"It's hard to tell as it was dark out when we arrived last night and they had lights in their camp. We sorta just followed the glow until we discovered it wasn't a friendly sort of glow..." I whispered back. After thinking a bit about it, I supposed going either direction would eventually lead us some where. I didn't really even think about where the other direction might lead too.

(OoC ~ As far as whom I'll have out, probably Ratman and Taillow, trusting their superior senses to hopefully alert us to any danger...er....wait you guys have psychic types, I suppose they can do the same thing far more efficiently just by reading thoughts over a distance. )

Mark lets out Jessia and Sengar, the two pokemon small and stealthy enough to not make more noise than the rest of the party, and he keeps out Kirlia as he says, "T-Tattersail will be able to get us there. She's got a better m-memory than me and we're psychically linked, so she can just give me directions if we're going the wrong way."

Group:

Mina called out her Houndoom and recalled Natu, wanting to keep the latter out of harm’s way unless they ended up in a dire emergency.

Shortly after appearing, Sengar caught sight of Mina and started to growl.

“Oh here we go again…” Mina lamented in an undertone.

Apparently realizing something was wrong, Houndoom interposed himself between the Umbreon and his trainer. Sengar’s growl rose in volume and intensity and he looked about to spring—

—until Ranger Wain, reacting with lightning speed, spun his Styler around the hostile Dark type. The Umbreon looked mostly confused at first, then gradually calm – or calmer, anyway.

“That’s right, we’re all friends here…” Wain soothed. After a moment or two he was apparently convinced Sengar wasn’t going to randomly attack anyone and put the Styler away.

“What was that all about?” He directed the question at Mina, then the other members of the group.

“I’m not sure,” Mina responded.

"T-Tattersail will be able to get us there. She's got a better m-memory than me and we're psychically linked, so she can just give me directions if we're going the wrong way."

<You wanted to go towards the Bandra camp from last time? Because they’re that way.> Tattersail points.

I look at Ranger Wain and Pellana and raise an eyebrow quizzically and ask, "Are you not going to have any pokemon out? Or are we three heading in first and you two are like.... surprise! Reinforcements? I mean, if their leader is supposedly some psychic that's expecting us... is that just the three of us? Or is he expecting you two as well?"

That reaction from Sengar would remind Mark that the dog pokemon had anger issues... specifically for Mina, but also in general he was a grumpy lad. To Mina he would ask, "S-seriously, what is it about you t-that he doesn't like?"

Shaking his head, he also tells the gym leader, "W-well... you know there are Bandra grunts in these mountains who will attack us on sight, r-right? having out pokemon out gives us the chance to get the first hit in." Leaning down, he holds out his hands to pick up Tattersail if she wanted to be carried (it would be faster than walking with her little chopstick legs), he also faces the direction that she points out and says, "And we need to go that way."

Fixing strikethrough

Tattersail was, of course, perfectly happy to have her manservant trainer carry her 44-lbs self and spare her the annoyance of walking through the mountains.

"S-seriously, what is it about you t-that he doesn't like?"

“Why are you asking me?” Mina replied.

"W-well... you know there are Bandra grunts in these mountains who will attack us on sight, r-right? having out pokemon out gives us the chance to get the first hit in."

Pellana trades looks with Ranger Wain, who shrugs. She calls out her Hitmonchan and he calls his Growlithe.

"And we need to go that way."

“Then what are we waiting for?" Pellana asks, "Let’s go!”

"Sure hope that enthusiasm holds up when we get into fighting." I say with a grin as I push past her to lead the way. Looking back at the rest I suggest, "I suppose with Mark's psychic type, one of us should lead. I may be wrong, but I'd believe our pokemon would be able to sense hostiles in the area we're heading." I kicked at a pebble laying on the ground thinking to myself that even though we took out a good number of them, it's unknown if they were able to regroup or get more members from else where for reinforcements.

Picking up Tattersail like a backpack, giving her a piggyback ride, Mark starts walking, shaking his head as the imperious little psychic pokemon acts like a little queen. To Mina he says, "Well, he's a dark type, a-and I'm pretty sure that means Tattersail can't communicate with him telepathically. And Sengar is anti-social. Which means that I'm pretty much down to... w-well, just you, to figure out this mystery. Soooo... did you kick an eevee or something when you got here?"

As for who went first, Mark won't stop anyone from getting in front of him, and he'll give anyone who does so directions directly from Tattersail. He's definitely okay with being a well-protected navigator for the group.

The remainder of the group exchange looks and Matt is given the go-ahead to take point if he wants it.

"Well, he's a dark type, a-and I'm pretty sure that means Tattersail can't communicate with him telepathically.” Mina wondered if she should point out the obvious flaw in that argument. “And Sengar is anti-social. Which means that I'm pretty much down to... w-well, just you, to figure out this mystery. Soooo... did you kick an eevee or something when you got here?"

“No, I can safely say I haven’t kicked any Eevee. I don’t know if you’ve noticed,” Mina was getting irritated, and Sengar was starting to growl again too, “but they aren’t exactly thick on the ground here. I’ve only even seen one since I got here. He was an Umbreon last I saw him,” Mina didn’t see any point in lying about that. “That was before Ternai Town got overrun. My understanding is his trainer died there, but that was no doing of mine.” Sengar snarls.

En route, Ranger Wain pauses for a moment, indicates that he’ll be back shortly, then vanishes over a ridge. A short time later he’s back, with what seems to be a wild Bronzor trailing him. ((Level 44, 117 HP))

I raise an eyebrow as Ranger Wain comes back with his new companion and grin.

"Do you have a sort of sixth sense that gives away wild pokemon's locations? Or are you a bit of a psychic yourself?" Having uttered the words out, I was wondering just how serious my question was. Without really waiting for a response I turned to Ratman and Taillow and quietly gave my instructions.

"Alright Ratman, I want you to use your sharp nose and hearing to lead the way, Taillow will remain perched on my shoulder and will be my eyes to watch and follow you. Do your best to use any shrubbery for cover and don't make noise if you can help it. I believe your eyesight might be good enough where you should spot any danger before they spot you, but in case you're found out, use your speed, quick attack if you must, but get your tail back to us ASAP. As long as you keep moving forward, I'll take that as a sign that the coast is clear and that we can progress forward. Which is also why Taillow will be staying on my shoulder. As long as she can see you, we should be good. And hopefully, no random goons will get the jump on us. Taillow, you'll be assisting as far as watching for trouble goes. I haven't seen any wild bird pokemon out here, so until we do, aerial reconnaissance will have to wait. If you guys understand all that, nod at me or something. I don't want you guys getting lost and getting in trouble or hurt. Ok?"

“No, I’m a Ranger. Part of my job is to pay attention for signs of Pokémon, and I heard this little fella nearby and thought it might want to help out for a while.”

Both Pokémon nod, apparently understanding, and take the appropriate positions.

The group travels for a little while, Sengar still sending malevolent looks at Mina from time to time. But shortly Ratman comes streaking back, chattering in Pokespeak.

<He says there are two sentries above the trail leading to the camp,> Tattersail tells Mark. <He doesn’t think they saw him, but he could see the rest of the camp behind them. They aren’t far.>

Mark just looks between Sengar and Mina and says, "Huh... well. That e-explains it I guess..." To Sengar in particular he says, "We're going to have to work some things out in the future." And he's not sure how to do that exactly, but that's something that he could work with other trainers or one of the Nurse Joys if Sengar ended up needing some kind of therapy.

... Mark definitely doesn't imagine Sengar in a therapist's chair. He's far too focused on planning the assault and figuring out how to rescue his stolen pokemon to do that. His player, on the other hand, kind of wants to get fan art now.

A while later, the group gets close and he relays Ratman's message to everyone else. Gesturing for everyone to draw close, Mark keeps his voice low to make sure it doesn't echo or get carried by the wind towards those grunts, Mark says, "Alright, we're getting close. There are two sentries ahead. They haven't spotted us yet, but they have a good view of the road. If we can knock them out or capture them quickly and quietly, we should be able to get an alpha-strike on the camp itself... Tattersail is able to keep one locked down with confusion, anyone else have a pokemon that is super sneaky or able to make indirect attacks with them?"

As Mark relaid Ratman's message I felt like kicking myself.

"Well, if I had brought my brain along and kept Weepinbell out, he could have wrapped or vine whipped and tied up the other one. After my last incident of bringing one out at an ill opportune time, I really do not want to go giving away our position. Again!" Looking at the motley crew of pokemon we had in tow, I began to think of how we might be able to take two goons down without being detected. Er....detected more than possible. Perhaps Hitmonchan would be fast enough to go and knock them out? Suppose the psychic type were able to mind control one of them? Would the dark types be able to sneak up on them blending in with the black of night?

Even Kirlia doesn’t pick up on Matt’s mental suggestions, as she isn’t a strong enough telepath for that yet. The rest of the group, not being psychic at all, naturally don’t fare any better.

"Alright, we're getting close. There are two sentries ahead. They haven't spotted us yet, but they have a good view of the road. Mina felt a headache coming on. “What do you mean by ‘indirect?’ I can have Houndoom set one of them on fire but I don’t think that’s going to be quiet or particularly fast.”

Mark shakes his head at Mina's suggestion, and he says, "No, no... Tattersail's confusion is psychic type and indirect. It's silent, hits from a ways away, and, while it takes a few attacks, can lead to an unconscious grunt while disabling them in the mean time. Something like that, or a dark-type move that allows a pokemon to just teleport behind a grunt, make a kinda dated anime meme, and then knock them out with one headbutt or slam, though that would be a bit more risky since it can still make noise or fail to knock the grunt out in one hit..." Tapping his chin, he asks, "Maybe a ghost type? I know possession is a thing, but I'm not 100% on if actual ghost type moves can affect humans. If we were pokemon, we'd be normal type... right?"

He looks between everyone else in the rest of the party, and then asks, "So, uh, anyone else got a pokemon that knows confusion, psychic or psybeam?"

“Humans are typeless,” Ranger Wain replies quietly, scanning over the wild Bronzor with his Styler. “Ghost type attacks affect us.”

"So, uh, anyone else got a pokemon that knows confusion, psychic or psybeam?"

“Nothing here,” Pellana responds.

Mina goes over her Pokémon’s attacks just in case she was forgetting something, then shakes her head no. “Cosmas has Faint Attack.”

Ranger Wain is still looking at his Styler when he asks, “Don’t have any of those. Do you want to try Extrasensory?”

Frowning a bit, Mark lets out a low sight and he says, "Alright, we'll try out Extrasensory, but Mina... you should have Cosmas ready to use Faint Attack if that doesn't work, and I'll have Sengar on standby too. If either of the grunts don't go down or seem to be staggered immediately, we'll need to have fast moves that can be used to finish the job." He didn't like the idea of being reliant on a wild pokemon's help in this instance, and because of that he would also tell Matt, "If it looks like we need it, keep your rattata on standby as well. A quick attack to close the distance swiftly could go a long way here." Even if it would be a last resort, as that would almost certainly shift rocks and make noise that could potentially be heard in the Bandra camp.
