Heroes can die just as every else. In fact it is often the way someone dies which decides if they become a hero to the afterworld or not.

If the AI is not tough enough for you, then play the game on iron-man and with a no reload self-imposed rule during each scenario. Try the AI on champion difficulty as well.

If you still think it is not tough enough then try to beat other players scores on the exisiting maps or other custom campaigns.

If that does not work for you then try the Bob the Peasant Map. If you want increased difficulty beyond 50% chance then add more enemy Bobs who wants to defeat Bob.

HoMM4 diffently average

There are some good ideas but in my eyes it doesn't get better then just the ideas.

Moveable heroes, no thank you
Choosing between creatures - good idea but HoMM5 way is way better
The skill choice alright a better way of thinking then HoMM3 but again HoMM5 got the best solution.
The graphics is weird in HoMM4 never liked them and never will.
Gameplay is bad, I just don't understand why... But I don't play it anymore anyway..

I think if you cheat it gets better and I know I only posted some negative stuff but I still think it is average...

The Good

I feel challenged, Heroes 5 felt way to easy and in this Heroes to play on Expert Level you have to have your game tight

Mages- I love that you must be special in Nature Spells to be able to cast them, in H5 you can cast level 2 nature spells with no abilities in it.

I like that skills level all the way up to Grandmaster.

I like that heroes battle personally, just adds an extra element to gameplay

The Bad

Heroes do not have an unique feel to them at all. It is like all Haven Heroes are the same.

Graphics are bad but they were good for when the game was made.

I think there are way to many adventure potions, it just gets crazy

I liked HommIV alot
Mainly because you could make a real Avatar:> My Warlord walked to a titan and kick him despite having an Axe in his hand, and he kicked twice witch each strike killikg 4 titans
Och and the magic was the best. The star system was quite good allthoug in Homm5 its quite simmilar. The combination of Necropolis and Inferno was bad Have you seen anyone who used Venom Spawns??

Well, HommIV does differ from the previous ones. But this doesn't mean that it's completely bad. Personally, I like some of its new ideas such as the new hero skills, the hero in combat, creatures and spells differ quite a lot as well etc.

This difference makes H4 unpopular among people and causes itself to be disliked but I think difference doesn't equal badness.

For me, Homm IV is the best homm game ever.
I dunno, but having more heroes in the combat is just woah! Thats what I love mostly in hommIV.
It's simple, the music is just awesome, and with multiple heroes in a team it feels like some RPG-game
But yeah, srsly. I dislike hommV, because it's a mixture of some D&D lore with fugly WoW-looking elves =( Thats why I refuse to play elves/dark elves in homm V (Go wizards... *.*)
And Homm III's storyline was just too confusing.
So yeah, I can play Homm IV to death and never get bored of it

The game itself is ok, but not as good as heroes 3 and 5.
The maximum tier should be higher than 4, and they shouldn't have created two of each tier in towns (Mixing Neropolis with inferno is simply a crime, and dungeon with swamp too.)

There where only one thing about heroes IV that heroes 3 and 5 didn't have! Something very important! The MapEditor!!
The H4 map editor is the best, and most interesting editor so far in the heroes history.
If they have made a editor like that to H5, it would have been simply one of the best games for people that likes fantasy and creation.

I refuse to play any type of elf especially dark ones (Dark emo/Homo)
Anyway, somebody said something abut mixing dungeon AND swamp in HommIV was bad... WELL in Homm2 Hydras were in the warlocks castle (a.k.a Dungeon) so they just came back to the roots.

Yes HOMM 4 is succesful because i love it and just bought it

The battles are more realistic, because of
*silmantanious retaliation,
*you can not shoot to creature stack that is behind another, and you can defend yours in that way
*the sieges are sometimes a real bloodbath because of that towers
*heroes on the battlefield

The skill system and hero classes - simple to understand and beautiful. You can finnaly create your very own custom hero with his own additonal bonuses.

Flagging random resources generators YES YES YES( why in HOMM 5 you can't )

I can not say anything about an AI because i am beginner

The most important that this game is different, innovative and there lies it's strenght

Well that fight is a ~100% win if played well, you obviously missed some fine battletactics. Of course if enemy peasant were played by another human, chances were 50-50%, but this way they aren't.

I wrote ~100% because if you're really bad with rolls, you might lose, haven't checked it. I'm not sure if you can get 5 hits in before your enemy does 4 (you probably can... but I need to check it).

edit: checked it. that's a 100% win vs the AI. between humans that fight is a stalemate. I can describe you the proper play, if you need me to

That's because you never really figured out how to level heroes properly.

This is how you do it:
1) Keep your heroes (yes, aim for 5) as close to each other in levels as possible.
2) With one hero always concentrate on a set of skills.
Say you decide your druid will be a GM nature caster (natural choice). That means
a) don't pick any(!) other skills before you have GM nature (not even combat, nothing).
b) never take the 4th skill (summoning in this case) and
c)use every oppurtunity to give him extra nature skills (there are some adv map objects you can use for it - but timing of their use is important

Usually you're ready with your GM hero on lvl11-13 (14 in worst case), then you can start working up his combat skills, then pick extras maybe (that are free on the map)

3) yes I meant you don't pick combat even. learn to protect your heroes properly in fights
4) get a pathfinder hero to speed up movement of your whole superhero stack
5) if you need to get a scouting based hero as for example haven, you probably have to buy an archer, then get him some scouting altars/beastmaster's hut or what's his name, THEN focus on scouting skills. less efficient because:
6) The main idea behind not picking any skill out of your plan is to make sure you do get offered a skill useful for your develoopment every time

OO yes i forgot that there is no Memory Mentor Like in HOMM V ToTE once i picked one skill to many..... I will have to live with it in the whole campaign

For me I was schoced that very rarely you are offered with different skill(not like a;ways one new in HV). But now i see the point here.

these are what I like from this game:
- its concept that heroes can wander around the map without losing even if they down have any towns yet.
- its concept that creatures can wander around the map without heroes to lead or guide them.

and I think HOMM IV is succesful enough, because it is unique. its predecessors didn't have this kind of concept before.

I view it as an entirely different game, kind of like the foreign cousin to HOMM.  In that light, I think it is a good game, not superb mind you, but good nonetheless.

If we knew the goals of the game makers we would knew if they realy succeded:

- origianlty success
- remake fail
- music fail
- graphics fail/success
- gamplay success
- AI fail

and so on... someone will add something..
