival's email box they will simply ignore you.
3. Also your email sounds like you are the only one who want this knowledge. Its better if not only you but everyone can sign the petition. If everyone can sign it, you can call members from other heroes forums.

We can start petition here:

http://www.petitiononline.com/

When we have enough signatures, we can send it to Ubi, Nival and personally to Fabrice Cambounet.

Also if we want to include the names of heroes communities (HC, AoH, CH, Drachenwald, Heroic Corner, Heroes fr...) we have to ask their owners, right?

If we think up good text for the petition and if we translate it (in french of Heroes fr, in german for Drachenwald, in russian for Heroic Corner, in Czech for Heroes Centrum...). If we sent word to all heroes fan sites many will sign.

Something like the old "Save Heroes" petition!
