Cohesiveness: 9/10. It's like a necropolis no? you can throw in anything which is undead and it will be coherent.
Imagination: 11/15. A dark abyssal faction, dark isn't original, abyssal neither, both at the same time is a bit. The ether idea is interesting.
Back story: 4/10. Was there a story? I think I read a description, but not a story.
Battle facets: 7.5/10. Interesting idea with the ether, but I don't fully understand. Basically it allows your creatures to cast spells, right? And the power of the spells is the same whatever the level of the unit is? Most units have the choice of using ether either for the racial ability, or its own abilities, but not all of them (that should be all of them imo, because you are more likely to use the racial ability with a creature which doesn't need ether for its own abilities)
otherwise I see no flying creatures and the paralyzing shot ability is imba imo.
there's also a nice number of new abilities.
Discretionary: 4/5 Many of the other factions have way more contents.
35.5/50 I've just decided to remark you. you gain points because of the many new abilities. too bad there is no story.

It was not meant as an offend. My own history/background is poor too. But for example you could have added a brief description of the lifestyle or why they are now a more or less important faction in the world. They are here as a playable race so that means they aren't so hideous and secretive anymore. Or maybe someone has discovered them and now they are in a defending situation... or something like that. Their role in current and following events...

Aye, I understand now. Thanks for clarifying. And Fauch's score hurt me inside.

Tobius's rating
The Abyss
Cohesiveness(3+1)=4 An evil underwater race is not really fitting into the world of HoMM
Imagination(3+2+2)=8 Seems to use almost the same game mechanics as Heroes 5 does
Back Story(1+0)=1 Sadly, there is no real story at all
Battle Facets(2+3)=5
Discretionary: +1 for introduction of ether; -1 for no emblem
Total Score=17
How I graded these:
Cohesiveness (Internal Coherence [1-5]+HoMM Compatibility [1-5])
Imagination (Creativity [1-5]+Innovations [1-5]+Originality[1-5])
Back Story (How well it expands on one of the HoMM universes [1-5]+How interesting it was to me [1-5])
Battle Facets (Variety [1-5]+Inventive Aspects [1-5])
Discretionary (Bonus for exceptional efforts[1-5])

The Abyss:
FriendofGunnar
Cohesiveness: 7/10 There doesn't seem to be a unifying theme to the abilities of the creatures. Also, how do the mystics fit in with everything?
Imagination:11/15 It's a unique faction idea.
Back story: 5/10
Battle facets: 8/10 The best feature, although the over-complexity might actually suck fun from the game, instead of adding to it.
Discretionary: 0/5 no pics or descriptions.
31
Kookastar
Cohesiveness: 8 points
Imagination/creativity/originality/wow factor: 12 points – great start and interesting descriptions, I could smell the town.
Back story 5 points – they need a history 
Battle facets: 7 – would be fun to play, too much magic though/ a little overpowered.
Discretionary: 3 – I liked the intro
Total: 35

Cohesiveness(max 10) : 5
Creativity (max 10): 8
Backstory (max 10): 3
Battle Facets (max 15): 12

I liked the faction as long as it was evolving… extremely innovative shroud racial

Guest Judge's Score : 33.50 (Judges grades are weighed differently depending on how many factions they graded)
Judges Score: (31 + 35 + 33) / 3 = 33.00
