Sighing, Mark said, "Alright, a-as long as you're sure... I'll talk to him l-later, see what's up there. Though, uh, maybe Nurse Joy should check and make sure... there isn't too much..." As he said it, Mark remembered how well Mina and the local Nurse Joy had been getting along, and he winces as he finishes saying, "Bruuuuising?" And he scratched at the back of his head for a second, before she reminded him. "O-Oh right! But first, come with me!"

And with that, Mark excitedly shows her to the safe and tells her everything he was going to tell her before Sengar rudely interrupted.

Mark and Mina:

Natu reclaimed his perch, preening himself in a manner that seemed offended more than anything else. Mina petted him in a distracted manner and followed Mark to where they’d stashed the safe. She listened patiently as he asked her if she had any ideas on how to get it open.

“Well, what have you tried so far? I wouldn’t want to suggest anything you’ve already tried.”

And we were too busy teleporting people back and sleeping to really try anything, sooo...” Mark shrugged and told her, “We haven’t really tried anything a-as far as I’m aware. So anything you come up with is fair game!”

Mark and Mina:

“Paper?” Mina looked briefly curious, but decided if Mark hadn’t found any clues in it she wasn’t likely to either. “…never mind. Do you have any idea of what is in it?” It would be just their luck if they spent hours trying to open this thing and it turned out to be empty. And if there were something breakable in there they couldn’t try, say, Teleporting it several stories up and letting it fall.

Mark takes out the page anyway and holds it out to her, saying, "Yeah, paper. I was... k-kinda dead to the world last night, so... uh... c-couldn't make any sens out of it." Biting at his bottom lip as that painfully numb sensation of grief swept over him again, Mark clears his cracking throat and says, "And... n-naw, no idea what is in there. Just know that we can't... you know... teleport inside of it or anything."

Mark and Mina:

“My first thought for cracking it would be to check the internet since we’re in town anyway. Probably look up the brand and see if that model has any big flaws we can exploit.” Mina took the note briefly and started reading through it, only half paying attention to its contents as she mused aloud. “If we don’t know what’s in it we probably shouldn’t go smashing the thing open unless we want to risk breaking something. Wait, Matt has a Ghost type doesn’t he? Did you see if it could poke its nose inside?” ((Seriously guys, if you’d actually tried some of the things you talked about you’d be a lot closer to cracking this thing! )) “I think some of the fancier safes can keep out Ghost types, but it might be worth a shot.”

It was about then that Mina actually processed what she was reading.

Quote:
And they went up to the Shrine for the Rites of [calling? summoning], bringing the runes of the [unverified? misunderstood?], and the ritual knife, and their braziers and their sacrifices. And they spilled the runes unto the altar and spilled the blood of sacrifices unto the runes using the prescribed cuts; a dozen times a dozen was blood spilled, all for naught. And they did despair. But then his priest Hestra did speak to them, and when she had spoken she did plunge the knife unto her heart, and with her blood, freely given did they bring forth the [horde? army?].

She went very pale.

"... Oh." Mark said simply at the suggestion of using a ghost type. He had no idea that Matt had one, to be honest, and he would scratch at the back of his head as he thought about it, before pulling out his phone so that he could look up the safe's specifics. "Kirlia, could you look for a kind of water mark, trademark or other... uh... company logo?" He would ask the psychic type while pulling up whatever hipster version of google exists in this universe.

Once he'd pulled this up, he looks over at Mina and notices how the color has completely left her face. Blinking a few times to make sure he wasn't seeing something, he asked, "Uh... Mina? Y-You sure Sengar didn't hit you a bit harder than we thought...?"

Christian:

((I’m going to place you in the same part of the timeline as gorman’s character since he’s a little ahead and this will let me take him off hold.))

You’re still not sure what gave you away, only that you’d been ordered to take a detour from your spy mission to go to Keida to pick up a load of Poffin to distribute to another branch of Bandra’s territory, and on the way you were jumped by six Taskmasters at once. You only escaped with the help of the Sableye you’d encountered previously and your ‘regular’ Grunts ((you may or may not remember Rob, Brig, and Connor)) who, either out of genuine loyalty to you or simple confusion at being caught in the crossfire, backed you up under the sudden assault.

You’re fairly certain you were given away, however, as your Officer Keycard no longer worked on anything electronic after that point, being useful only for bluffing your way past human Grunts.

Since then you have been forced to zig-zag through Bandra territory for several days, sleeping on the ground without a Pokémon Center in sight. You are tired, filthy, and currently alone except for your Pokémon and the wild Sableye who has apparently been following you. Your texts to what is left of the Starlight Squad have gone unanswered.

But finally, finally you’ve come within sight of the small town of Ceris: large enough to have its own Pokémon Center, its own Mart, and above all, not (yet) Bandra controlled!

((In the interest of you not being too far behind level-wise, I’m giving you 15 levels to allocate among your Pokémon with the following limits:
--They have to be given to Pokémon currently in your party
--No more than 5 levels to a single Pokémon
--You have to give levels to at least four of your Pokémon

You’re also accompanied by Sableye, who helped you escape, since you’ve been kicked out of Bandra and you’d have difficulty going after it otherwise. IT HAS NOT BEEN CAPTURED YET, it still counts as wild, so if you want to keep it let me know what ball you’re using on it. (If you don’t want it anymore just…leave it be. ) You may use some of your allocated levels on it if you wish, by default it’s level 20.

The Egg you looted from Mr. Blake’s house has also since hatched; it’s a Smoochum. She’s level 5, has the Ability Forewarn, and knows the following attacks:
Pound
Lick
Fake Out (Egg Move)
Water Pulse (Egg Move)

If you want to keep her, let me know what ball you’re using, otherwise let me know what you’re doing with her because she’s a baby and isn’t likely to take off on her own initiative, unlike the wild Sableye.

Several of your Pokémon are damaged, I’ll let you know who and how much once I know how much HP your Pokémon have after the level-ups. (Or just go straight to the Pokémon Center. That works too. )

Because you’ve been doing some fighting, the Pokémon in your party with non-zero Shadow Gauges have had their Shadow Gauges lowered:
Tyrasin: 70 -> 58%
Duke: 38 -> 12%

Some of your healing items have also been expended during your escape:
-2 Potions (0 remaining)
-1 Heal Powder (2 remaining)
-2 Burn Heal (4 remaining)
…but you looted a Rare Bone, 3 Unown Tiles (A, C, E), and 700 PD (+ 3099 = 3799 total) in the process.

Also, it’s been long enough in-game that the effects of overtraining are gone.))

----------------

Mark and Mina:

Mark’s search quickly dug up some useful information on the safe model: First, most relevantly, it was not one of the higher-end models, being one of the most basic of its brand, and was not designed to keep out Ghost types. There was also a quirk with the notches in the wheels that made up the lock: they had a metal coating only in the notch, which was supposed to prevent wear and tear but a user review noted the metal was magnetizable so one could, with a strong enough magnet – or more likely a Pokémon with magnetic powers, those being rather more common – align the wheels properly without knowing the combination (a response from the manufacturer claims that flaw will be fixed in the next model). And apparently there is a ‘default’ combination but users are encouraged to change it upon receiving their safe and you have to call the manufacturer to get it.

Less relevantly, there was also a note from the manufacturer that the safe should be bolted to something solid to prevent…pretty much exactly what Mark and Matt had done by Teleporting it away to break open later. And indeed, on examination there were places on the safe where bolts were obviously supposed to go.

((I also have combat stats for the thing if you just want to try to break it open, though as it isn’t a Pokémon the Pokédex won’t work on it so you don’t get to know what those are. ))

"Uh... Mina? Y-You sure Sengar didn't hit you a bit harder than we thought...?"

Mina did her best to rein in her sudden hysteria. It wouldn’t do to come off like a crazy person.

“Mark…this note is about sacrificing things at the Shrine of Light. Bandra has control of the Shrine of Light. And that Taskmaster disappeared in the same area with a bunch of Pokémon Bandra doesn’t want.

Mark looked over that information and nodded to himself as he went along. Alright, so ghost types could slip in for a peek in there, good to know. Now if only they had one. He'd have to ask Mina about that... or see if they could find a place to evolve Jessia into a Froslass. But thinking about that brought Mark to a place filled with a darker hysteria than Mina's, so he didn't dwell on that line of reasoning for too long as he thought about the locks instead.

Magnets could work, eh? Interesting. He didn't suppose that the securing magnets in the joints and ball-socket of his prosthetic limb would be strong enough to actually trick the tumblers of this safe, but hey, he could always just try it out when he disassembled his limb for cleaning... which he sorely, soooooooorely needed to do, since he could notice how it sometimes made minute skips and slips whenever he moved it too quickly, and dust crackled a bit in each of the fingers as they moved. It always got a bit gross whenever he went outdoors and traveled for a long time without stop, and... weeeeeeeeeeell... he hadn't exactly been avoiding all of that coast trawling or mountain climbing, now had he?

At Mina's response, Mark blinked twice as things tumbled into place for his still somewhat-sleepy mind as well. "... Oh. Well..." Instantly recalling what he could from the poem and analyzing it as he falls back into strategy mode, stutter disappearing because of it, he asks, "Doesn't it say that the summoner has to willingly give their own lives in sacrifice? I mean, that doesn't sound much like anyone in Bandra to me. That's more like... a doom cultist's thing than the actions of a member of a criminal organization." But it was still a shrine, and shrines were where legendary pokemon tended to hang out... and that was troubling. Incredibly troubling.

“It did seem to imply that,” Mina agreed, calming slightly. ((Good, I was worried I was being too subtle there. )) She wrenched her mind back onto the topic of the safe with an effort. “So what do we want to try on this?”

Mark nods once she calms down, settling himself down in the process, and considers the question, thinking again. "The safe isn't high quality. From what I've read, strong magnets can pull the pins out of place and get it opened up easily enough, and ghost types can absolutely slip inside. I have magnets that are in my prosthetic, mostly at the joints, and I have to pull them out when I do the necessary full, deep clean once every two weeks... so I can test that out. But I also happen to remember that there's a boy with a magnemite that was around here a while ago, maybe he'd be willing to help? His pokemon liked my arm, at least."

Still at ease, for once, he adds, "And if we wanted a ghost type, we could ask Nurse Joy or Ranger Wane if there's a Dawn stone vein nearby and get Jessia evolved. I feel like that would be good for fighting Bandra anyway, what with all the fighting types they like to throw around... and the grass types they seem to be mixing in too. And if they took over a shrine, well, depending on what the typing is there, we might see flying or dragon types getting mixed into there as well!"

Mina was about to ask Mark what he wanted to try first because she didn’t have any Ghost types either…but got as far as opening her mouth to say so when it occurred to her that she did, actually. “…I have a Kindergeist.” And now that she thought about it, the poor little guy hadn’t had any training worth mentioning; she needed to fix that at some point. “Dawn Stones are kind of rare I think, but I know there’s an old mine” which was also an ex-Bandra Base but never mind that “up north we could check.”

"Oh, yeah, that would work! Just... make sure the fire type keeps his flames outside of the interior. Or at least turned down. Just in case whatever is inside of this safe is flammable, you know?" Mark says upon Mina's realization. "As for going north... Chevlain is finally fully healed. I was going to talk to nurse Joy and see if Wane has an opening in his schedule for a meeting so that we can work on un-shadowing her in a safer environment and manner than when we were trying to help out Jack's rattata. I'm certain that, with their machine out of commission, there must be some other safe method or space to help her out that won't potentially lead to her rampaging through the pokemon center... again."

"All of that to say," Mark finishes, still no stutter in sight and scratching at the back of his head with his organic arm, "I want to see what we can do there first, before going north to find evolutionary stones or fossils or whatever. But I'd be happy to join you after checking that out!"

LEVEL UP!!
Mike: 22->25
Verret: 20->25
Masamune: 20->22
Duke: 20->23
Sableye: 20->22

That should cover 15 levels.

IVs
I am still pretty unsure about these but assuming I only have the 15 to spend, here it is:
Mike: +3 Defense
Verret: +3 Defense, +2 Special Defense
Masamune: +2 Attack
Duke: +3 Speed
Sableye: +2 Special Attack

((at some point during the travels I would've asked Sableye if she was fine with being called "Majora". As for Smoochum, I'd ask her if she would be fine being called "Minora".))

Christian let out a sigh of relief as the town came into sight. "Finally, a place I can get a proper bath in..." he muttered to himself. He quickly took a minute to check his bag and make sure any and all team Brandra items were decently concealed. While the bag didn't have enough "hidden" rooms to properly hide away everything, burying the items into the deepest pockets would have to do for now.

Standing up again with another sight, Christian put on his backpack and turned towards the town, "Well, it is not gonna get any closer by just staring at it. Come on, Mike!" he said nodding towards the town.

His Hitmonchan, Mike, let out a vary cry as he begun to follow. He was out right now because Christian had gotten into the habbit of keeping at least one pokémon out at all times in order to combat surprise attacks. If caught by surprise he could not be shut down as easily as stopping him from pulling out a pokéball.

These past few days had been rough, not only on Christian's hygiene, but also on his mental state. No replies from Starlight Squad. Constantly having to avoid Brandra scouts, furious wild pokémon, and nature's pitfalls. Still, the thing that had been gnawing on Christian's mind the most for these past few days was not a physical problem, but a question.

"What had gone wrong?"

This was what bothered Christian the most. As far as he could think back, he had done everything to cover his tracks. There should not have been any obvious clues as to his identity or his connections to Starlight. And if there were, they should've been dashed the moment he helped attack Blake. Or at least he had thought so.
Christian had thought over all of his actions ever since arriving in Helnith. He had replayed the scenarios over and over and over again in his mind, but every time he just got more convinced that he should've been safe. Yet he wasn't. He had been found out. And he had to ask himself again - "What had gone wrong?".

Lost in these thoughts once more as he entered the town, Christian just headed straight for the Pokémon Center, only keeping enough awareness of his surroundings to make sure he wasn't being followed by anyone but Mike.

He walked up to the counter in the center, holding a quick pace as he begun speaking "Hi, could you take care of my pokémon? Also, do you know where I could get a bath? Or a shower at the very least? Also, do you have a computer I could borrow?" the boy barely took a breath between the sentences.

Mark and Mina:

“I’ll go get him, back in a sec.”

Mina darted off to switch him out, swapping him with her Cosmas before making her way back. She called the little Ghost type out and explained the situation to him, finishing with…

“…so be careful not to burn anything, just check inside and let us know what you see.”

Kindergeist seemed to understand, or at least Mina thought he did; he was a newer catch, and as far as she could tell a fairly young Pokémon, so it was hard to tell.

But he poked his head into the wall of the safe and out again without anything visibly exploding or giving off smoke, so maybe it was okay after all. He chattered at her in Pokéspeak.

((Mark only: ))

Kirlia translated. <He says there are little papers and some rocks inside, and one of the rocks is glowing. He also sees little wheels inside the door and wants to know if he can play with them.>

----------------

Matt:

You find yourself waiting behind a jumpy teenage boy wearing mostly black, whose Hitmonchan eyes you warily. Both human and trainer look like they’ve been through the wringer. The teen is babbling at high speed to the nurse and the Pokémon jerks a little at the sound of a door hinge squeaking. A Chansey tries to lead the boy off as the nurse waves you forward.

----------------

Christian:

((New attacks:

Verret: Endure
Masamune: Wing Attack
Duke: Rollout (at six; drop an attack if you want to keep it)
Majora: Detect (at six; drop an attack if you want to keep it)

Majora’s a new catch, so you have ALL her EVs to allocate. Also she and Minora will be in Box Storage when you reach town.))

"Hi, could you take care of my pokémon?"

“Of course!” Nurse Joy replies cheerfully. It’s about 3:30 in the afternoon so the Center isn’t terribly busy. She takes your Pokémon and runs them through the machine, then hands them back to you good as new ((and saving me the trouble of having to decide how damaged they are. )).

"Also, do you know where I could get a bath? Or a shower at the very least? Also, do you have a computer I could borrow?"

“We have a computer over there—“ Nurse Joy gestures in the direction of a PC “—and I’ll have one of the Chansey show you to the showers.” About this point you notice her smile is a little forced, and she seems to be trying to breathe through her mouth rather than her nose. Your smell must be potent indeed.

One of the Chansey tugs your hand and helpfully guides you in the direction of the overnight rooms. On your way out you hear a middle-aged man ask the nurse if she’s seen Mark or Mina.

Christian thanks the nurse before letting the Chansey lead him off. As he hears the mention of Mina's name he stops for a moment and turns around, trying to get a good look at the man's face. After studying it for a bit and committing it to memory, he again picks up the pace and lets Chansey drag him off to the showers.

"Showers first, gotta be presentable before I can approach people." he thought to himself as he recalled the Nurse's strained smile.

After getting a shower, Christian realized he had another predicament before him: The lack of clean clothes. Not really want to wear the dirty garbs from before, Christian still wearing nothing but a towel went looking for the closest nurse or Chansey.

"Excuse me, I don't suppose you have a spare set of clothes I could borrow while I get my other clothes washed and dried?" he would ask, trying his hardest to seem unfazed. Internally however, he was screaming in embarrassment for forgetting this simple thing.

While he waits for Kindergheist to finish searching, Mark hummed “I Can’t Help Falling in Love With You” by Elvis Presley (because this world clearly had an Elvis. Every good world does.) About half-way through the first chorus, he pauses as Kindergheist pops back out.

Mark nods as Kirlia translates for the little fire ghost, and he looks over at Mina and says, “Well, looks like a bunch of papers, a few stones that I’m guessing are either evolutionary, more of those tiles, fossils, or coins, and then a shining stone that I’m almost certain is evolutionary. He also found a wheel inside that he wants to play with... and I mean, as long as he’s not burning anything or damaging the safe, I don’t see why not. It might get the safe opened up without us needing to pick it!”

With that said, he resumes humming before almost immediately pausing and walking over to touch the safe, just to test the temperature of the metal, which could indicate how hot it was inside. If it was hot to the touch, he sends out Fisher and Jessia and tells them to make a bit of ice on it to cool the safe down. If it’s cool to the touch, then he tells Mina, “Nevermind, I’m just being paranoid.” Either way, he resumes humming immediately after, right from where he’d left off before.

Christian:

((Stats should now be up to date, let me know if anything looks off.))

The Chansey you approach chirps cheerful assent before waddling off. She returns some time later awkwardly carrying a big cardboard box with ‘Lost and Found’ scribbled on the side, in which are an assortment of mismatched clothes mixed in with what looks like bits of costumes.

----------------

Mark and Mina:

The safe remained cool under Mark’s hand. There was the sound of ghostly fiddling inside it for a few moments before the door creaked open, revealing a tidy pile of PD and a handful of Evolutionary stones—including a Dawn Stone!—

—and then it slammed shut again.

And then in creaked open again. And shut again. Based on the ghostly giggling Mina’s Kindergeist was enjoying his little game.

Embarrassed, Mina grabbed the door on its next outward swing. There was a brief tugging before Kindergeist faded back into view, looking confused. “Hold on, sweetie, let us get the shinies out first, then you can play with the safe.” She hastily scooped the loot out onto the floor for perusal and then cleared away from the safe door, which proceeded to make rhythmic creeeek – bang! noises in the background as Kindergeist resumed opening it and then slamming it shut.

Guess Who is Back?

Christian sighed as he looked at the box. "Well, it is better than nothing." he thought to himself before looking up at the Chansey "Thank you, this is just what I needed." he said as he grabbed the box and returned to the changing room.

After a few minutes he exited, now wearing a pair of shorts which was just about his size, a pair of green socks, and a t-shirt which stated "I went to Unova and all I got was this dumb shirt."

"Alright what now?" Christian thought for a moment before remembering the man who had asked about Mina "Right, that's the closest I have to a lead on anyone I know of. So lets look for that guy."

As Christian begun making his way to the reception of the center he let Masamune out behind him to have a pokémon at the ready.

((This next part assumes the man is not in the reception area))

Christian looked around, but could not see the man from before, so he headed over to the Nurse and asked "Excuse me. First, thank you so much for letting me use the shower, I really needed that! Secondly, there was a man here earlier asking about Mina. Do you know where I could find him?"

((IF the man who was asking earlier is still in the room))

Christian approached the man from earlier and stopped in front of him. "Excuse me, why were you asking for Mina earlier?"

"I was looking for her as I've got some profits to split with her and Mark." I respond eyeing the stranger warily. "How do you know miss Mina?"
