Comparison of Campaigns

The Heroes of Might and Magic V series was obviously mainly dependent on the campaigns in it. I don't htink Nival expected the buyers to indulge themselves much in single player deathmatches, and they obviously screwed up the multiplayer. But the campaigns were something amazing.

Let me begin by sharing my feelings on these three new campaigns. They were great. Overall, it seemed to be more of a Rated E version of the old campaigns, but that's because in these new ones we see cinematic effects rather than pop-up boxes which you have to read. Which is great. Because it helps you get into the feeling.

Now the Campaigns themselves come in.

First there was the original Heroes of Might and Magic V. The story was not too great, and overall it felt like a series of real easy skirmishes. The Haven campaign was a wate of time. I felt somewhat deprived of the excitement having found that the entire first campaign was created as an introductory campaign. Why didn't they just make a Tutoial level instead? So the game lacked that. The stories were deprived of their value because none o the characters could talk, but they could all communicate telepathically and you could hear them do so. But there were some epic battles.

The Sylvan campaign was constructed amazingly. And the Necropolis campaign wasn't half bad either. But the rest were only mediocre. The Academy camapgin was incomplete, seeing as the last level was just a series of battles, so again I felt I wasn't getting the most out of it.

Then Hammers of Fate came out, and let me say this right off the start, I think it was the best one. While the gameplay itself needed things that would be introduced in the next installment, the story and campaign was amazing. I first fell in love with the whole thing during the first level when I heard the amazing music. Because it was amazing. It is a shame that the developers couldn't design music of similar beauty for all factions. Though the Dwarves too had some nice music going.

The lovely new grounds, that is snow and beautiful underground structures likewise set the mood. Wulfstan's interesting accent also contributed well. And the somewhat sad ending made for an impressive finale. The only drawback was, it was short. But definetly worth $30 that I paid for it.

Tribes of the East was very good, but had a slow start. At least they made a Tutorial level this time. The Necromancer campaign was boring, and while in Hammers of Fate you had to wait to use the new faction too, at least the first campaign in HoF was good. Arantir has an extremely monotonous storyline that involbes him walking and talking and sacrificing allies to open portals. The conclusion of his campaign was nice, and there was one beautiful level where the night grew darker as you progressed. But other than that, it was nothing special.

The Orc campaign, however, picked up nicely. While it began quite boring, you could easily make your way through the first few levels anyway, so it wasn't that bad. The final level was a nice sized map and overall very impressive. Also, the fact that this was one of the first times I could use an ultimate skill without cheats helped ease up the mood.

Zehir's campaign was a nice mix of everything, which means that come the level with the Dwarves, I fell in love again. A beautiful landscape of snow, and a well constructed underground cavern made the visuals impressive. Other goodies included the fun fight against the Demons in the Dutchies, which was made fun since you could gather any amount of resources before actually fighting. Though it started off bad, Zehir's campaign ended nicely with a mix of everything.

So overall here are my thoughts. The first game wasn't as good as it could be, the second game fixed almost all the mistakes of the first one, and the third one just made the gameplay a little more fun.

what i think is this:

Haven campaign------->6/10, because its mainly a training campaign with not much appliance of homm5 experience( since its the beggining)

Inferno campaign-----------> 9/10 excellent story line, one of my favourite campagns because everyone is after you, even your own people (Inferno)

Necropolis campaign----------> 8/10. pretty good story line, interesting way where you get to work with the griffin empire trying to revive nicolai

Dungeon Campaign------------> 9.8/10 pretty much the best campaign in heroes of might and magick . now im not reall much of a dungeon person, but this campaign is too awsome for words, your just gonna have to play it

well, sorry but i havent yet finished the rest of the campaigns, im working on the sylvan campaign, which has the best cutscene/ intro with isabel and markal ressuructing nicolai.

I have to agree on most things,Hammers of Fate was really amazing, and had everything needed for sucsess-mystical and secretive storyline, new characters, the plot of Biara corrupting the Griffin Empire, and Freyda + Ylaya's characters were the most important features which made me fell in love with it.One thing i dint like though,in the last mission, when u had to care for five heroes with lame-o armies, with the enemies constantly coming....
HOMMV original campaign was AMMMAZZZING on storyline, plots, twists and characters but just O.K. on gameplay-i mean i bored to DEATH in Sylvan campaign,Inferno stortline was too long for 5missions,dungeon storytelling was B.A.D.,and the Academt campaign, when almost everything happened, nothing acutally happened-yeah they defeated the enemy, cleansed Isabel(or so they tought)but if taking into account how many things have happened in it,it should have lasted 10missions at least,it was really truncated.Forgot to mention-hearing Markal's ammmmazing and excrrrrushiating accent made my day....
TOTE-was fine,orcs were interesting untill i reached to their campaign.They are sooo boring,soo primitive,like animals!whatever...
Arantir-made my day once more, story was quite mediocre, but playing it was fun.
Zehir-he is my fav hero, and playing Flying to the Rescue was a joy.Except before i got the 3.1 Patch- "A Flamboyant Exit" was bugged an i couldnt pass it-made me cry 100000 times, not able to see the ending... :-)

I have yet to play through the ToTE or HoF expansions, but as for the original HoMM, I have to agree that the Inferno and Dungeon campaigns were by far the best of the lot.

I only just installed the game about a week ago, though I must have bought it a year ago or more...just never got around to it.  Now I can see why.

I'm still stuck slogging through the Haven campaign, and not particularly happy about it.  Not even close.  (4th scenario, I think?  The one where Godric has to go and get Nicolai and Isabel is left to deal with a RIDICULOUS army under the command of Agrael.)  I haven't completed it, mostly because for me to have any chance whatsoever to defeat the infernals I'm going to have to spend literally hours building up an army.

And when I say stuck, I do mean stuck...can't play any other campaigns until this one is complete.  I'm seriously thinking of just ignoring H5 completely and jumping immediately to HoF.  Nor am I thrilled about it.

Any advice?  Am I supposed to just whiz through things as fast as possible?  Will I have anywhere close to the same chance I have now against the demon-things?  (Which is to say, slim to none...my biggest major stack was something on the order of 300 griffins, fighting 300 archdevils, 5000 hell hounds, 4K succubi, etc.)

It would also be nice to be able to post a new topic on here instead of having to answer someone else's topic with my question, but whatever...

...so I find a walkthrough that says I'm not supposed to kill Agrael's army and that Nicolai is supposed to die.  Which I do, and that unlocks the next campaign.  (That was the 5th scenario, not the 4th, btw.)

What kind of sadists TELL you that you're supposed to get to Nicolai, which automatically requires fighting Agrael's army, yet the only way to complete the mission is NOT to fight the demons?  And in case there's any doubt, I have the latest version, 1.6.

I'm really not very impressed with this game at all, so far.  It's a scaled-down version of Heroes 3 with elements of Final Fantasy thrown in (cut scenes, primarily).  And the game designers can't seem to get out of their own way long enough for the player to have a balanced play experience.

Unfortunate but the original does suck in almost every possible way. That game was rendered obsolete when the others were released, there is no actual reason to play it. Even the campaigns can be downloaded for tote.

As for requiring a post before you can make a thread the reason was to combat bots. It's a long story.
