((You don't have to go crazy with the colored text. In general I use green when I'm quoting something from someone else's post because the quote boxes break up the text too much, but even that's not required. You can do plain black if you like.))

"...uh... where the contest hall was? Where I was soundly beaten by your Hitmonlee and lost a wager I had in hopes of finding a fire type pokemon?"

"Ceris," Pellana prompts helpfully.

"What sort of trial would I have to perform to earn your trust ma'am? What sort of good samaritan deed shall I accomplish? It seems to be the best form of communication amongst strangers. Pouring my heart out about my past apparently only made things far more awkward than they needed to be. So.... Miss Ana... pray tell... what can i do for you today?"

"I...well...if you wanted to join the Starlight Squad, they're the ones you'll need to convince. They had some trouble with spies during their last big battle, and you're going to need to do something to prove you aren't one. Something that hurt Bandra in a big, unquestionable way, like find Emilia or take down a Bandra Officer...but—I'm sorry if this sounds rude—I don't think that's something you could do by yourself. Unless you were really holding back during our battle or you have a bunch of Pokemon twice the level you used to fight me somewhere, you're Pokemon aren't strong enough to take on an Officer. Mine weren't." Pellana looks broody for a moment. "You might do better to do a lot of smaller things, like rescue Pokemon, take out a few notable Taskmasters, or get information on Bandra's plans."

I'm sure I'll manage to find them one way or another. If I don't, I imagine finding Bandra will be easier, and if I find them, they'll know how I might find the SS, or perhaps through my antics, they'll find me!"

Muttering a bit under his breath, Mark would recall Lapras and tell Mina, "I'll meet up with you guys at the pokemon center!" And then, he was off! Chasing after that fleeing Cosmas, with Kirlia and Corphish close behind. He wasn't going to let this little bugger get away after breaking two balls, lack of sleep notwithstanding!

Matt:

((In that case no worries. ))

"How many officers do they have?"

"There are eight, or I guess nine...depends how you want to count them. Altros was arrested by Dream a few weeks ago, the rest are still at large."

"And whom is this Emilia?"

"She's one of the two surviving members of the Elite Four. She vanished a while ago; no one knows where she is, including Dream."

"Somewhat shocked to hear that you lost to an officer, perhaps you were at a type disadvantage? I don't doubt your skill after all, having experienced it myself."

Pellana smothers a laugh; there's a distinctly hysterical edge to it. "I'm sorry but...no. I wish that had been it." Her eyes take on a tense, far-away look; you've seen it before, but usually in Pokemon that were badly traumatized by the Rockets' handling. "It wasn't just me there; there was Elder Monac, two of the three Starlight Squad lieutenants, most of the Squad besides them, and all the wandering trainers who were in town at the time. At least one of those was in the group that helped Dream arrest Altros. If I—if we couldn't have saved Ternai, we should have at least been able to make them fight for it.

We didn't. We were massacred."

Pellana manages to get a shaky hold on herself, which gradually crumbles as she speaks. "Did you know Ternai Town has a port?" You can tell she's trying to sound light but it's still coming out very strained. "It's an underground tunnel that comes up in some ruins in town. It's not very big, but you can get a boat through it at low tide. We'd used it one of the last few times Bandra had attacked and managed to drive them off...

But Bandra knew about it after that, and that's where Darrin came out. Where Acquegon came out.

You wouldn't have seen a Pokemon like it before. A dragon Pokemon over ten feet tall, with a head like a skull and wings like giant seashells—"

—wings that block the hall, a skull with forward-facing ridges, an unnatural mottled purple-black—

Pellana is sufficiently caught up in her own narrative not to notice your flashback reaction.  "—caused a flood just by coming out of its Pokeball. And an army of Water Pokemon right behind it. They smashed through the entrance; that stonework has been holding up since before the last war. The noise was so loud..." She manages to shake herself out of the almost trance-like state she's fallen into, but it obviously takes her some effort.

"And if you'd kindly point me in the direction of the Starlight Squad, I'd be most appreciative. I'm sure I'll manage to find them one way or another. If I don't, I imagine finding Bandra will be easier, and if I find them, they'll know how I might find the SS, or perhaps through my antics, they'll find me!"

"As I said, the Starlight Squad – what's left of it – split after the attack on Ternai. I don't know all the details, but I know two of their top lieutenants each took half of what was left of the Squad; one is camped outside Skybreak City, the other is back in Ceris. They had a third lieutenant, but Dien was with the party that tried to re-take Keida, and as far as I know he's dead now..." Pellana looks briefly puzzled. "...although now that I think about it it's weird...Bandra usually does big public executions for when they capture people like that, but I don't remember hearing about one for him...but never mind.

Last I heard, the lieutenant in Ceris Town was recovering at the Pokemon Center there, along with some of his Pokemon. The group by Skybreak City is having some kind of difficulty, Cassilda – she's the Skybreak City Gym Leader – won't let them in."

----------------

Mina:

Mina was feeling groggy enough she actually had to pull out her Pokedex to see what her options were, mentally regretting that Natu was back in the Pokemon Center, Dark types or no – one Nightshade would be about perfect right now.

Facade is super effective, Bubblebeam might work but would be cutting it really, really close, Aqua Tail might work...no, it's a stronger attack than Bubblebeam...Rock Smash will be super effective on a Dark type, Swift will be super effective...wait, that might work...

"Rollout!"

Mina considered calling Oodramer back – they outnumbered the poor Cosmas by quite a lot now – but they'd already been surprised by those Rhyhorn, who knew if there was something else out there? So she called for Veneer again instead.

Oodramer gave her a doubtful look.

"It should work this time," she assured him.

----------------

Jack and Mina:

Mark quickly vanishes into the dark, chasing the Cosmas. If there are any effects to Jack's Pokemons' attacks on the fleeing Cosmas, neither of you can see them.

Horsea uses Smokescreen!
Cosmas A's Accuracy falls!

Cosmas A still sleeps!

Oodramer uses Veneer!
Oodramer's Evasion rises!

Sandshrew uses Rollout!
Cosmas A is hit for 10 damage!

((Lucky Chant in effect: 2 rounds remaining))

Rattata: 0/38 (Shadowed: 100%)
Whirlipede: 56/56

Oodramer: 80/80 (Evasion up 1 level)
Sandshrew: 62/62

Cosmas B: 9/43 (Accuracy down 1 level) – chased by Mark
Cosmas C: 0/41
Cosmas D: 0/50

Cosmas E: 21/50 (Asleep) – Caught!

----------------

Mark:

((Mark, on the other hand, can see the effects of Jack's attacks. Grasswhistle whiffed and Disable hit, Bash is now Disabled – lucky you!))

You chase after the Cosmas, leaving the other trainers behind. The little Pokemon is more intent on speed than subtlety – fortunatly for you, as its short frame and dark color would have made it impossible to find in the tall grass if it had tried to hide. But it's running all-out, and making enough noise that you can hear it ahead of you, allowing you to keep track of it when you (frequently) lose sight of it.

Of course, the long grass provides a difficulty of a different sort. While your long human legs allow you to run through the grass with no trouble, it's another story for your Pokemon. Both being about the same height as the grass and lacking the Cosmas' practice traveling through it – the Dark type lives here, they don't – Kirlia and Corphish start falling behind. Kirlia, being the faster of the two, manages to keep up for longer, but eventually she trips, falls, and with a frustrated cry vanishes.

You're not quite sure where she Teleported off to until she appears some distance in front of you. And right in front of the Cosmas, who crashes into her and sends both Pokemon tumbling. He gets to his feet with a battle cry, and takes a combative stance.

((1 round until Corphish arrives))

((Lucky Chant in effect: 2 rounds remaining))

Lapras: 100/107 (recalled)
Corphish: 62/70 (catching up)
Kirlia: 61/61

Cosmas B: 9/43 (Accuracy down 1 level, Bash disabled)

Horsea uses Smokescreen!
Cosmas A's Accuracy falls!

The Cosmas sneezes on the smoke it his sleep, and the disturbance is just enough to wake him. His grogginess vanishes quickly and he leaps for Mina's Sandshrew, who is nearest, and manages to slam into her in spite of the sand and smoke in his eyes.

Watching Kirlia stand up and give just the sassiest of flips of her "hair," Mark would look back and see the grass shifting where Corphish was waddling his way to them, and mumble, "Oh right, tiny legs." Returning to the battle, Mark would call to his psychic type, "Well done Kirlia, good thinking there! Use double team and just try to avoid that critter's attacks, while I try to do this again..." And, pulling out yet ANOTHER pokeball, Mark would attempt to catch the disgruntled spectral type. Third time's the charm, right?

((Assuming that I get 2 actions here, since Corphish is out, just not able to contribute right now, in the same way a pokemon would be if they were asleep))

Jack, Mina:

Having seen Mark's earlier difficulty, Mina opted for a Great Ball for her attempt. She dug one out and threw.

Cosmas A readied a Bash before vanishing into it. Mina watched it with single-minded attention while it shook...again...again...

The capture ding! came as such a surprise she jumped.

Cosmas A
Type: Dark/Spectral
Ability: Magic Guard
Gender: Male
Level: 23
Held Item: None

Def: 30
Sp. Attack: 37
Sp. Def: 35
Speed: 39
Moves:
Tail Whip
Bash*
Pursuit
Flash
Faint Attack
Cosmic Power

Mina checked the ball over for a moment, not quite believing it, before the ball vanished off to Box Storage.

She nodded to Jack, somewhat shakily as her nerves were still unwinding. "Thank you."

Meanwhile, Jack discovers something one of the Cosmas dropped during the fight. It's...a piece of fruit?

((+1 Veira Berry Jack))

Matt:

"So, why would Dream, seemingly help Bandra by arresting a member of the Squad? That seems fishy."

"Huh???" Pellana looks at you like you've started speaking a different language. "Whatever gave you that idea?"

"Then again if what you say is true that they murdered two of the four elite pokemon masters in the world... Hmmm... What sort of pokemon did the two whom died specialize in?"

"Tethys had mostly Water Pokemon, Piez's were Electric."

"Is this Acquegon some mythical beast? Forced into servitude? Things just aren't adding up here.... If the balance is off, where would the other guardian be... Hmmm...."

"Yes, Acquegon is a Legendary Pokemon...it's the link between Salerdia and Aidrelas and the seas around Helnith, just like Herbacegon is for the land and Conflarmagon is for the sky. My Pokemon mythology is kind of rusty so I'm sorry if that doesn't make much sense. Anyway, as far as I know Tethys caught Acquegon fair and square, or at least nothing bad happened after he caught it. Definitely nothing like what happened when Salerdia vanished. I don't think it would be happy to fight for Bandra but they have ways of getting around that," she adds sadly.

----------------

Mark:

((+1 Faustian Pact Mark: Next successful Capture Roll will fail instead.))

The Great Ball engulfs the little Dark type. It shakes...and again...and once more...

Ding! Cosmas B was caught!

Cosmas B

Giving a celebratory fist pump, and feeling the strangest sense of dread, as if some kind of storm was brewing over his shoulder, Mark would go over to collect his newest pokemon, and once that had been dealt with, turned around and held out his hands for his little helper 'mon to give him a high five. "Great j-job team!" While Corphish understood the gesture and the pock of chitin on plastic would be heard as the crab reciprocated the gesture, Kirlia did not. Instead, she walked over, grabbed Mark by his non-robo hand, and pulled it onto the head of her real body so that he could give her plenty of rubs and pets.

Not minding the attention, and giving Corphish plenty of pets once they were demanded by his other pokemon too, Mark would spend a few minutes appreciating his littler team members before he finally recalled them and stood back up. Well... time to get himself back to the center like he'd promised Mina he would. Now which direction... yup! There were the center lights waaaaaay over there. Well, no time like the present! And in the night, Mark began his return journey.

You make it back to the Pokemon Center without issue. It's late enough the lobby is mostly empty, save for the nurse.
