The group manages to get into the hall and bar the door before the Bandra voices reach the main chamber. While not perfectly audible, the group can hear notes of confusion and some muffled, shouted orders like ‘Find out where they went!’ The Taskmaster tries to kick the door and make some noise, but is summarily cuffed by Pellana and subsides.

The group makes it to the roof. The pile of Pokémon corpses is so large the far end sweeps back to this portion of the ruins – macabre, but it means there is something of a ramp down, albeit one that sends up a cloud of flies. (Tattersail refuses to touch it and floats herself down instead.) There are two crashes at once: the Grunts inside manage to get through the barricade at the door just as the makeshift ramp is knocked over.

The group makes much better time with the heaviest Pokémon being lifted with Confusion, and are just at the distance where Tattersail assures Mark she can Teleport from when the first Grunt head pokes out of the hole everyone escaped through. She gets the first, heaviest group of KO’d Pokémon out without issue, and then Pellana and her burdens, and then Matt…the Grunts are charging up the hillside and throwing Pokéballs just as Mark is whisked away with the final Teleport.

He and the rest of the group find themselves in the Ceris Pokémon Center ((which after her evolution, Tattersail managed to reach in one Teleport. )). Tattersail declares herself done and reclines on the couch, closing her eyes in a pose of relaxation and telepathically telling Mark to <instruct the human Nurse to tend to my injuries> in the tone of someone ordering the servant to fetch the peeled grapes.

“Ranger Wain…” Mina speaks up. “You should probably call that ambulance and tell them we don’t need them.”

((It is 5 PM and you’re in Ceris.))

The sudden shift from the high-stress location, -one where his last friend from home had died and been dumped like a sack of trash into a pile of corpses (which Mark had done his best to look away from on the way down,) where his pokemon had been imprisoned and likely tortured, and where he and the few friends he had here had almost died,- to the normal, safe and soothing sounds of the pokemon center, would leave Mark standing there in shock for a moment. He was still tensed, as if he was ready to direct the handful of wild-ish pokemon he had in a fight against an overwhelming number of bandra goons, and he blinks twice while watching Tattersail walk like the imperious lady she clearly wanted to be treated as.

Her dainty flop and her flippant remark snap him back into reality, and also snap him out of the numbness that had settled around him. At first he giggles, then chuckles, until he lets out a full on laugh that has him folding around his arms as he clutches his stomach, slowly collapses against Tattersail's couch. He laughs and laughs and weeps as relief mixes with grief, pride, loss, the elation of success beyond what he had expected, and horrible, horrible guilt all wash over him. "M-Mina, Wain, Matt, Pellena... I-I'm s-sorry. I'm s-so s-sorry... I should never have asked..." They'd won, but they had almost paid for it with their lives. And that was something that Mark wasn't going to forgive himself for causing for a long time.

But he doesn't have the words to express that at the moment. Instead, trying to hold it all in again, his words broken by the laughter that threatened to continue, he calls out to the nurse, "N-Nurse Joy? M-My gardevoir d-deserves a b-bit of rest and healing I-I think."

Within minutes, the entire group - humans and Pokémon - is being swarmed by nurses and Chansey. Ranger Wain explains the situation to the head nurse and a few trainers who had been lounging around when the group arrived zip off excitedly once they figure out what’s going on. The rescued Pokémon are whisked away into the back for an extensive checkup (prompting Mina to go dig Serranix out of Box Storage and push her ball on a nurse, saying, “This was one of the rescues, please make sure she doesn’t belong to anyone”) and the group Pokémon with less serious injuries are run through the machine and returned to their trainers in short order.

"Nurse Joy... I have a crisis here, my Taillow is badly injured and shadowed... Actually I believe the whole team is shadowed to the max... Oh wait... except Poliwhirl, which is this pokeball... I need them healed... and to research a way to quicken the de-shadowing time... Actually, how would I go about giving a shadowed pokemon an item that increases their de-shadowing by 50% without being attacked by them outright?"

“You could try giving it to them while they’re still unconscious,” the nurse points out logically. “And I’ve heard there’s a Cologne seller outside Trainer Hill. Elder Aquai and Elder Saha had a Purification Chamber imported from Orre some time ago, but it was lost in a Bandra attack.”

About this time Viola contacts the Ranger via his Styler and lets the group know the Skybreak City police are on their way to pick up their prisoner.

While the nurses tended to the pokemon and people, Mark would wait for news on whether or not Marick was conscious. Now that they were both alive and out of danger, Mark’s priority became exclusively focusing on taking care of his little buddy, and getting the steel type back on his team where he belonged.

Wain and Pellena could handle coordination with the nurses and could deal with the Taskmaster. Mark had a Great Ball with Marick’s name all over it.

I slump to my knees and retch again, spitting the bile from out of my mouth while breathing heavily. I messed it all up... I'm so... foolish... Nothings changed... Sure don't act like an ex scientist... I've gotta pull myself together... Get focused. Driven. Need to get stronger... Can't let this happen again...

Mark:

It isn’t long before a nurse taps Mark on the shoulder. “Your Aron is awake, would you like to see him now?”

----------------

Matt:

The Sacred Talisman goes on Ratman without a hitch, and the nurse takes him along with the rest of your Pokémon to be healed as well as possible given their conditions.

Not long after you’ve emptied the contents of your stomach, one of the nurses manages to find you and gives you back your Pokémon (restored to full HP) with the warning that the Shadowed Pokémon are still Shadowed and your Taillow’s feathers will take about a week to regrow. She also recommends that you not try to de-Shadow all of them at once, as Shadow Pokémon are dangerous and you should have more than one friendly Pokémon protecting you in the mean time.

Mark had, at some point, pulled out his journal, but he’d just been staring at it blankly for the past few minutes. He felt that he should draw, but he didn’t know why, or even what he wanted to put on the paper. A pleasant numbness had gathered around him by this point, fuzzing up his thoughts and his focus.

So when Nurse Joy comes up to him, Mark would jump and let out a totally surprised yelp, dropping his journal on the floor before coming back to the world. Blinking twice, he blushes a bit and mumbles, “U-um, sorry. It’s... b-been a l-long day...” but he picks up his book, tucks it under his arm, and nods at the nurse to show that he was ready.

Matt:

((To be clear, you’re depositing all your Shadowed Pokémon into Box Storage and just taking your Poliwhirl and Gastly with you?))

”... actually, I PRAY I remember correctly... the south should be clear of Bandra. They were mainly to the north and north west correct?"

The nurse has already gone back to her duties and the Pokédex, being at its core a fancy electronic encyclopedia on Pokémon not Bandra activity, says nothing in response to this.

"What sort of pokemon are in the southern part of this country that might be strong against the shadowed pokemon, or should I say tough enough to not get knocked out easily... or possibly shadowed themselves... God I hope they can't get shadowed...."

The Pokédex reminds you that being Shadowed is a condition, not a type, although it does helpfully bring up that the local legendary Aidrelas supposedly has the power to control Shadowed Pokémon. It also informs you that Spectral-type Pokémon are immune to Shadowing.

----------------

Mark:

The nurse leads you to a room in the back where your little Steel type is nestled on a Pokémon-sized bed. There are a few tubes trailing out of one side of his mouth and a half-empty bowl of what looks like metal shavings next to him, but he’s awake and alert and notices you almost immediately. He lets out a happy cry and tries to leap up out of the bedclothes before being scolded by the nurse for not resting.

“He should be ready to leave by tomorrow morning; we have him on fluids and an antibiotic as a precaution. I’ll leave you two alone.”

((Just adding a quick edit to make the OoC statement clear over here...)

Ah, there they were. All of those emotions again that the numbness had just bottled up, tightening Mark's throat and leaving him speechless as the nurse informs him of the little steel type's condition. Marick was going to be fine.

The moment he was alone, Mark dropped his journal to the side and moved to his aron's bed without thinking. Careful not to disturb the tubes, he held his pokemon and wept. But while they were tears of sadness, yes, this time there was far more to it than that. There was joy, and more than a little helping of relief at being reunited with a friend that he'd been afraid he'd never see again. But here they were, and Marick was going to be fine. Mark had saved one of his friends. And time and again he promised the little steel type that he was here to stay, and would never leave him again.

After a few minutes of this, Mark sent out Tattersail and Tar (who he got healed at some point in the confusion and chaos.) Looking at the two pokemon that he'd brought with him, momentarily feeling a pang of heartache for his ariados who'd been banished into the box, Mark sniffs, wipes at his eyes, and gives his pokemon the widest, most genuine grin he's ever had as he says, "We got him back. W-We... we got him back."

And for a little bit, at least, everything was alright. When Marick was off the fluids, Mark would be re-catching the little steel type with the great ball he had reserved, but for now the four of them could just stay here and... well, not relax, but have a moment where the tension faded away, at least.

Marick seems to enjoy the cuddling, making a happy rumbling in response. Tarr perches on the bed next to Marick and looks him over with interest, while Tattersail greets him regally - her demeanor more suited to a formal dinner than a near-miraculous reunion with a long-lost friend, but pleased nonetheless.

----------------

Matt:

Being evening, most of the town’s populace is off the streets for the day, but there are enough people around the bar going for food and around the Pokémon Center to pick up gossip to get some basic answers:

Ceris Town ((where you are now)) and its immediate surroundings are considered safe, as is Tidepath City, Skybreak City, and the roads between them. Rieva last anyone heard was clear of Bandra, but there was a recent incursion from the Spectral Dimension, with the result that there are Shadow Pokémon and natives of that realm in the vicinity. Beyond that you’d have to get Hillsbreak Town or Dewdrop Forest before you get into friendly territory again.

Mark would spend almost two hours with Marick, telling the little steel type about the things that had happened and showing him the new pictures in his journal. The pictures of Zelgius and Mina's injured state made Mark pause for a bit, harder to get through than most of the rest... but he works through it. And he finally accepts that he isn't responsible for not being around when Mina was injured, and starts to accept that he couldn't have saved Zelgius, or any of his other friends, even though he tried.

He wasn't going to get over everything that happened immediately, but it was a real, honest start.

After finishing catching up, Mark tells his steel type goodnight, recalls his Skarmory, and leaves the back room with Tattersail to look at the pokemon center lounge. Who was still around?

As it’s now 7:30 PM the lobby is largely empty. The police have taken the Taskmaster away and the rescued Pokémon have been bundled into the back for care. A few trainers are lounging around, but no one you recognize.

Ah, the night time singers again. Probably a different group from ones I've encountered earlier. Might not understand their language, but the music is definitely soothing. I almost feel...peaceful... I think to myself.

Not wanting to disturb them I take a seat in the grass and watch, listening with growing fascination.

Hmmm.... I wonder... If they're a spectral type of sorts.... would that make them immune to shadowing? Would they be better suited to help unshadow pokemon somehow?

I shake my head telling myself it doesn't matter. I've caused enough damage. I don't want to hurt anyone any more. My over confidence cost so many lives... Innocent lives...

Well, Wane would have a long night and morning ahead of him, so Mark shouldn't feel disappointed that the ranger wasn't still here... but he still sighs slightly. Plans had changed, he had no idea if the ranger would still be willing to work with him, and he had two shadowed pokemon he had to work on curing. But he could still do a little bit tonight before he turned in, and he would work on helping his Chevlain, even if he wanted to do nothing more than fall asleep right now.

First things first, however, he needed to swap parts of his team around. So he deposits Sengar for his Chevlain, and then he goes out to see if that cologne merchant was still in town and open at this time of evening. If he can afford it, he's buying one of the cheaper ones, and then he's going to work down the rest of that shadowing in a quick mock-fight that should be over before the shadow rage even has a chance to take over. If the merchant is currently closed, then he'll just check in with his ice dragon to see how she's feeling, do a quick, 3 round mock battle to get her ready to be cured in the morning, and then call it a night.

You swap your Pokémon without issue, but you wander around town for a while before you realize you’ve never seen any Cologne sellers in Ceris. Maybe that was somewhere else?

Well, to be fair, Mark had been through a bit today. So when he doesn’t find a seller, and after a good 45 minutes of just aimlessly wandering about town, he would make his way back to the pokemon center and ask the nurse where the nearest one might be. After writing that down on a note in his phone, Mark would do the plan with Chevlain (asking her how she was doing/ getting in 3 rounds of mock battle, with Fisher tanking, Corphish washing away wounds, and Tattersail monitoring the ice/dragon to make sure she doesn’t rage early.)
