((I honestly don't remember if Christian ever met Mark))

Christian blinked a few times as Matt turned to address Mark, after a moment of pause he raised his arm into the air and waved at the boy. "Hiya there, name's Christian! Christian Reed! I am not sure if we ever met before, but you're the one traveling with Mina, right?" Christian put on the friendliest smile he could muster given his embarrasement at his current get-up and the stress of the travels so far.

Mark nods at the ranger's question and says, "Yeah, I've seen what happens when a shadowed pokemon goes kinda... berzerk. I don't think anyone here wants that." Looking at chevlain, he tells the dragon type, "Good job today! I promise we'll get you some real training soon, but for now we'll call it a day. If you wanted to go outside for a bit as well, I could do that when things slow down this afternoon. Otherwise, I'll let you rest until, uh..."

Looking at Wain now, he asks, "Are you free to help out tomorrow too, or...?"

((With Matt and Christian))

"O-Oh, uh, sorry Matt. Yeah, Mina was helping Pellena... uh, a f-former gym leader who wanted to get into contests... or poffin making, at least. Anyway, Pellena is like... really bad. Really, R-REALLY bad at cooking. And blenders that s-start on fire are a smoke hazard or s-something. Mina is being tended to for smoke inhalation." Mark explains all of this before looking over at the person he has literally never seen before in his life.

"Uh... hi." He says, waving at Christian with his one and only arm, which was currently holding a fine bristled brush which he was using to clean out his disassembled prosthetic. "My name's Mark, a-and I'm currently travelling with Mina. Yeah. Uh... I'm from Jotoh?" Which would have been obvious from his clothes, since he's gone back to his 'Kiss me I'm Jotoan' t-shirt. He also doesn't know what else to add.

Christian nodded and smiled at the nervous boy "Right, so Mina is currently preoccupied. Hey Mark, would you mind giving me your number? Actually, just take mine and send me a message when Mina is available. I need to talk to her, you see." he said before quickly saying his number out-loud while writing it down and handing it over to Mark. "It was a pleasure to meet ya! now if you'll excuse me, I need to see if my actual clothes are dried yet."

And with a last smile and a nod Christian walked off, trying hard not to run as he begun looking for his clothes again.

"Ahh, excellent! Cleaned up and ready to go!" Christian smiled to himself as he quickly got changed out of his currently bad get-up to don the old black outfit with the red outline. The freshness was palpable to the touch as he put it on. Now, with both a shower and clean clothes, Christian felt more alive than he had felt in quite some time.

"They might be hungry, so I should probably go procure some food." Christian thought to himself before heading out into the center proper again.

((After procuring food in whatever manner))

Christian made his way to the main hall of the pokémon center, finding a good open spot to let out his entire team. "Alright guys, it is chow time!" he said.
As the pokémon begun eating the food, Christian kept an eye out on the room, specifically keeping an eye out for anyone from the "M-Team" - Matt, Mina, or Mark.

((Presuming that Mark and Matt are still there))

Upon seeing the two men again, Christian approached them. "Hey guys. I uhh, bought some food for the pokémon. I think I bought more than they can eat right now, so if your own are hungry, I could share some with ya?"
"Smooth, Chris. Real smooth..."

Mina (morning before the Contest Hall Blender disaster):

The interior was so shiny and new it was almost painful to look at. It looked, in Mina’s opinion, like an oversized version of the fanciest office building she’d ever seen, but with a lot more people in it. There were currently three lines of those people trailing into what Mina assumed was the ‘main’ part of Trainer Hill, and a fourth line that was nearly as long by a little coffee shop. Over the front desk were giant TV screens that were being gradually shifted from the weather and other innocuous programming to scenes of battling Pokémon, and an additional, much larger screen listing prizes was on one of the walls:

Quote:

Mina also spotted a Nurse Joy at the built-in Pokémon Center, not looking very busy yet, and near the front of the lobby was - some kind of meditation area? – where an old man in monk robes was being served tea by a younger man also in monk robes. Mina wondered what that was about, then gave in to temptation and hovered closer to see if she could unobtrusively find out.

The younger monk spoke up almost at once. “Have you come for tutoring, young lady?”

So much for being unobtrusive.

By the time the other boy returns, Mark has half-way reassembled his arm and is just a bit busy with doing that one-handed when he looks back up and blinks at that question. With a shrug, he says, "S-sure. One second..." And with that, he sends out Tattersail and Fisher, screws in the next screw, and then sends out the rest of his team that aren't Chevlain or Sengar. Because those two are pretty anti-social, so he should feed them later. In a place where they won't automatically attack the nearest person (poor Mina's ribs) or pokemon.

If any of my pokemon are hungry, they can come out and eat their fill. As they eat I'll go and ask Nurse Joy if she might have an idea as to what the egg's contents might be, and if she's able to figure it out, I'll check the contents of the journal while waiting.

Mina (morning before the Contest Hall Blender disaster):

The older monk was giving Mina a look that told her that whatever came out of her mouth next was going to be graded.

“I’m not sure, what kind of tutoring is it?” she asked warily. If this was one of those, ‘we’re going to beat you up to prove to you that you don’t know anything about martial arts’ things like happened in the movies, Mina already knew she didn’t know anything about martial arts, and wasn’t interested.

The older monk’s expression was perfectly neutral, while the younger monk replied: “My master has studied around the world, learning various arts to unlock the true potential of all Pokémon. He can teach your Pokémon any technique it is capable of learning naturally, provided your Pokémon is at the level to handle the lessons he bestows. All he asks in return is a simple Heart Scale for each technique to be taught.”

((DM Note: In game terms, this guy is a combination tutor/move-re-learner, except that the moves your Pokémon can ‘re-learn’ can come from a non-Diamond and Pearl move list. Thus if you want a move from Black and White, and your Pokémon is the level it could have learned that move, talk to this guy.))

“Really.”

“You sound doubtful,” the junior monk’s demeanor was pleasant and – Mina thought – slightly amused.

What’s the catch?!! is what Mina wanted to ask. But out loud she settled for a more tactful, “I’m sorry but I have a hard time believing you can pay whatever bills you have with Heart Scales.”

Mina was pretty sure she wasn’t imagining it, now; the junior monk was definitely amused. “Mr. Scott pays us both an excellent salary, and also ensures secure accommodations and a steady supply of the highest quality teas.”

“Ah.” That made more sense. A service like that would be a good way to draw in new trainers. Mina was just confused, now. “Then why bother with the Heart Scales at all?”

“My Master believes that enlightenment is better achieved through the journey than through simple results; searching for such an unassuming item allows the trainer to learn as well. It provides the opportunity for the human student to reflect on the natural beauty of the world, form connections with others, and discover aspects of themselves they may otherwise have been unaware of. It also cuts down on the number of students who can monopolize my Master’s time” Mina privately acknowledged that for an otherwise free service, having some kind of ticket system in place probably was useful “and is a relatively easy item to find, which allows trainers who are less experienced or well-connected access to my Master’s teaching, which I believe was a difficulty Mr. Scott encountered when he previously attempted this service as a Battle Point reward.”

Mina checked her pack and realized she didn’t actually have any Heart Scales so this discussion was all moot to her – odd, she thought she’d gotten one at some point. Apparently not!

“Well then it looks like I need to go reflect on the world and form some connections.” Mina bowed awkwardly, “Thank you for taking the time to explain.”

The older monk was still watching her with those quiet judgmental eyes. Mina beat a retreat and looked around, she was here for a reason after—

—and there was Pellana, standing in line.

Mina (morning before the Contest Hall Blender disaster):

“Pellana!” Mina called to the Gym Leader (ex-Gym-Leader? Did she keep her title when her Gym wasn’t hers?) and waved.

“Mina! Um…” Pellana broke off briefly in a yawn and took a sip of what Mina assumed was coffee before she continued. “…Hi! What are you doing here?”

“Looking for you!” Mina stopped a few steps away; the people in line next to Pellana were closing ranks as if to say, ‘no, you can’t have cuts!’ Which was fine, Mina didn’t want to be in line anyway. “Elder Rashel said you needed help with Poffin?”

Pellana visibly flinched. “I really don’t think I was cut out for baking…”

“So I gathered.” Mina suppressed a smile; she didn’t think it would come off as very polite. “That’s why I’m here; I took a class on it and I might be able to help you out.”

Pellana looked hesitant; the line she was in shifted forward a little and Mina could see the Gym Leader was almost to the front. “Look, I appreciate it, but I’m trying to win something here that might help, and it will only be a few hours – I know it’s going to take me longer than that to learn to cook.” Mina was doubtful of this (()) but didn’t interrupt. “Could you come back afterwards? Or maybe take a run through Trainer Hill yourself and I’ll catch up with you afterwards, they still have Revives here and some other things I’m sure you can use, but they only take Battle Points.”

Mina already had some of those from the Battle Festival, but figured it would be rude to say so when Pellana so obviously wanted out of the conversation. “All right, I’ll talk to you later then.”

Mina was privately doubtful of that, figuring the Gym Leader meant to bail. Pellana hadn’t struck her as much of a coward before –no, no, Mina, be fair; she lost the city that depended on her for protection and now she’s probably traumatized. And possibly homeless too.

But Mina did give Pellana’s suggestion serious consideration, seeing as she was here anyway. About half of the prize list was meaningless to her, but she knew what SMs were and wouldn’t Sandshrew be awesome with Earthquake?!

Mina suppressed the feeling of excitement this sparked; she should find out if that was anything like a realistic goal. She found an unimportant-looking employee and quizzed them on how Trainer Hill worked, how Battle Points were awarded, and anything else she could think of.

((DM reminder:
Normal – one on one battle with three Pokémon each.
Roulette – same as Normal battle, except the battlefield will be affected by random weather, Trick Room, or other environmental effects.
Double – battle with a partner.

* Participants are allowed three Pokémon, which must be selected at the beginning of the challenge.
* All Pokémon selected must be within five levels of each other.
* Held items are fine, but the trainer can’t use any items on the Pokémon during the challenge (no Potions etc.)

Pokémon are not automatically healed after each fight. Participants can choose to have their Pokémon healed between matches, but this will incur a 1-round penalty.

BP rewards for each battle type are as follows:

Normal:
Lose   |   Win
Match 1:   0          0
Match 2:   0          0
Match 3:   0          1
Match 4:   1          2

Roulette or Double:
Lose   |   Win
Match 1:   0          0
Match 2:   0          1
Match 3:   1          2
Match 4:   2          3

Trainer Hill will also award bonus points for fast completion:
+3 points for winning all four matches in 5 rounds or less
+2 points for 5-8 rounds
+1 for 8-10 rounds.

Additionally, management will occasionally award additional points for trainers who pull off something impressive, at their discretion. ))

Mina thanked the employee for the information. She took a moment to run to the bathroom and water her Berries ((Liechi is growing taller)) then got in line – not having a partner to battle with she choose Roulette.

----------------

Group:

Everyone eats contentedly for a while. Matt is unable to find Mark when he returns as the latter has taken Chevalin outside to watch the sunset. As it is getting late, everyone eventually wanders off to bed.

----------------

Mark:

Mark is briefly awoken at half-past midnight, and the fact that the thing waking him is someone shaking him reminds him that he didn’t lock the door. After a groggy moment he is able to recognize Daze, the psychic from earlier, by the light coming in from the hall as the room is still dark.

Once he sees you’re awake he doesn’t even bother to say hi. “Listen. You need to go and get your friend. Your Pokémon friend,” He sounds very focused. Like he’s trying to hammer the words into your skull. “You need to do it now. Bandra doesn’t realize what you do or they’d have done the thing they’re trying to do, but they don’t, and your friend is going to die if you wait. So don’t wait. Hurry.”

He then leaves without another word, leaving you to go back to sleep.

----------------

Matt:

After going to bed, and some time after midnight, you find a strange teen shaking you awake. He has purple hair and there’s a Pokémon that looks a little like a one-eyed tick clinging to his arm.

“You should know you were half-right about him. He would be fine on his own, but he’s not. And he’s not going to be fine because the one with him isn’t going to let him go to where he can get help.” The teen’s gaze is very piercing. “But you might not care about that. He’s not the one you’re looking for. The one you’re looking for isn’t dead; they think he is, but he isn’t.” His gaze shifts to a point on the ceiling that, as far as you can tell, is perfectly ordinary and identical to every other patch of ceiling. “I need to talk to someone else now. You take this.”

((You receive a Sacred Talisman!

Held item. 50% chance any status effects on the holder clear each time the Pokemon regains health (even from Potions). Pokemon de-Shadows 50% faster.

Protects humans against mental intrusion.))
----------------

Christian (on the off-chance B-E-T-A ever shows up again) :

You’re woken up as the door to your room emits a very loud creeeeeek. (Someone really ought to oil that hinge.) You don’t recognize the teen standing in the doorway; he has purple hair and a strange, one-eyed bug-looking Pokémon perched on his head. He talks as though he’s continuing a conversation, though you’re fairly sure you’ve never met him before.

“He’s not dead you know,” he tells you matter-of-factly. “He broke them into pieces, but it’s not too late to put them back together. The message you carried was hidden; you should know this now. But you had the key and then forgot it.” He leans so close the tips of your noses are barely a finger’s width apart. “Ignore everything but the last part.” Something about that sentence sounds familiar. “I might not remember later. Don’t forget again.” And then he leaves, as quickly as he came.

----------------

Mina (night after the Blender disaster) :

Mina woke up to blazing hospital lights in her eyes; her lungs were better now. It took her a moment to realize there was someone sitting on the bed.

“I don’t want to talk to you,” he sounded annoyed, “you don’t like coffee. But you need to go to Skybreak. The book needs to go there so it can help you. Your friend in the brown cloak can help with the book; no one trusts them, but that’s because Bandra lied to them. They won’t trust you either but they can help. So you should go.”

He got up and left without another word, leaving Mina to wonder what that was about.

----------------

Group (next morning):

You awake around 7 AM; checking with the nurse reveals that Mina has recovered from her smoke inhalation incident sufficiently to be released. ((Not much point in leaving you lot to role-play if most of you are going to evaporate. -_- *headdesk*))

Mark would be drawing in his own journal by the time Matt finally finds him, though finding him was rather easy since the boy seems to basically live at the pokemon center. As for what he'd know about magic books is anyone's guess.

_____________________________________________________

((Intruder alert!))

Mark barely manages to wake up before Daze is talking to him, but given how many times he's been put into high-stress, life or death situations in the last year, his mind immediately activates all of its adrenaline receptors and as Daze is walking away, the now-focused boy jumps up on legs that are unsteady, falls to one knee and calls, "W-wait... Daze! W-which friend? Who can I save?"

_____________________________________________________

((The day after the Dazeing))

Mark would wake up early, and, after going to see how Mina was doing, he would call Wain. A psychic had come to give him a warning, and while it had been cryptic, it had beep pointed and it had been urgent enough for Daze to hunt him down and shake him awake. The ranger needed to know about the warning, at the very least.

"Ah, did anyone else get visited by a strange kid in the middle of the night last night, or was it just me? Like... I was sleeping and was shaken awake by this boy that was fairly, at least in my opinion, incoherent. He was rambling on about....some thing...needing to go for help but some thing else not allowing it too? Supposedly I'm looking for someone that's not dead, but some other thing thinks they are.... Does any of this make any sense to anyone else or am I totally confused right now!"

“I did.”

Mina’s voice drifted in from the doorway. Not having showered after the previous day’s disaster, she still smelled faintly of burned Poffin. “He said I needed to take a book to Skybreak City and ranted at me for not liking coffee. And he mentioned a friend in a brown cloak…do any of you even own a brown cloak?” If he’d mentioned a blue cloak she’d have thought it was one of the Town Elders. But as it stood Mina didn’t think she had any friends in brown cloaks. Though she hadn’t spoken with Fate or Dove in a long time…maybe one of them? Cloaks did seem to be a popular fashion accessory in Helnith…maybe it was time to check in with them.
