Well now, this was a useful little list to have on hand... putting the pieces together while his mind tried to properly wake up, he would ask Kirlia, <Can all of the other psychic types do things similarly to you by virtue of their type and move set, or is this unique to you and I'm guessing Abra because of how your minds and bodies are shaped?> Never hurt to be thorough.

In the real world, Mark would finally catch just a little bit of the ongoing conversation, and decide to pipe in. "Um... g-guys, if we wanted to be sure, we could just... uh... ask the shadow types we caught yesterday? I mean. Kirlia could and translate what they say to me." Because of course both Mina and Jack knew that he was now psychically linked with his psychic type. Which would have no adverse effects on his mind or normal-type human self in the slightest.

"I mean, I can see where Jack was going with it. Spectral s-seems like more of a mental type, like Psychic, Ghost and Dark, rather than physical like poison or fire. S-So... maybe they could help de-shadowing be faster, at the very least?"

Mark:

Kirlia puts her tiny hands on her hips and looks at you disapproving. <You should already know this. That precognitive with the obnoxious Baltoy> you get a brief mental image of Daze, and a flashback of Kirlia sending the Baltoy in question spinning across the room <already told you! It's you humans that are sadly underdeveloped, not us.> You get the sense from her words that she means underdeveloped mentally, in the sense of having no powers, and by 'us' she means Psychic Pokemon as a whole.

Everyone but Matt:

"I...Well, I guess not. Would be nice though. Anyway, any immediate plans for the day?"

"We were supposed to go chasing Pokemon in the mountains today," Mina reminded. Specifically, stolen 'chaff' Pokemon, but Mina didn't want to spell that out in a public place; people were starting to wake up.

"Um... g-guys, if we wanted to be sure, we could just... uh... ask the shadow types we caught yesterday? I mean. Kirlia could and translate what they say to me. I mean, I can see where Jack was going with it. Spectral s-seems like more of a mental type, like Psychic, Ghost and Dark, rather than physical like poison or fire. S-So... maybe they could help de-shadowing be faster, at the very least?"

Mina was sufficiently out of it to completely miss the hint that something had changed with her friend. "Spectral," she corrected instead. She wanted to add that Psychic or Ghost Pokemon couldn't necessarily cure serious conditions either, that it was dependent on the Pokemon's moveset and nothing to do with type, but she managed to clamp down on saying any more before she came across as rude.

Instead she reached for Oodramer's Pokeball, and then remembered he was back in the room, sleeping. Grumbling to herself she went over to the PC, swapped Natu back for Cosmas again, and was halfway back to her seat when it occurred to her she didn't need to get her own Pokemon at all; both boys had their own Spectral types now they could question as much as they liked.

But by then there wasn't much point in bringing it up, so she called Cosmas out anyway.

"There. Ask away." Mina sat back down and petted her new Pokemon absently.

<Oh. Right. I mean, I never actually talked to the baltoy, remember, but... good point.> Thinking about it for a second, Mark would ask, <So... why do psychic types listen to our orders in battle? I mean, you guys could be pretty much self-sufficient if you wanted to be, right?>

When Mina sent out her pokemon, Mark would tell her, "Alright, thanks. This should just take a few seconds." And he would look over at Kirlia, gesturing his prosthetic at the recently captured new addition to Mina's team. Mentally he told her, <Could you ask this one if there is anything they could do to help with de-shadowing? At your leisure, of course!>

<Oh. Right. I mean, I never actually talked to the baltoy, remember, but... good point.>

Kirlia's sigh is purely physical, but you can feel her frustration that you weren't paying attention to what she'd just told you...and you can tell it's because you weren't paying attention and not for some other reason, which is something of a new experience.

<So... why do psychic types listen to our orders in battle? I mean, you guys could be pretty much self-sufficient if you wanted to be, right?>

<Whatever would you do without us?> That sense of conceit/self-assurance is back.

<Could you ask this one if there is anything they could do to help with de-shadowing? At your leisure, of course!>

<Of course.> Kirlia chatters at the Dark type, who after a moment says something back. No translation ends up being necessary; even with the newcomer being mostly physically a head, he manages the back-and-forth of 'no' well enough even the humans can understand it, though the Cosmas' chatter goes on a bit more. <He says no; he says most Pokemon know his kind can make them fight their friends and know not to get hit. So they get left alone and no one gets Shadowed.>

Rolling his eyes at her response to his first question question, Mark would respond, <Oh yes, whatever would we do?> With just a little bit of his own fond sarcasm.

Gently petting her head after she gets answers from the spectral type, Mark would sigh and mentally tell her, <Thank you for confirming. Drat. Would have been nice if they could at least help make it faster... but oh well.> Looking to Mina, Mark would shrug and stammer out, "W-Well, looks like you were right. They don't e-even know of a way to make it go away faster. T-They just know it makes other pokemon avoid them." And Mark knows this because he's obviously a botany expert. Don't question it Mina.

The motor of his prosthetic whirring as he stretches both arms and yawns, Mark would ask, "So. What were our plans for today again?"

"So. What were our plans for today again?"

Mina restrained the urge to find a wall and bang her head against it. "We were going to go Pokemon hunting in the mountains." Another thought surfaces, reminding her. "And at some point we were going to check up with Travis and Yoshi and see if there was anything else we could do to help them out."

"Oh. That. Right." The sleepy boy would finally realize that the other two weren't at all connected to their own psychic types. "Well, you know how we were thinking that Spectral types could do things outside of their move set? Turns out, psychic types can connect with their trainers at a mental level."

To demonstrate that he wasn't just going crazy, Mark would tell Kirlia, <Hey, you mind levitating a potion to me so that they don't think I'm just making this up?> Holding out his hand to accept his own potion (because why would Kirlia ever pass up the opportunity to show off?), he would tell the other two, "It comes with... a few advantages."

Mina watched one of Mark's Potions float into his hand.

"Cool," Mina remarked. She felt this revelation really deserved more than that, but couldn't quite manage to dig something more eloquent out of the fog of her mind.

"Oh, and could we work in a little bit of deshadowing Rattata?"

"Probably wise," Mina agreed.

"Yeah, cool. You can say that again!" Mark would say, smile practically beaming at the praise (meager as it may be). "N-now then, let's get some coffee... and I'll join you guys after I get the chance to brush my teeth." He'd been busy, it was understandable that he'd forgotten to cleanse his mouth in there! "See you outside the center!"

Mina:

While recalling the rest of her Pokemon (most of whom were awake; Houndoom had been scratching at the door and sounding anxious until she appeared) Mina was briefly distracted by her Sitrus plant, which had finally produced fruit:

((+5 Sitrus Berries))

And now she remembered how she'd gotten distracted by Poffin this morning. They were going into enemy territory; she needed to plant something new before they left. But she had a number of Berries she wanted to plant next, and only one planter to put them in. And she wasn't quite sure what to prioritize.

That Pecha Berry was useful; enough of those would ensure she never needed to buy Antidotes again. The Liechi was rarer, but would also take longer to grow and was more situational. She'd burned through a lot of her Oran Berries, and it was very likely the Nilla Berry would be useful against Bandra's hordes of Wispaferyn. Finally, all three of them now possessed at least one Pokemon with a double-weakness to Bug moves, so the Tanga was on her short list too. The rest were also useful to varying degrees, but Mina felt she could prioritize them lower for now.

Assuming they left about noon, none of the five would have produced fruit before they left. And it wasn't likely any of them would have reached the fruiting stage by the time they reached the mountains either, though the distance was such that the Pecha Berry would just about reach its third stage, assuming nothing delayed them – it might even fruit in time to be useful if the enemy had anything that poisoned. All the rest had longer growth times; the Tanga and Liechi would be a matter of days, not hours before they were useful.

On the other hand, even if it was only the work of a few minutes, Mina really didn't want to pull something like Misty had with the Feebas – stopping in the middle of enemy territory to do something as trivial as water her Berry, and by extension turning the three of them into another nice, stationary, inattentive target for Bandra. She was going to have enough trouble concentrating without such petty little distractions.

(She was still puzzled why no one had spoken up the last time. Neither had she, granted, but that was partially because she'd been expecting someone else to. No one from that group remained but her, so she supposed she'd just have to go on wondering why.)

She also had Antidotes in her pack already, and unless Bandra had traded all their Geodude in for Poison types she had enough that she doubted she would need a second supply of Poison healing items in the near future.

And actually (her mind circled back to the earlier thought on growth times) since none of these would be ready in time for this mission anyway, she should probably skip on the shorter-growth-period Berries altogether, and focus on what might be more useful for the next mission. She shouldn't be looking at the timeframe as a drawback; this was an opportunity to grow something that took a long time while not getting impatient waiting for it to finish!

...she hoped she still felt that way once they were deep in Bandra territory.

So that left two to pick from: the Tanga and the Liechi.

Thinking on it a little more, it occured to her that except for Cosmas and Oodramer (and W, but she couldn't ever see herself purposely bringing W into Bandra territory or any sort of serious fight)...most of her Pokemon weren't weak to Bug moves. Natu and Houndoom WOULD have been, but their other type cancelled out the Psychic and Dark weaknesses to Bug.

She thought over Mark and Jack's Pokemon; everyone had a Cosmas...come to that did she know if they were going to be using them regularly? Or even coming on the theoretical next mission at all? Maybe she shouldn't worry about their Pokemon...

...the Liechi Berry boosted Attack. A lot of her Pokemon were more Special oriented, but Houndoom, Pidgey and Sandshrew could make use of that, as could Magikarp if she ever got her to evolve. And she'd promised Mark one once she had more...

Mina realized she'd made her decision, fished out the Liechi Berry and patted it into the planter, getting it a bit of water before rejoining the boys.

((+1 watering Liechi Berry.))

----------------

Everyone but Matt:

Breakfast is an unremarkable affair except in the number of people passing in and out of the kitchen and the relative level of mess present, but everyone gets their food. Mina has a brief moment of clarity and remembers to grab a little extra in the way of portable edibles for the group's forray into enemy territory, and then everyone meets just outside the Center entrance.

"What are we doing first?" Mina asks. "Mark you had a thing you were going to try with Travis' Pokemon. How many things?"

Figuring they would get to Rattata at a later point in the day, Jack would have swapped out Rattata for Cosmas before heading out. With the fact that she would be disobedient a fair portion of the time, it was probably for the best.

All but Matt:

Hearing no objections from Mark, Mina nodded. "All right, let's go find him."

Mina's first suggestion was to check the bar, but on investigation he wasn't there; it was late enough maybe he'd eaten already. Circling back to ask the nurse yielded the information that he'd gone to the Contest Hall, which is where the party discovered him, deep in serious conversation with the town Elder.

Yoshi was with him and out of his ball; the Pokemon had been completely transformed from the shy little creature the night before. He was wearing sunglasses a little too big for his head, obviously-plastic gold chains mimicking the sort human teenagers wore to look edgy draped over his tiny body, with decorative spikes attached in places to resemble piercings. And he was strutting back and forth, muttering something that was not quite singing but too musical to be normal speech. At the end of a musical line only he could hear, he would pause, posing, then strut back the way he'd come to do it again.

((Earlier))

"Well, really I only have the two metal coats for him to try out... maybe the heart scale as well? Though I don't see how that could help... w-was just thinking that maybe it has something to do with traded items." Scratching the back of his head as the group began their quest to locate and talk to Travis, he would add, "O-On that note, Mina, if you had any items you would be willing to potentially part with for the sake of science, I t-think both of us would be happy to accept that help!"

((The contest halls))

Mark... had not been expecting that. And this display was adorable for all the wrong reasons. Making sure to keep his giggles at the sight of the small, swaggering pokemon trying to strut and show off their 'tude (which, given how nervous and shy Yoshi seemed to be all the time was NOT FITTING IN THE SLIGHTEST), Mark would wait for that round of rehearsal to finish up before clearing his throat and mumbling, "U-Um.. Travis? Are you a bit busy right now?"
