Mark, Mina, Jack:

"Oh. That can happen?" That did sound neat. Mina wondered if Natu...? But he was in the Pokemon Center recovering. And then again, did she really want him telling her directly what a terrible trainer she was for letting him get hurt? She shoved that train of thought off the tracks and returned to the conversation. "Cool!"

((I'm going with two hours, since that's what Kirlia needs to level up.))

Mina stepped out for a moment part way through the training, complaining of a stomach ache, and came back shortly with some fruit and cheese for both the humans and Pokemon.

Kirlia
Type: Psychic
Ability: Synchronize
Gender: Female
Level: 24
Held Item: Salac Berry
Stats—
HP: 59
Attack: 29
Def: 29
Sp. Attack: 43+7
Sp. Def: 38+5
Speed: 36+7

Moves:
Growl
Confusion
Double Team
Teleport
Lucky Chant
Magical Leaf

Magikarp
Type: Water
Ability: Swift Swim
Gender: Female
Level: 17
Held Item: None
Stats—
HP: 39
Attack: 13
Def: 28
Sp. Attack: 15
Sp. Def: 17
Speed: 37

Moves:
Splash
Tackle

After two hours, Magikarp could manage an almost straight line on her own in what Mina considers to be reasonable speed. Kirlia doesn't seem to have much luck talking to Magikarp (as far as the humans can tell; Magikarp having no neck or hands means her range of expression is limited to flopping and saying 'Karp!' with varying degrees of energy) but she's managed to lift things in patterns and can keep them in those patterns with slightly less concentration now.

For the trainers' part, Mina was now familiar enough with the song to know the words and not run out of her range in awkward places. The two of them actually managed to draw polite applause from a passing trainer and both can be reasonably confident about getting through the song tonight. Mina was also getting the beginning of an idea...

((+1 level for Kirlia
+2 levels for Magikarp

If you guys want to go longer let me know, and Alkar if you're training a Pokemon too let me know which.))

Giving kirlia the polite applause that she was due for figuring out her own training regiment and sticking to it, Mark would take a bite of cheese and put away his phone. Looking back at Mina, he would ask, "So, we're sounding alright. Want to train with Jack a little longer, a-and then head off to the contest hall for the amateur sing off of the century?"

Matt:

You watch the work at the Blenders for a while; there appear to be a few tricks to it, based on the bits of conversation you overhear:

"You wanted to do Sweet Poffin next right? Lemme see if I have any Pecha Berries left..."

"It won't be as Spicy if you use those Chesto Berries, they're kinda Dry..."

"No! I told you not to put in an Oran Berry, I already put one in! Now it's ruined!" (This from a blender whose batter is issuing a great deal of foul-smelling smoke.)

The people practicing on stage are harder to figure out; the trainer with the Butterfree is complaining that it's attacks aren't beautiful enough, though there's nothing obviously wrong with the powders that you can see. The Makuhita's beat you recognize after a moment as belonging to a children's cartoon; an onlooker calls out to its trainer to tell him his Pokemon looks cute, earning an approving thumbs-up from both human and Pokemon.

Taillow gets your attention after you've made another circuit of the building. After a bit of Pokemon pantomime you gather she wants you to follow her, so you do; she guides you backstage where you find a man in a Breeder's apron—and fire-resistant gloves, judging by the scorch marks on them—with his hands on his hips and the sort of expression on his face usually reserved for parents with misbehaving children. A Numel is at his side and looks equally annoyed; both are focusing on a spot up in the rafters. Why is apparent after a moment; a loud, happy shriek bursts from the darkness and something vaguely reddish swings briefly into view before vanishing into the dark again.

"I mean it!" The Breeder calls up to the Pokemon in an I'm-going-to-count-to-three voice. "Get back down here!"

"Sure, let's do that." Mina agreed. She was getting the beginnings of an idea and wanted to give it more time to simmer...as well as give Magikarp a little more attention.

((It's currently 2PM, how much longer do you want to train for?))

Mark, Mina, Jack:

"It starts at 8, I think," Mina replied. "Two hours sounds good." They could, after all, train any time they liked, but being in a friendly town was a rarer occurrence. The boys might have things they wanted to do to prepare for their next foray into Bandra territory. Speaking of which...

Mina glanced around to see if there was anyone else around. Seeing no one, she addressed Jack. "Also, we were going to bring this up later, but since we're all together now...Mark and I got word of stolen Pokemon being funneled up into the mountains, and we were going to go check it out. Do you want to come?"

It wouldn't be very nice to drag Jack into hostile territory without giving him a chance to buy supplies, or possibly he might want to rearrange his team. Mina wasn't sure if he needed to do either, but figured it was better to give him the option than not.

----------------

Matt:

Taillow swoops up to coax the other Pokemon down, but the youngling doesn't seem interested in listening. Rather the contrary, it darts down on a length of curtain cord, yanks a feather out of Taillow's rump and darts back up out of sight, taunting her with what is unmistakably some variant of 'neener-neener-neen-er!' The brief glance you get of the creature confirms it has two arms and legs, and paler patches on its hands and feet, all of which vanish back into the rafters as Taillow - now very irritated - gives chase.

"Chimi," the Breeder scolds, then both he and the Numel sigh. "I knew bringing them all was going to be trouble."

Matt:

"I appreciate the help, but he used Taunt on your Taillow, that's not going to—"

Gastly has just faded out of view when the Pokemon in the rafters leaps onto Taillow's back with an exuberant yell. Taillow lets out of squawk of mingled outrage and indignation as she unexpectedly has a great deal of weight on her back and the two Pokemon plummet. For about fifteen feet—then whatever-it-is falls off and Taillow is able to correct her flight. The other Pokemon's yell turns into a panicked screech and some part of its body bursts into flame.

"CHIIIIIIIIM!"

Now a tiny fiery comet, it lands on top of a stack of cardboard boxes, which promptly burst into flame. A moment later the fire alarm goes off and the sprinklers begin raining water over the area, quickly soaking everything. Still apparently outraged, Taillow dives after the miscreant with Quick Attack, followed by Gastly with Lick. Judging by the pained moans coming from atop the soggy cardboard tower, the Pokemon is still conscious after both attacks, although hurting.

After he agreed to help out with the smugglers, Mark's opinion of Jack only became all the better, and he would give Mina a smug grin that said, "See, I told you so!" And when Jack said that he needed to check out the mart at the end of their training session, Mark wold say, "H-Hey, I need to visit that too! Need to pick up a pencil or two, and a few pens..." His sketching equipment had been running a bit low, as of late.

"Well, certainly not the results either of us wanted. Gastly, Taillow, come back. Poliwag, come out, you're on restrainer duty. Make sure whatever that thing is, is aware that it best behave itself and listen to its trainer. We don't want to burn the place down, I'm pretty sure we've drawn an audience after all that commotion..." Drawing attention WAS one of the last things I wanted at least. Causing problems was far from the agenda at least. But getting a fire type, if this fellow knows of anyone looking to trade one away, would be beneficial.

Everyone but Matt:

Mina just gave Mark's preening a look of patient amusement. Then she wondered if she should be doing that, given that he'd already been drawing pictures of her corpse today, and the smile faded. To Jack she said, "Okay then, we'll make sure to grab you before we leave."

((Two hours pass...))

About halfway through the agreed-upon two hours, Mina determines her Magikarp is too tired to get any more meaningful training in and switches her out for her Unown. Mina puzzles over how to train it for a moment (it only had one attack, and its body language was even harder to read than Magikarp's given that it consisted of a floating eye and not much else) and finally settles for throwing pebbles for it to zap.

"I'll catch up with you guys in a little bit; I need to switch Sandshrew back in." With that Mina excused herself to do just that, then detoured to the bathroom. Her Sitrus Berry was getting taller so she watered it at the sink while she was there:

Matt:

"...chaaar..." The box wiggles a little and you can dimly make out a tuft of fur as the Pokemon gets to it feet. It plops down a level and starts making its way back to its trainer—Poliwag playing escort—and you finally get a good look at it:

"I wish I could say this was unusual." The Breeder and the Numel both glare at the creature disapprovingly; soaking wet now it wilts under their combined gazes for a moment, then tries to grin as though nothing happened; neither Breeder nor Ground type look amused. The Breeder recalls it before it can cause any more trouble; though the sprinklers begin to turn off after the fire goes out people are starting to poke their noses backstage to see what's going on. "I don't know what I'm going to do when the eggs hatch."

After waving goodbye to Mina with his mechanical arm and walking away a bit, Mark would stop once he was sure she wasn't looking at him anymore and glance back to the young trainer. Glancing at her with some concern, the boy would try to figure out just how she was holding up when she wasn't being constantly observed or in the company of others... before a wide yawn reminded him that he wasn't doing the best himself. Shaking his head and turning away once more, Mark would jog to catch up to Jack again, calling, "Hey, s-sorry about that! J-Just had to take a b-breather there. Let's get shopping!"

--------------------------

((At the shop))

Looking through the stock, Mark would buy a super potion and a glitter ball (This could be useful for contests, after all), and also look to purchase a good-quality pen and a few soft-tip sketching pencils... of course, failing that, he would just try to get a pencil, and a black pen to go with it. Something that would cost him no more than 100 PD... right? Right? And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how Mark became broke.

While they were shopping, Mark would turn his head to look at Jack and ask, "So... what kinds o-of pokemon are you looking for? A-And what's on your team?" Yup. Normal trainer talk.

Jack thought with his lack of status-healing items, he should really go for some of those. He didn't want to totally wipe himself out, but he didn't want to get too few either. Since his team had a decent amount of poison-typed pokemon, he figured 2 antidotes to be enough, but decided he should go 3 each of paralyze and burn heals. He also decides to purchase 2 sets of yellow claws.

"Well, I'm not sure what all is even out there, or if I want to go with a specific type as my main focus either. As for what I have, I showed you two already, but obviously I just had Veniped evolve into Whirlipede. Earlier, I had Lee evolve. I gained a Tentacool last night, as well as Grandpa, my Psyduck. What about you?"

"Eggs you say? What sort of eggs? If its a fire type, would you be interested in trading it? Or perhaps selling?" I hoped I didn't come off as awkward, or that my request was a bit uncalled for and out of place. I've rarely socialized with strangers back home. But being in this strange, new land... a new personality seems to be in order. The past is the past, but Bandra still needs a good stomping. I wonder if that ranger found anything useful out of the phonebook and other information I gave him. Suppose it doesn't matter, having encountered some before, has given a relative idea as to where they're located. Though I believe that information was already pointed out as well.

Mark, Jack:

((Earlier))

If Mina's in danger of breaking down or collapsing from exhaustion, Mark sees no sign of it happening in the few moments she spends walking to the Center.

((In the shop))

Mark asks the shopkeeper about writing supplies; fortunately it seems a lot of Coordinators are of an artsy bent, and he does have the fancy pencils and pens Mark is looking for in stock--and if Mark doesn't mind that the packaging is damaged and the implements are maybe a little scratched (courtesy of the recent attack) he can easily get the items he wants for 100 PD. Or, he can get a normal pen and pencil for 25 PD.

((Mark:
+1 Glitter Ball
+ 1 Super Potion
5850-1300 = 4550 PD remaining

Jack:
+2 Antidotes
+3 Paralyze Heals
+3 Burn Heals
+2 Yellow Claws

2200 – 1620 = 580 remaining))

----------------

Matt:

"I raise nothing but Fire Pokemon." He seems to think it over. "I can't sell them outright; I left my license back home. But I'd be willing to let one of them go if they could prove they were a good person as well as a good trainer. These eggs were hard to come by and they're going to be hard to replace, but I'd consider it.

And if the egg hatches female I want the hatchling back--with the understanding that I'll be replacing it with a new egg in that case."
