Demons... Brilliant. I enjoyed the good warrior's lust for battle. It distracted the enemy while I fried them and the necessity of my minion wasn't so big anymore. I lost all my inhibitions. There was no such thing anymore as holding back. Death and raw, arcane force rained on my enemies, as it was meant to be, fueled by the cries of the living and the dead and the bloodlust of our dear captain.

And now... A shadow demon. I grinned when the captain bravely charged in on him. 'Time to show true shadow' I thought, when I forced my mind to go to the darkest places and drain the energy to my fists. I guided the utterdark blast through my body to my fingertips and casted them onto the great demon. The demon barely flinched, but his diminished strength should make it easier for my fellow philanthropist. To keep the other monsters at bay, I ordered my minion to stay close and I hunched over, my hands on the ground and whispered ancient words, pleading to help me. A great force stirred and ice shot out of the ground, freezing, holding or punching anyone on their place.

I spent my time concentrating and directing the chilling tentacles away from the captain and keeping the imps at bay, possibly harming the great demon.

I stare at the woman coming at me, studying her movements. Countering any magic she may cast may be difficult. Probably almost too difficult to do, since I have this ringing being as distracting as it is. I have to do something else.

"Alright, I luckily have something planned for such an occasion."

I can't even hear myself. Though, it hardly matters. I must act fast, and even faster, if I want to stop this lady. I reach into my bag and grab a sack. I pull this sack out, throwing it somewhere towards the woman's legs. The sack contains several bottles of alchemist's fire. With spells prepared, I'm hoping I don't burn myself too much, if it should even reach me.

The feeling was EXHILARATING! Chareging at his foe through the rain of the destruction the Warlock was unleashing, every synapsis in his brain craved for more, more, more, more.
The very air was crackling with the unadulterated and powerfull arcane forces unleased by the Warlock. In the heat of the battle it was like Azagal had found a whole new source of untaped power, a realm of him he had yet to explore. This power beyond anything the young warrior had ever grasped before. The screams of agony and death, the detonations, the echo of hatefilled battlecries, the clash of weapons... it was music and Azagal was a mere dancer in his duett of death with the Warlock. The music was all arround all consumeing, once he had given himself over to the sensation of the music it was singing in his blood, promising more power,... more music. Still chargeing he felt the crescendo of the Warlock as he sent a huge blast of some sinister dark energy unknown to Azagal flying at the Demon.
The Warlocks and Azagals music was now afortissimo forte crescendo , dominated by determination and power. Their music riseing and roaring over the unearthly cacophony of the shadow demons, which contained some sinister harmony in it's chaos of twisted noise.
Only meters from reaching his foes the ground suddelny spew ice which formed menacing tentacles. Grasping the opportunity of the moment Azagal withdrew the claws of his mechanical arm and grasped one of the tentacles his numb mechanical arm untouched by the icey terror the tentacles emmited. As the tentacles flew upwords in order to slash out at the demon, Azagal let go while the momentum of the tentacles motion still carried him straigth upward. Riseing into the air he stretched out his mechanical arm and with a booming laughter he released the fireball from his arm.

"FACE AWAY WARLOCK!!!!"

His eyes glowing with insane satisfaction he ignited the fireball just over the heads of the shadow Deamons, the blinding light for a moment shining like a small sun. The upward momentum had now vanished and trough the fadeing rays of blinding light he fell towards the shadow demon Dagoth had targeted with the blash of dark energy.

"AHAHAAA!! NOW... YOU DIE!!!"

I became utterly convinced that I had found the ultimate ally in war, a close combat expert, but before I could delight in the fact of the ruthlesness of our dear captain or witness the fate of the demon, a smack on my head ended my thoughts. I was flung across the area, while the tentacles suddenly were retreating to the ground, shaken and cowardly without a master. I laid there for a few seconds, face to face to my minion. "I... hate you... So Much..." I uttered to my weak underling, when I suddenly noticed that only the skull of my minion was lying there. The body laid broken in a trail leading to where we were lying.

I got up as fast as I could and saw another great demon with great amounts of frostbite, coloring it's legs in a deep purple. I quickly pulled out my minion and prepared to make myself vanish. It wasn't honorable or fair towards the dear captain, but survival is and has always been top priority. The demon seemed very slow through the chill of icy tentacles, so I decided to make it... burn... I slowly breathe in and out, while I was summoning the most fiery thoughts out of my memories and senses to guide fire and arcane magics through my body.

“Keep going!  The only way we’ll put a stop to this is if we stop Sun!” Moon replies with a twist of a scimitar ending an unfortunate thief’s life.  The trail has grown quite bloody, forcing the trio to climb over a trail of corpses to reach their target.  Between the three (and the dog), three hundred bodies litter the path up the mountain.

“Makes you wonder what she could be possibly planning.  So much blood and for what?” Onyx ponders through gritted teeth.

“You realize we are playing right into her hand right?” asks Moon as vines spring forth and start to constrict their pursuers.  “Perhaps it would have been wiser to destroy the crystals or hide them instead of marching right into the Hells.”

“No good,” I already tried that long ago.  “Whatever enchantment was placed on the shards can not be undone by mortal magic.  I tried every spell I could think of; nothing worked.  I came to the conclusion that the magic holding it together is beyond our understanding.”

“So what exactly are you saying?”  Another slash, another corpse bows before Moon.

“Mortals did not make the shards.  I can’t explain it but I have a horrible feeling that there is a lot more to the shards and unless we get them, we’re dead.”

“Lovely.  So the demon prince must know something about it.  Or somehow Sun gained that knowledge.”

As the three heroes climb higher, the fighting becomes more intense.  A luckier demon scores a glancing hit on Onyx, disabling is left arm.  The right held enough energy to blow the fiend to smithereens.  Dozens of Fate’s arrows left several pin-cushions behind, while Shady and the summoned wolves hunted tore at the rest.  A combination of sword swipes and arctic power took care of the rest.  Within 20 minutes, a clean trail had been cut half way up the Hill.

“Ah, looks like you made it,” smiles the demon Prince Zarfax. “I’m afraid that’s as far as I can let you go.”

“Wow!  Did you actually think of such an original thing to say all by yourself?!” mocks Onyx as he prepares for a savage fight.

==================================================

“Funny how life never works out like it should, isn’t it?” teases one of the shadowy demons as it appears behind with a shadowy poof.  A vaporous fist smashes the young warrior towards the ground at a frightening speed.  As the guard hurtles towards the ground, the other demon acting in tedum, delivers a brutal kick into Azagal’s ribs.  The force of the blow drops the young fighter to the ground like a wet rag.

As Azagal struggles on the ground to grasp any breathe he can, Dagoth becomes the duo’s next target.  Fearing little, the two streak towards the swirling energies wrapping themselves around the young warlock body.  Before he can even react, one phases out and appears behind the young spellcaster, lifting him off the ground.

“Someone likes power, doesn’t he?” smiles the demon as he points a finger at Dagoth.  Lightning begins to crackle around the finger tip, illuminating the twisted sadist.

“I agree my brother.  Why don’t you give him some of yours?” replies the other.

“Good idea!” the demon shrieks as he stabs his finger into Dagoth’s chest, sending thousands of watts of electricity spiking through his existence.  After a minute of agony, his brother drops the smoking warlock to the ground.  The demons dissipate and the reappear and equal distance from Azagal and Dagoth.

“So, which ones should we kill first?” asks one.

“Ooo, I got an idea.  How about we let them choose?”

“An excellent idea.  So little hu-“

”Wait! I got an even better idea!”

“Oh?”

“Let’s choose for them!”

“Even better!”

The duo splits up.  One hovers over Azagal and the other over Dagoth.  Shadowy wisps of energy peel off from their bodies and quickly drill their way into the two heroes.  Within seconds, the two stand up in a haze, possessed but still lucid enough to know what is going on.

Azagal’s body speaks first.  “This way you get to watch the other die!”

Dagoth responds.  “By the other’s hand!”

==================================

The cavalry descends upon the Alliance’s enemies like a wave of death, slaughtering everything in their path.  Thieves, flayers, and demons are cut down by the mighty scythe of Vlad’s army.  Those lucky enough to survive the initial onslaught find themselves trampled under hundreds of hooves.  A few of the really cursed find themselves impaled by Vlad’s mount.

As the brigade prepares for a second assault, the druids use the blazed trail as a make-shift ritual site and begin to chant in tandem.  The chanting grows louder and louder, even amongst the chaos and soon the sky turns black as massive storm clouds begin to roll in.  Torrents of acid rain descend upon the bloody conflict and thunder crackles in the air.  The sheer stupidity of creating mud to muck up the cavalry is overlooked as lightning begins to streak down and incinerate targets at random.  Bolt after bolt electrocutes combatants while the acid corrodes the armor and skin of others.  The battlefield turns into a cacophony of anguish as screams replace the clinks and clanks of conflict.  While immune to the lightning, the massive storm giants grunt and swat as the rain pricks away at their skin.  Watching their enemies writhe in pain fills the Alliance with pride and they begin fighting with a renewed sense of victory.

“Hohohohoho” a voice booms across the scream and agony.

“St. Nicholas?” asks one of the soldiers as he looks around, before being killed by an errant arrow.

“Fighting storm giants with lightning, eh?  Real smart kids, real smart!”  The druids look around for the voice, but see nothing but the black sky and flashes of lightning dancing across the cloudy blanket.  The lightning stops striking and just… hangs in the sky.  A look of immense worry fills the druids’ eyes.

“If you want to fight with lightning, let me show you how it’s done!” The voice booms like thunder as the lightning in the sky converges on a spot above the druid circle.  A massive bolt slams into the earth, vaporizing all of them.  In their wake stands a storm giant twice as tall as the others, clad in ornate armor of an unknown make with a gold amulet hanging from it’s neck, surveying the battlefield and holding a mighty warhammer.  He lifts up his left leg and peels the remains of the pitiful circle off his boot.  “Insolent tree-huggers!  The dare to command the sky?!”

A small contingent of soldiers attempt to capitalize on the distraction.  The giant drops the hammer on them, leaving behind a gooey paste.

“Who leads this rabble?  Who is worthy to fight the king of the storm giants!?  Who dares to challenge Stratus!?”

The giant’s head turns sharply as a small eruption of fire burns a woman alive.  He watches intently as Jade yanks Blake out of the way of an opportunistic thrall.

“Well, well, well.  Look who’s next to die!” The giant stomps forward, crushing Blake’s would-be assailant under his massive boot.  Terrified, Jade turns to Blake, shouts “…!”, grabs his arm, and begins to run.

===================================

The sphere rolls forward, sending a rainbow of death to crush the flayers and poor children.  The flayers scream and writhe as they are snuffed out by the sphere.  Hundreds of children are wracked with the awesome power of the sphere.  They stagger, they fall, the convulse, and then they die.  But they don’t cry.  They don’t scream.  Those not hurt keep marching forward.

+You’d kill children?  You’re more a monster than I am+ chuckles the omnipresent voice.

As the tattered legion continues to advance, Elvin runs up to guard Mitsu’s body from the advance.  Then the legion stops.

+Are you all that is left?+ asks the voice.  Elvin looks around to find that the Alliance soldiers have fallen back, mortified at the spectacle, their morale complete shattered.

+Worthless+  A psychic wave assaults the minds of those attempting to flee.  Every last one of them falls to the ground, dead.

+As to you two, since you are brave, I’ll give you a warriors death.  Come.  Face your death+

Mitsu and Elvin look for the source of the voice, only to discover a twisted mockery of a person marching towards them.  Tall, naked, and covered in a skin with a texture of brain matter, a morbid smile rests on what appears to be its face.  A golden amulet hangs from a wrinkly neck.

+I know what you are thinking.  What in the Hells am I?+ the thing cackles.  +I’ll tell you.  Unlike my fellows, I’m not content to whittle away my existence lying in some vat.  I took the initiative.  And now, you will get to die by my hands+  The creature clinches a disgusting fist as it inches closer.

I stare at the demon prince and remark, simply:

"If I got a gold piece for every time I was supposed to die in battle, I'd be rich by now."

I grin and let loose a Called Shot to the prince's weapon arm ((assuming he has a weapon)).

As the arrow flies, I start casting Cat's Grace on myself.

Mitsu grins a evil grin.  "You have no clue what I am capable of.  You will soon see, oh yes, you will soon see." Without mercy, compassion, or probably even sanity..she advances on the warped figure.  Any thralls get in her way, children or not, she cuts through without hesitation.  "I know that I would rather die then be your puppet.  I am sure they feel the same.  Come..dance with me.  It will be our last dance."

The first thing she does when getting close to the creature is to try wresting the necklace off it's neck.  She starts to use the tip of her weapon if possible to yank it off, or at least stab at its neck.  Then she realizes it may be cursed and if it comes off and touches somebody it may transfer the personality.  So instead she decides to try to remove the entire head from the body, taking to her longer scimitars to keep the beast at a distance.

I have been silent for long.  The gruesome scenery in front of me halts me from doing anything except for watching the blood-spattered play being manifested in the battlefield.  Different creatures in their own distinct role, play their own style of butchery crafted to assure their victory and as well as their pleasure.

With the whole of my strength, I tried to run towards the battlefield, hoping to involve myself in the flow as my comrades charge and place themselves in to the fight but my feet felt heavy when I tried to lift them up.  I know that fear has swathed me again.  The strain from my latest encounter, still lingers on me.  But the courage of my comrades in the battle field had raised my morale high enough that it had overthrown my fear aside.

I can do it.  I told myself silently as my lips curved slightly trying to smile, giving myself a least of confidence thinking for a nice plan at hand.

I slide my fingers inside the pouch hanging on my right waist and grab the onyx figurine that it holds.  My familiar, Sweetness, would be of great help in this battle like what he had done in many.  He could run around the Storm Giant and make them out of balanced, he could slash on the vulnerable flesh of the ilithids, he could help me buy sometime as I cast spells towards my enemies.

Logically.  I whispered to myself.

Though my feline companion would prove a very nice contrivance for my plan, I do not want to risk him; he’s my only family left.  I slide the figure back and shook my head in disagreement as my memory reminds me on what had happened to Winterfate’s familiar back in Ravenloft.  I would not want the same thing for sweetness.

A bright flash of light not so far from my position had caught my attention.  Dagoth and Azagal were both defenseless against the demons before them.  My eyes widened as I witness how this damnable creatures try to take over my comrades’ body and sanity making them kill each other.  The demons, my most hated and feared creature has come to my way again.  I do plan to avoid them, but I have not been favored to do so, not this time.

“No! Dagoth! Azagal!”, I shouted as I rush towards them, trying to get their attention.

But I am too late, they had been totally possessed.  A decent plan cracked on my mind.  Without hesitations, I continue running towards them.  And when I am close enough, I grab a soft glove situated in one of my pockets and wear them following with the arcane words and gestures that will trigger my desired spell.

I will cast Bigby’s Interposing Hand.

A big grin spread across my face. It was as wide as possible and it wasn't mine either. I felt the joy of an immortal monster coarsing through my body. I suddenly realised what the hell just happened. With whatever connection I had to the real world I directed my minion to my fellow philanthropist. The Skeleton seemed a bit more restrained, which is a good thing. I hoped that the demon inside the captain would be occupied by the captain's will, so that the skeleton could divert him enough and so that i wouldn't be killed by long mechanical arms...

I then tried taking back control, but the stranglehold on my mind was too much. I barely could do anything. I was surprised that the demon would be able to fight back with his attention divided on battle within and and the battle outside.

Suddenly a maniacal cackle was heard. A thought went through my head that wasn’t my thought. I made a movement that wasn’t mine. ‘I wonder whether that arm of his can withstand corrosion.’ Was heard in my head, when great amounts of energy were gathering to my both arms and were forming a helix of acids between my hands ready to be cast in a wide region.

Now time to join the fray, can't let Mitsu have all the fun. As a passing thought the amulet looks suspicious, if I can hack it from his neck it may weaken it.

I almost trip as Jade takes me from harm’s way, though I decide she must have her reasons, and go with. I take a quick glance back, to see why, exactly, we run.  Magnificent is the first thought comes to mind; followed by, horribly magnificent. Before this battle, I had never seen a storm giant before. Now I see, what I could only guess is, their current king, in all his glory. Too bad he wants to kill us.

I stop, and do my best to stop Jade, pulling her towards me, to get her attention, since I am unsure of how loud our surroundings are. I do what I can to cast Haste on us both, and then grab her arm and run, shouting, “Run!” I try to guide us to a place where we can hide for a little while, so I can prepare for the battle I had previously prepared for.

Not really knowing how loud I am, I start shouting at Jade, “I am going to do what I can to take down that giant of a giant! I will probably require assistance, though! Anyone who can provide that assistance from afar!”

After that bit of shouting, I begin casting spells upon myself. First, Greater Heroism, followed by Shapechange, changing into a cloud giant. The attempts at hiding are ruined right then, but I continue going. Next, I cast Enlarge Person, doubling my size. I finish it off, by casting Transformation.

Being without a proper weapon to effectively do battle with, I take one that formerly belong to a, now dead, storm giant.

Talking with the enemy would be pointless, especially since I cannot even hear what his response would be, so I just go at Stratus right away.

Fate

“Well then, allow me to compensate you,” Zarfax halts the arrow in mid-flight, “but first…”  The arrow begins to spin, points, and jets towards Onyx.  The Rune Master has little time to evade, taking the full force of the arrow in his right shoulder.  He drops to his knees and starts coughing up blood.

“Y-you bas” Onyx sputters through clinched teeth.

“Come now, old man.  Your little friend here wants to fight and I just don’t want any distractions.  I don’t believe that is unreasonable.”  The arrogance Zarfax emanates is suffocating.  He pays little attention to the spell Fate casts upon himself.  “Well, where were we?” he asks with boredom.

A quick twist of the wrist sends eight flaming arrows darting towards Fate head.  Moon rushes to intervene but Onyx bathes the ranger in a protective shield, absorbing the missiles.

“Go.  Stop the Highlord.  We’ll deal with this fool” Onyx says dismissively as he grips the protruding shaft and rips it out.  Moon nods and dashes past the demon, paying little heed to his lack of intervention.

Zarfax smiles as a fiery halberd materializes in his right hand. “Foolish woman; like anything she does matters.  Either you kill me and proceed to the summit with the crystals or I kill you and give the crystals to the Highlord.  Either way, you lose.”
===============================================================

Mitsu and Elvin

The abomination deftly sidesteps Mistu’s assault, moving in ways that defy logic.  Bending, twisting, warping, even splitting; the creature’s defense is perfect.

+This is the best of the best?  Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!+  A wrinkly fist drops Mitsu to the ground.  A strange look of pleasure forms where the creature’s mouth should be as its head tilts down.

Elvin’s dagger flies from his phalanges and misses the elder flayers head by about three feet.

+Looks like someone didn’t work in the circus+ the elder flayer taunts.  Its mocking laughter dances in the warriors head.  It stops when a loud bellow belches from behind.  The creature turns to see the small dagger sticking out of a falling giant’s left calf.  It barely manages to escape the increasing shadow plummeting towards the ground.  Its facial features (if they could be called that) contort with jeering.

+A poison dagger?  Hmmm… I didn’t know there was a poison strong enough to kill a giant+ the creatures head rotates to lock eyes (or what look like eyes) with Elvin. +Nice try, vermin, but such sne+

As luck would have it, it wasn’t the dagger that killed the brute, but a shot from a surviving war machine.  The mechanisms projectile failed to detonate properly upon impact, instead detonating after the shock of the giant’s collapse.

Shrapnel slices through the air, sending thousands of metal shards ripping through combatants.  Dozens of northern alliance soldiers, thralls, and shadow thieves are reduced to bloody chunks.  A particularly nasty piece takes a part of Elvin’s right leg off at the knee.

+Ur-urgh… What kind of da-dagger was that!+ demands the creature as grapples with a seven foot-long piece of metal sticking out of its chest.  As it claws at the iron, its thralls begin to shake as the control holding them wanes.
===================================================================

Azagal, Ceres, and Dagoth

“Wait, wait wait,” the warlock interrupts and lets the acid fizzle out.  “Are you familiar with the expression ‘less is more’?”

“Ah, yes.  One of the great philosophies of the eastern men,” replies the warrior.

“I agree.  Now here’s a thought.  I bet we would have more fun if there were less of these two, don’t you?”

“You know what?  I agree, but this one is already missing a little bit,” Azagal’s arm extends in front and whirs as various finger motions are made.

“So what do you propose?”

“I propose we even it out.  Since yours has more, we should make it less.”

“Ah,” Dagoth’s face smiles, “now there’s a good idea.”  Dagoth’s body walks slowly towards Azagal’s body.  The warlock holds out his right arm.  “I think this would be a good place to start.”

“I concur,” smiles Azagal’s face as the mechanical arm raises and foot-long claws spring from the finger tips.  “This might hurt a little bit.”

Before the Azagal can chop off Dagoth’s arm, an ethereal hand springs forth from the ground and knocks the two possessed away from each other.  The demons try to go around the hand but are rebuked each time.  Jumps, feints, dashes; all are deflected by the glowing fist.

“DAMN YOU, WIZARD!” screams Dagoth as he wrestles with the hand.

“YOU’RE DEAD!” yells Azagal as he lunges for Ceres with his metal claw.
========================================================

Vlad and Blake

Startus's rampage is unstoppable.  Thieves are crushed, flayers electrocuted, and soldiers are smashed.  Even demons fall before his might, licked away by electrical tongues.

Despite this, Vlad's forces were loyal and the second charge began.  A wave of lances crashed towards his shin but was utterly stopped as a massive foot crushed half the charge.  Vlad and a handful of surviving troops find themselves bucked and crashing towards the ground.

"Pathetic.  Absolutely pathetic."  Stratus laughs thunder through the sky as the general and his troops rise to their feet.  One attack... In one attack the calvary was reduced to thirteen men.  The general's unicorn, a mythical and powerful beast was not so easily beaten.  The beast quickly rose to its hooves and stabbed a golden horn into the giant's leg.

"ARGHHHH!!!" The Cloud King screams.  In retaliation, his massive hammer homes in on the unicorn's head.  The magical beast evades and gallops towards her master.

"Vlad, Vlad!" Jades shouts as she sprints for the general, killing a few unlucky fools in her way with savage thrusts.  Stratus looks down at the interloper and points his finger.  Lightning begins to crackle at the tip and quickly fizzles out as Status's warhammer rises to parry.

"YOU DARE ATTACK YOUR KIGN?!" demands Stratus, peering into the eyes of the storm giant assaulting him.  He drives the hammer down, knocking his assailant off balance and to the side.  "No, you're no cloud giant.  You're an imposter.  A mage.  I'll have fun killing you!"

With frightening speed, Stratus swings his hammer towards Blake's face.

My body started shaking and quivering and a small trace of blood started to leave my nose as the struggle within manifested. This wasn't how a human body (demonic or not) was supposed to be treated. A wry smile spread across my face. 'I really hate that smile, you know?' I uttered through my own mouth. "What?!" the demon exclaimed, surprised at the fact that I still could do something, and my mind was being pushed back by the creature's will. If it was distracted or severely weakened, I could probably banish it. "You will die, young warlock! And so will your friend. Now... what was that fancy trick you used against me, again? It was damned cold that's what I remember." The creature expressed.

'I remember' the subconsciusness told me. The demon ploughed his hands through the earth. I felt an eery breeze pass by, while the words of arcane plees went over his lips. Suddenly, a burst of ice out of the ground held me and everything situated fifty feet away from me in a deadly grip. Chilling tentacles were just awesome. The demon did not direct the spell and lost control of it, making the ice shoot of and hold everything in random directions.

"What is this!" The demon screamed. "I can't focus." The creature uttered in a panick. The ice seemed to flow around and underneath us, lashing us and keeping us up in the air. It's nearlt impossible to redirect it, since he would need to contact the soil again to do so. 'How's your concentration?' I taunted while I suddenly felt a harsh lash against my back. I at least prevented myself from harming the one who saved me from mutilation and retirement, I thought as I could smell the blood dripping down to the ice from my face.

‘Oh dear!’ quickly came to mind as the hammer went flying towards my face. With all the speed I could come up with, I barely duck under the beheading blow. I feel the hammer brush past my hair. Wind blows past my face, being disturbed by the swing. Of all the times I am thankful for a single spell, haste gets my gratitude in this instance.

I take a step back as I rise to my full height. Not being able to see what’s above has great disadvantages, and I’d rather not be there to receive that which the king thinks I should get.

Being refocused on the battle at hand, and unable to use any magic, I go in to strike. Weapons swing, grappling holds are lock, and even tackles are made as needed. Anyone unfortunate enough to be underneath, when mountains fall from the sky, is crushed, just as others have been before.

I look at Onyx's wounded shoulder and mutter to myself:

"Great...arrows aren't going to work. He's expecting me to use my bow."

I look at Onyx again and then at the demon prince.

"Unless...."

I then start chanting Call Nature's Ally IV and summon a shadow wolf.

"Hope this works."

I cast Animal Growth on the shadow wolf, causing it to double in size and then send it off at the prince.

I then use Rapid Shot, shooting multiple arrows at the demon prince at the same time.

Expecting him to block or otherwise divert the arrows again, I'll take this time to morph into my wolf form.

((Lots going on, eh? ))

Mitsu doesn't let the warped creature have time to recover.  With weapons in hand she starts cutting and slicing at the creature with as much speed and strenth as she can muster.  Maybe being wounded the creature will not be able to dodge so easily.  Again she is aiming at the head..or at least what she believes is the head.

First chance I’m going to quickly hop back into the saddle. Following that we’re going to ride to meet Jade and I extend an arm to hoist her up onto Talia’s back.

“Jade, I’ve got one of my trademark bad ideas.”

I shift into winter-werewolf form. “You’re gonna need to take the reins because at some point I’m going to be changing rides. Once I’m off, round up whatever horsemen who still have horses and go around thunderhead(Stratus) with a loose raider’s circle. As for what I’ll be doing, I think I’m gonna see if I can give him a bad case of frostbite. *I wave a claw in front of Jade* Hopefully these things are good for climbing.”

I lean forward and talk briefly to the unicorn, “you take good care of Jade while I’m gone, ya hear?”

Ideally, I’d like to deliver the shot to somewhere critical. But if it just isn’t possible, anything that will slow Stratus will have to suffice.

As we start galloping I ask Jade, “Hey, where’s that alcoholic sister of yours? I don't hear any singin...”

Dagoth, Ceres, and Azagal

"Snap out of it, fool!" Azagal's mouth spat.  A bloody claw rescinds from Dagoth's back.  "Like either of them is strong enough to stop us."

"Sorry.  That little brat is fighting back hard.  It's annoying," Dagoth seethes.  The demon is clearly having difficulties controlling his puppet.  He curses as the warlock's limbs stiffen and become unresponsive.  Only after sending mental jolts into Dagoth's mind is he able to awkwardly move towards Ceres.  "Damnit.  This one has a strong will."

"I see.  Then I think you should find a new toy.  That voluptuous mageline sures looks tasty, doesn't she?"

"Hehehehehehe." Dagoth grins sickly and then looks sad.  "Oh, but mother won't let me have a new toy.  I already have one."

"But if the toy were to be broken..." Azagal smiles, claws extending.

"...I could get a new one," Dagoth laughs as Azagal's iron digits rip through his intestines.  A shadowy vapor quickly escapes his mouth and beelines towards Ceres.  Dagoth's body hits the ground, lying still in a pool of crimson.

====================================================================

Fate

The prince barely lifts an eyebrow.  "Interesting."

The massive shadow wolf rapidly advances.  The prince raises his left hand lazily as the bow is plucked.  As the arrows fly free, the wolf suddenly doubles in size again.  The incredibly bulky beast doesn't seem to notice and maintains velocity, maw open.  It lunges.

"Bye," the prince says with a snear.

The arrows puncture the wolf's vitals, killing it instantly.  The devil has little time to gloat as a second wolf vaults off the corpse.  A split-second later, a drooling mouth clamps through the prince's arm, shattering bone and drawing blood.

"DAMN YOU!" Zarfax shouts as he raises his arm.  A rapid descent slams Fate into the ground and forces his grip to weaken.  The ranger is tossed easily to the side.  The demon quickly regains his composure and rubs his arm, only to be struck by three different arrows.  The fiend lets out a loud growl.

Moon smirks.  "Let your guard down."

"Indeed."  The demon's fangs clinch as he yanks out the missiles.  "Certainly is a funny way for you to spend your last seconds but it does beat what the Highlord has in mind."  Zarfax's halbred glows furiously, causing eruptions of fire around the mock-battlefield.  The agonizing heat happily strangles the three heroes as steam peels from their skin.

"Damnit," Onxy gasps.  "We don't have time for this."

====================================================================

"Estimation?" a stern voice asks.

"3 minutes, my lord" replied the automaton.  Several such constructs fluttered about the room, adjusting levers and valves, releasing and compressing steam.  The room was sweltering but the lord remained unphased.  Cool, collected, completely calm.  Something big was about to happen but it hardly seemed to matter to the likes of him.

"Excellant.  Begin countdown."

Vlad and Blake

Jade looks worried.  "Neither do I... but we have more important things to worry about.  LOOK OUT!!!"  Blake almost crushes the two underfoot after receiving a heavy blow from the giant king.  The unicorn swerves to the left and adjusts its course, still aiming for Stratus.

"Stupid wizards.  Just because you can turn into a storm giant, doesn't mean you can fight like one!"  A devastating left doubles Blake over, forcing him to a lone knee.  Excruiating pain floods his sense; broken ribs pass it around.  Desperately, Blake lunges for the warrior, knocking him off balance with a clumsy tackle.

"NOW!" Jade screams, reins in hand.  With the signal, Vlad leaps and grabs onto an enormous shinguard.  The gnat goes unnoticed.

Stratus struggles with the imposter for a moment before sending him off with a kick.  Blake's body falls onto several hundred soldiers underneath, killing them instantly.

"You annoy me."  The last word is emphasized by a stomp on the right shoulder.  It hurts.  A lot.  Pinning Blake down, Stratus raises his mighty warhammer and slams it down upon the wizard's left shoulder.  The sound of splinttering bone brings a smile to Stratus's face.  The life begins to fade from Blake.

"This is what the Highlord feared?  Pathetic."

"BLAKE!  BLAKE!"  Jade's screaming goes mostly unheard as everyone's attention is brought skyward.  Hundreds of feet in the air a massive, white object plummets towards the battlefield.  Everyone but Stratus and the giants begin to withdraw.

"What's this?" the king asks.

The erratic crashes hard into the ground, drenching everyone in dust and debri.  Those stupid enough to not move are flattened beneath the impact.  As the dust settles, the object becomes clear.  A fantastic ivory tower stands defiantly before the king of the storm giants.

"So you finally came, did you?  Too little, too late."  Stratus mocks.

An arrogant tone replies.  "I think not, oaf."  The tower lets out a bellow of steam as pieces of stone begin to protrude, twist, and reposition.  Entire segments of the tower fold and circle, hovering in mid-air, awaiting instruction.  The upper half of the tower seperates from the lower half and slides neatly next to the base.  Everyone watches in awe as the the bizarre movements unfold.  Two massive pillars form from the base, a larger block rests upon them, and two other pillars fall at the block's side.  The tower little resembles a tower anymore.  Instead an ivory giant, of equal height, stands before the powerful Stratus.

"Oh, I wouldn't say that."  The golem's arms rise and point 10 massive, steaming digits at the king.

Mitsu and Elvin

+What do we have here?+ The elder brain ponders while dodging the ferocious onslaught of Mitsu and Elvin.  The creature's baffling speed gives the appearance it isn't even trying to evade the attacks.  All of its brainy matter is focused on the massive white golem looming over the battle.

The nearby soldiers fight with renewed energy, driving back the flayers.  Enchanted, they hack, stab, thrust, hew, and crusht he squid-like creatures.  Saphire does little to conceal her smile as she sings a firey ballade.  She's succeeding.  The chaos is too much for the flayers.  They miss, miscalculate, misjudge; fail.  Dozens fall before steel and spell.  Even the mindless thralls are cut down.

+WHAT?!+ the brain snaps back to attention, becmming fully aware of his brethren's imminent defeat.  He strikes out but misses the ranger and runemage.  The passionate melody flows through them; the boost allowing them to outmanuver the freak.  Quickly the brain is put on the defensive and losing ground.

+NO!+ The brain shouts as Mitsu's blade rakes across its head.  Psionic backlash bleeds out, blasting the heroes several feet away.

Saphire smiles.  "You're all thought and no action, freak."

+STUPID GIRL!+ The freak pivots towards her.  The burst of psionic energy is fatal.  The song stops.  The bard crumbles to the ground, dead.  The soldiers instantly become disorganized and the flayers rally.  The elder brain trembles at the exertion as it returns to Mitsu and Elvin.  +You.  You two are NEXT!+

"Well," I thought, "A song would come in handy right now. Rally the troops, cause some confusion amidst the enemy, maybe even put this big baby to sleep."

I continued my ascent up the giant taking care to use the armor as much as possible to lessen the chances of him becoming aware of my presence.

"Now when I get cold, what body part gives me the most problems..."
