3D Templates

It's been more than ten years since I've used AutoCad, and even longer since I've done solid modeling. So I decided I needed some practice.

I originally was just curious if the Cube template was really a cube, but did some other templates as well. Maybe I'll do more in the future and also add some more info to these.

The spheres are the zones and the rods are the connections. Zones of the same color have the same treasures, but may not have the same mines. Connections of the same color have the same guard strength. There is no relationship between the zone color and connection color.

(Note: Zones and connections of the same color only apply to a single template. Colors in one template may not be the same as colors in another template.)

The cone connections are "wide" zones which means the two zones are essentially one big open zone, but with different attributes for each section. The connection between the zones is usually unguarded.

The size of the spheres is the relative size in the template. But we all know it can vary a LOT. So the comparative size is only a very rough idea of the actual size of one zone compared to another.

Very nice job here Binabik. Makes the idea of the templates much more visual. Adding the mines is a good idea aswell. If you have some more templates, keep them coming.

The mines don't look right on this template, especially the extra mercury for zone 1. And notice how zones 15 and 19 both have mercury and sulfur. It seems like one should have gems and crystal.

I dont know whats the point to have the scheme in 3D, since the game is in 2D.

For me its more clear the 2D draw like this:

Do you have any requests? I have plans for doing all the TOH templates plus a few from the other tourney sites. Maybe some CD templates also like 8MM6.

I also plan on adding more infomation to the ones I've already done. I want to add zone guard info and zone richness/treasure info. I just have to figure out the best way to do it without making things look clutered.

First, are you aware that this is all H3 stuff? The templates are files used to make random maps. When the random map generator creates a map, it looks at the template to determine things like the number of zones, how they are connected, how rich they are, the number and type of buildings in the zone, etc.

At the bottom of this page you can find links to some more threads about templates.

I was just thinking that I should do some more. I'll have to look, but I think I already have a few that didn't get posted the first time.

I also never figured out a way to add a lot more info without it getting cluttered and hard to read. I want to add town info, treasure values and guard strength.

Very nice job, congrats bud! Gives you a more visual idea of the connexion between players and how the map look like! I will deffinetly print them tomorrow to have them close when playing a specific template

If you want to print maps for use in a game you might consider using the maps at those Russian sites like the one liophy linked to. For a quick reference they are probably easier to use and won't take nearly as much ink to print. You can type over the address in his link to get the other templates. I think most of the CD templates are there.

I plan on adding more info to mine and they should be better if you want to study them in more detail, or use them to get ideas for new templates. Mostly I did them because I think they look cool.

I've been working on True Random and Dwarven Tunnels, but I've been having some problems with them. Does anyone get a high percentage of bad maps with True Random?

Does anyone have any requests for templates?

I don't know what any of this means lol, but.............. I am quite profficient with CAD 3D Modeling You guys need help with anything (I'm best with AutoCAD but I do have and know 3D studio max)
