*scratches head* "What on earth are you two pokemon after? Is something down that hole you need? Food? Something shiney? Ohhh wait, you're not Meowth's...I guess I wouldn't know if Shinx's would want something shiney or not... Hrmmm..."

Jack and Mina:

Psyduck stuffs a bit of the beard in his bill and gnaws on it a little by way of response. Mina gets her sorting finished not long after.

----------------

Matt:

Both Shinx look up and freeze, startled by the sound of your voice. One even leaves its paw in the hole, but a short moment later seems to regret it; there's a snap sound and the Shinx starts howling. It tries to pull away but whatever has its foot is nearly twice its size...and then you notice that the thing has eyes. A swift scan of the Pokedex reveals it to be a Trapinch.

Shinx 1: 36/51
Shinx 2: 54/54

Trapinch: 43/43

----------------

Everyone at the Pokemon Center:

Mark's Kirlia gets his attention about 9AM and points; the Ranger has arrived. Mina's attention is caught when a little boy enters the room with an older girl; he takes a seat nearby looking forlorn, but the red-haired girl—who Mark will recall is the little boy's sister—leaves the Pokemon Center entirely.

Mark sees the exchange between the girl and the Ranger; she looks anxious.

"Did you bring him?"

The Ranger smiles and pats a ball on his belt; she looks slightly less anxious and they both head into the Pokemon Center.

Inside, the red-haired girl calls to her brother.

"Toby? The Ranger has a present for you."

The little boy perks up a little—what little boy wouldn't, at the mention of presents?—and looks expectantly as the Ranger takes a Pokeball off his belt and calls out the Pokemon inside.

The Mightyena from the night before looks around nervously; Mina is able to note that it's already in better shape—its fur has been cleaned, the collar around its neck has been adjusted to fit. But none of those improvements quite match the one that occurs when dog spots boy, and boy spots dog.

"SCRUFFY!!!"

Boy and Pokemon dash across the lobby and half-hug, half collide together, the Mightyena licking Toby's face and hands with enthusiasm and Toby crying with joy. The fact that the Pokemon is evolved now apparently doesn't matter.

Toby's sister is crying a little too; she tells the Ranger 'thank you' and goes to herd boy and dog to the kitchen to get breakfast.

As the Pokedex babbles on about the information on the Trapinch I ask what it can change into and am somewhat amazed to learn it can become a ground/dragon type.

"Holy cow that, well, not so little guy turns into a total powerhouse! What the heck is it doing way out here I wonder.... Maybe it's a native to Helnith? The Shinx surely are...and I better help em out less they become Trapinch's lunch!"I wasn't sure if Trapinch were carnivorous or not but I wasn't going to risk waiting around to find out. Besides, even 2 on one the electric types probably wouldn't stand a very good chance if the Trapinch knew, and likely did, any ground type moves in its arsenal.
"Come on out Bellsprout and wrap up that Trapinch! Get its attention on you and off those Shinx's"

I think with a steady Wrap after putting it to sleep it should be catchable as long as Bellsprout doesn't KO it. Hmmm, I wonder if a person can catch an unconscious pokemon! It'd make it way easi-.....Ohhhh wait, that's what ole Team Rocket used to do if they weren't flat out stealing them from their owners. Best catch it with some kick to it.

((Pokeballs just flat-out don't work on wild unconscious Pokemon. It's a safety feature; it's easier to knock a Pokemon out than seriously injure them (by which I mean on the level of broken bones or worse), therefore, if you can't even knock them out, you aren't going to seriously injure them.))

The Trapinch splits its oversized jaws wide to grumpily snap at the Grass type...only to take a face full of Sleep Powder.

It begins snoozing quietly...and then sneezes hard, waking up again and chomping down on Bellsprout anyway.

Raising my eyebrow surprised. "Well I've never seen a pokemon go to sleep and then immediately wake up like THIS guy... or girl..."Scratches my head thinking.Well crap, NOW what do I do, my genius plan of a steady wrap/sleep combo usually works. Should I try Vine Whip? That seems too OP... Grrrr stupid Trapinch! "Alright, Bellsprout, try Poison Powder, maybe it just has an immunity to sleep based effects, if THIS doesn't work, it might be all negative effects....which would undoubtedly be a handy skill to have and shall make me want you even MORE Trapinch! I DO hope you're wild and don't have an owner... That would make me a sad panda if you did!"

Pokemon Center People:

"Mark and I need to talk about that, but one of my Pokemon is still recovering from a previous engagement, so there probably won't be anything Bandra-wise today. We need to talk to the Ranger about something from last night, but if that doesn't take long Mark and I were planning on hitting Karaoke night tonight." At least, Mina hoped Mark hadn't forgotten about that.

Matt:

((That was just luck. We use a slightly different ruleset for Sleep than the games; chance to wake up is 20%+10% per round asleep.))

The close quarters seem to work in Trapinch's favor; the Ground type ducks and Bellsprout's powder goes right over its head. Bellsprout manages to hold on to the struggling Pokemon but takes another solid Bite in the process. ((15 damage to Bellsprout, 2 to Trapinch from Wrap.))

As I ready a ball to throw at the Trapinch in my frustration with this unfamiliar pokemon I wonder if all the time I should have spent training has gone behind me in years. I mean a flock of Murkrow are one thing, this is a LONE pokemon that's beating poor Bellsprout silly! What's WRONG with me!? Have I lost my edge? Am I throwing in the towel too soon having Bellsprout go to it's super effective move too quickly? If the Trapinch used Dig and is underground...Vine Whip won't hit it anyway...

"Bellsprout, use it on a tree branch, pull yourself up off the ground, let the Trapinch go if you must. If it wants to hide underground we'll simply bide our time and play 'Whack-a-mole' with it if it resurfaces. I don't THINK it can hit you if you're up in a tree... Least I HOPE it can't!

Bellsprout starts to attack and then pulls his vines back in confusion as you amend the order. Looking around, you realize you're a bit short on trees at the moment—this part of the region being mostly very dry grassland. The Trapinch is still somewhat tangled, but makes an attempt at escaping you Pokemon's attack anyway, kicking a great deal of sand into Bellsprout's face. ((Sand attack))

Mark and Mina:

I wonder if the Ranger would mind if we grabbed him now... It wasn't that Mina wanted to be greedy so much as now that the important part of the fence-catching was over it would be nice if she could get this out of the way and get on with her actual plans for the day. Wait, where's Mark?

The Ranger had gone over to Nurse Joy and was chatting with her, so Mina decided to see if she could find her wayward companion.

Luckily he hadn't gone far; Mina found him right outside the Center, drawing. "Mark, the Ranger's here; did you want to see if we can get our bounty slips turned it?"

She happened to glance at the sketchbook while she spoke; Mark was an excellent artist and had never minded before, so she didn't think he would mind now...

...and that brief glance gave her the sight of what looked like a bunch of shadowy figures, standing over her corpse. She determinedly fixed her eyes on his face and pretended not to see, though her voice might have been a little strained when she added, "...or is now a bad time?"

At first, Mark hadn't really noticed that Mina was coming closer, far more engrossed in his art than she might expect. Of course his head tilted slightly in her direction when she called out his name, his robotic limb whirring a servo in response. However, after he realized that she was right behind him, probably looking over the sitting boy's shoulder, Mark would actually say, "Eep!" And snap the journal shut, his pen drawing a long line across the bottom of the page, his last apology cut off at, "I'm sorr-."

The opposite page, if Mina had taken the time to look, was one of the helicopter that Mark had done so much to take down. Neither picture was up to his normal quality, the images rough and jagged, if still recognizable. When he looked up at Mina, a clear reason why would be in his expression, for the lack of sleep was obvious from the bags under his eyes. "Oh, hey there Mina! Um... y-yeah... I'd be okay going to talk to the ranger. Just... was sitting here, trying to wake up and-" Interrupting himself with a wide yawn, he would set a hand on Lapras's neck and use her to stand up, a little unsteady but otherwise alright. "Haven't been... sleeping the best. Been having some bad dreams, you know?"

Well that was a total fail.I think to myself as I recall Bellsprout after praising him for a job well done.As I scan my surroundings I wonder if I should head back to the pokecenter to heal up my lil grassman. I'd be in a pickle if I had to fight more ground or rock types.
"I suppose I can see how much further I can go. Better check the pokedex, maybe it'll give some indication to how far I've traveled, or where I'm at. Aimless wandering isn't the best strategy to go on, but it's better than waiting around for someone to find you... or is it the opposite? Maybe that's when you're lost? Am I lost? Man I've no idea! Sheesh this sun is hot... it's no wonder there's no tree's around.... Hey! I have that new Taillow,I say as I reach down to grasp her ball.come on out girl, maybe you can give me a quick fly around the sky and let me know what's what around here.

(OoC ~ Uhm, since I was using Bellsprout at the time I'd think it would go to him? That'd be fine by me.)

Mark and Mina:

As Mina hadn't slept terribly well herself lately, she nodded. "Did you still want to do Karaoke Night tonight?"

----------------

Matt:

You blink and realize you're hallucinating a little; it's very night right now. ((2 AM)) Looking again, you realize that light is a four-wheeler, though it's distant enough the riders (you are barely able to make out two) probably don't see you. The Pokedex tells you you're about nine miles away from town.

Taillow flies around for a while then comes back; her feathers are wet now and there's an empty snail shell in her beak, which she displays importantly. You must be close to the river on the map.

Blinking, eyes ever so bleary, Mark would think about Mina's question for a second... and then suddenly come to a realization. "Ohhhhhh... that's today, isn't it?" Shaking his head, Mark would say, "Yeah I'll-" Yawn, "I'll definitely be up for it. Just need a gallon of coffee or caffeinated beverage and I'll be good! Any songs in particular you wanted to sing tonight?" He asked, putting away his journal and slinging his pack back over his shoulder.
