Mark:

Once you’ve put Tarr into Box Storage, the nurse smiles and directs one of the Chansey to take you to your Aron. The Pokémon in question is awake, free of tubes, and munching happily on his breakfast. He looks up when you enter and immediately abandons the food in favor of hopping down to come greet you.

((Feel free to role play here if you want. Needless to say, you recapture the Aron without a hitch. -1 Great Ball, 3 remaining.))

----------------

Matt:

You arrive at the scene of the smoke: your wayward hatchling has managed to climb one of the only trees for some distance around, and said tree now has several branches burning. The hatchling is hissing at something on the ground.

When you get closer, you can see that the thing is a very angry Rhyhorn; the grass around the tree has been stomped flat, and you can make out the squashed remains of a Watmel Berry nearby. It roars back at the baby, apparently unaware of you for the moment.

Thinks to himself Oh boy, this one's a trouble maker just like his new owner...

Surveying the situation I hold Poliwhirl and Gastly's pokeballs under my shirt and hiss out instructions as I summon them out, warning them of the Rhyhorn on a rampage.

"Poliwhirl let's start with Rain Dance, Gastly, do your creepy fade out thing and reappear in front of the Rhyhorn and use Mean Look. Pokedex, some information on that Rhyhorn if you please. Perhaps a level guess. They can't be native to this region are they?" Alright, after this surprise round, we'll see what sort of information dump the Pokedex feeds back with, maybe we can catch two in one go.

Mark would waste no time as his little steel type excitedly bounds over to him. After bending down to give Marick one or two pets, the trainer would press his pokeball against the pokemon’s head and catch him again, this time for keeps!

With Marick back on the team, Mark lets the nurse know he will be back at noon to give the rescued pokemon lunch, goes to the out-of-the-way room that he’d worked with Wain before, and send out Chevlain to get some more de-shadowing done. And if that isn’t available because Wain isn’t in town, he’ll let his ice/dragon out just outside of the building. After explaining to her that the ranger was gone, with Tattersail out and translating and Fisher and Corphish off to the side, he lets the ice-dragon know that it might be a few days before they could get more cologne, so they wanted to get the de-shadowing done they would have to work it out the old-fashioned way.

“If you are willing, and don’t want to wait, I’d be happy to work down all of the shadowing currently on you right here. But we’d need to be careful. While we can wash off any minor dings on Fisher pretty easily, I don’t think that any of us want you flying into a rage. You’ll lose control, and we’d actually have to fight instead of just going through a mock battle. So if you feel that rage building, I need you to let Tattersail know so that we can take a break until you calm down, okay?” The boy was careful to keep his space while saying this, giving the ice dragon plenty of room despite the presence of his other pokemon. He also keeps her ball out and in his robotic hand, as a subtle reminder that he was broken too, but he’d put himself back together and had promised to help her as much as he could.

Matt:

The Pokédex informs you the Rhyhorn is level 25, male, and the species is indeed native to the region of Helnith and the area you’re in in particular.

Poli uses Rain Dance!
It began to rain!

Gastly uses Mean Look!
Rhyhorn can’t escape now!

Gastly’s Mean Look successfully diverts the angry rhino Pokémon’s attention from the baby Fire type, at the expense of drawing it to Gastly instead.

Rhyhorn uses Horn Attack!
No effect!

…not that it makes any difference, as the Rhyhorn charges harmlessly through the Ghost type to ram into the tree’s trunk instead. The baby hisses as its perch shakes, glowing slightly as its scales Harden.

((Rain dance in effect: 4 rounds remaining))

Gastly: 48/48
Poli: 83/83

Rhyhorn: 82/82

Pyrofyl: 20/20 (Defense up 1 level)

----------------

Mark:

The room is indeed available, so you set up in there.

The look on Chevalin’s face is hard to decipher, but as you have an empathic Psychic Pokémon mind-linked to you Tattersail is able to give you a better read: Chevalin is feeling a mix of confusion and offense. She can’t figure out if you’re talking down to her or if you just don’t know what you’re doing.

To be fair, Mark didn't particularly know what he was doing... so he figured he would try a different rout. "Alright, look. The last person that had control over you was a piece of human garbage. I'm not them, I don't want to remind you of them, but I also don't have time to go to the place that makes this easy, and you are the highest level pokemon I have. Right now you're spending more time in a box than you are training with me and the rest of the team. I clearly don't know how to handle you. That's not acceptable anymore. I need to get used to you, you need to get used to me. So, if you want me to be more affirmative than I've been so far..."

Setting his shoulders, Mark states, "We are de-shadowing you today. Tattersail will monitor when you need a break, and we will take it whenever we need in order to calm you down, but we are removing the last little bits of that so that I can actually use you on the team and start working with you. We're getting this done before noon, and after lunch we're going to get some real training in. Sound good?"

While that last part is a question, there's a note of challenge to it. He also says that while stepping behind Fisher, telling the lapras, "Use rain dance. Tattersail, use lucky chant. Corphish, get ready to use bubblebeam on Fisher whenever he's damaged." He then looks at the ice dragon and commands, "Use powder snow on lapras exclusively." Hopefully that will get things started.

And if they did, the next few rounds would go as follows: Fisher uses sing on the rounds he doesn't need to reset rain dance, and holds off on attacks on the rounds that Chevlain is asleep, Tattersail uses growl on the rounds she doesn't need to reset lucky chant until the ice dragon's attack drops as low as it can, corphish washes away Fisher's wounds, and Chevlain uses powdered snow on Mark's lapras. And if Tattersail saw a rise in Chevlain's rage that wasn't caused by boredom or mere frustration at not dealing any lasting damage, Mark would recall the shadowed pokemon, give her an hour to calm down, and then start again. It was a simple routine, but one that would hopefully prove effective.

Surprisingly, Chevalin mostly goes along with this plan, with only one incident near the very beginning where she ignores you. ((Excellent rolls!)) By 10 AM, the Pokédex readout indicates that her Shadow Gauge has been cleared. She doesn’t seem noticeably friendlier, but on the flip side she isn’t trying to run off or attack either.

Honestly, that went better than Mark had expected. And a little bit faster too. Telling all of his pokemon that they did great, and that he would see them again after lunch, Mark recalls all of them except for Tattersail and make his way back towards the pokemon center.

There was still a bit of time before lunch. He had something that he needed to do. After checking in with the nurse to let her know that he was ready to help out whenever she needed him, he gets out his sketchbook and his pencil and finds a place in the lobby to sit down. But he didn't draw pictures. Instead, he began going through the pictures he'd already drawn, and in the white spaces of certain pages he would write.

Under the picture he'd made of his team, Mark writes, "Get everyone back." And he makes a check mark next to that. Marick was back, he hadn't lost any other members of his team (and had a plan to help his Ariados.) He'd even managed to save Jessia!

Beneath a picture of himself, Mark writes, "Stop being an idiot." Beside that he adds, "Good luck with that." No checkmarks here.

To the right of the comic he'd drawn of his Lapras and the Chansey, Mark would write, "Help the nurses from time to time." And there went a little check mark. Above the picture of Chevlain on that same page, Mark writes, "Keep team un-shadowed." Sengar would be a wrench in that plan, so there was no check mark at the moment... but he'd be doing his best to fix that soon.

All the pictures he'd written "I'm sorry" beside before, Mark would write, "It wasn't my fault." The helicopter wreck was the hardest to write it under, and he actually snaps the tip of his pencil and needs to re-sharpen it under the picture of Mina, but he forces his hand to do it. Because he needed to stop tearing himself apart for those.  Also beside both of these pictures he writes, "And stop drawing this garbage you fool." The picture of Mina and that last note had a check mark placed on them, but the helicopter wreckage... he'd destroyed the propellers, hadn't he? That was on him. Bandra had forced him to do it by making the attack, but that had still been his decision. So he actually crosses that goal out and writes, "Get over your guilt" instead.

Of the tower in Ternei Town, he added a note to the bottom of his notes. "Try to figure out how Aidrelas was defeated and sealed away in the first place." No checkmark for this one.

On some of the blank pages he writes, "Draw more people you met." One of them is Sarah, one of them is reserved for Adriana (with a note to try and meet up with her again,) and another for Christian and Matt.

After reserving these pages, he flips back to the page with all of his dead friends and begins to write. At the bottom, he writes the goal, "Forgive yourself." He doesn't put a check mark beside this one. Beside Jason, Maxwell Morris and Markus Olen, Mark wrote, "Were stronger than I am now, I didn't have a chance." And these three get checks. Beside Alan Lorend and Blake, Mark writes, "Died before sending out pokemon, I didn't have a chance to warn them, I had nothing to do with the ambush." These two also get checks.

Beside Zelgius he writes, "I could not save him from himself. He stole my pokemon. I don't owe him anything." A voice in his head responds, I could have come a week earlier. He was more family to me than my step brother ever was. He saved my life... No check mark gets made here.

Finally, on one of the blank pages, he writes, "Make new friends, you lonely sap." Having written that, he sends a message to Mina saying, "Hey there oh radiant one. I'm helping to feed the rescued pokemon if you wanted to meet up." And then Mark goes to do just that. And he'll feed his own pokemon while he's at it!

The Rock type’s body goes rolling out of sight from the force of the attack and is quickly lost in the grass.

From his perch in the (still burning) tree, Pyrofyl makes a disappointed noise.

----------------

Mark:

There is no immediate response from Mina; when queried as to her whereabouts, the nurse tells you she’d gone to Trainer Hill so she might just be busy. This means she doesn’t show up in time to feed the rescued Pokémon, but the Pokémon are perfectly happy to see Mark – even the Caterpie. Most of them are a little shook up from their whirlwind near-death experiences, but the nurse tells you they’re healing well.

((See my earlier comment in the OoC - did you want to keep one? If so let me know which.))

"Poli, the rain doesn't seem to be putting out the tree very fast, could you use Bubble to perhaps put out most of the tree without hitting, or coming anywhere near, Pyrofyl? Actually heck, lets see if Pyrofyl will jump happily into this Glamour ball." I say throwing the ball at the fire type. At least if we catch him and it accidentally faints, we won't have to run him back to town. Sure can't do that for the Rhyhorn... those things must weigh a few hundred pounds.

((I already got my Aron back, I'm good. ))

Mark goes to each of the pokemon and, with Tattersail's help, he asks them if they have trainers that they need to reunite with, and how they are feeling. Any of the wild ones or pokemon who's trainers had been killed that he encounters he assures will be let free or they will be given the chance to bond with a trainer, whichever they desire, and if any of them wanted new trainers he would go to Nurse Joy and let her know which pokemon wanted what at the end of his shift. Given how many young trainers there were in the local area, Mark would make the suggestion that she could post a flyer or some other announcement letting new trainers know that there were pokemon looking for a good home.

The Caterpie would get special attention, and Mark bends down to pet the little bug and feed it from his robotic hand. "You were incredibly brave in there, and you probably saved our lives. But I abused that bravery. That was wrong, and I'm sorry." And that was really all he had to say. What else could he say, after all?

After tending to all of the wild pokemon, Mark lets out his team and gets them lunch as well, and he gets himself a bite to eat. While he does so, he checks his phone and...

Well, no one was talking to him today. Not that he blamed them after his massive mess-up yesterday. Wain probably saw him as unreliable, Mina was probably done being put at risk by his mental state... Shaking his head to push those thoughts away, because he was done moping, Mark went out to train his team. Figuring that one of the easiest ways to build up loyalty and happiness was via leveling, Mark would train Chevlain up 1 level and then, intent on getting the steel type evolved as fast as he could, Mark trains Marick until he levels up 2 times.

There's got to be some sort of wild potatoes or other plants around here that would be edible. Heck even a raw onion would taste nice right about now. My stomach gurgles in agreement. As I dig around for the mining kit to excavate some plants to study I come across a certain oddity I've completely forgotten about. (Imagine that)

"Holy guacamole! I still have these Poffin things in my pack! Pyrofyl come back out, you guys can eat these Poffins! I think there's some sweet and sour ones as well as others, I know very little about them so I'll just let you three chow down. I'd say eat all you want but do keep in mind that if we run out of food too soon, it'll be rough going. I'm unsure how much the remaining funds can buy as far as that."

As I fold my arms and watch them eat for a few minutes, I take up the mining tools and start digging around plants looking for an alternate meal source.

After finishing training, Mark would recall his pokemon one more time, return to the pokemon center to give everyone dinner, and then talk to the nurse. He lets her know that he's going to be going to trainer hill in the morning, and asks if she has anything she needs delivered, or if he could relay a message for her.

Once he finishes all of that and checks his phone for messages he might have missed, Mark spends an hour with his ariados to start that retraining, puts the spider back in his box, and then spends another hour just drawing in bed. One of the new pictures he starts sketching out is an action scene of the process to finally de-shadow Chevlain, another one is of the nurse's chansey, and a third picture, which he starts on the "Make friends" page, is a headshot of what Mina might look like if she wasn't... well, constantly injured and low-key mad all the time at everything.

Once he's got the sketches down, it would be around 10:30, and Mark would turn in for the night. The day had been relatively productive, even if it seemed to go by quickly... hopefully the next day would feel much the same.

There’s a big label on one side with a bunch of medical notations and a biohazard sign on it.

“Keep them sealed and don’t drop them. A lot of the containers are fragile and I’ve packed it with enough dry ice to keep it cold for a few hours. It should be fine as long as you get it there before sundown, but only if you don’t let all the cold out.” She seems to hesitate before adding, “If any of them do break for any reason, don’t let your Pokemon near them.”

Oh. Oh this was some kind of infectious material. Mark was going to be as careful as possible with this stuff. Thinking about it, he checks his prosthetic limb's charge (80%, since he'd had time to charge it yesterday while training his pokemon) and he would ask the nurse, "If I was careful with the pack, would I be able to tuck it into my bag, or should I keep hold of it?" Snapping his fingers, he also asks, "And is it safe for a psychic type to telekinetically hold it, if necessary?"

After figuring out how he was going to transport the package (in his bag if possible), Mark thanks the nurse for all the help she'd given him the last few days, bids her farewell, sends out Tattersail, and then pulls out the map in his pokedex to navigate himself to Trainer Hill.

According to the Pokédex map, Trainer Hill is about ten miles northeast of Ceris going cross-country, or a little more than that by road.
