Well that's wonderful information. One SM less to purchase.

"Excuse me, I'd like to purchase two Thief SM's if there are that many available per customer. If not one will be fine." I say as I look back towards the entrance to the roof. I scratch my head wondering why, if Bandra wanted to get into the city would they wear their uniforms and come out openly brazzen, instead of in civilian clothes like everyone else so as to not be conspicuous.

I go back to reading the newspaper and check out the Bandra taskmaster section while waiting.

BANDRA TASKMASTER BEING HELD WITHOUT BAIL
A NEW VICTORY by the Heroes of Helnith has led to the arrest of veteran Taskmaster Jaysen Marshall. Taskmaster Jaysen was captured after the Heroes, working in concert with Gym Leader Pellana and the Pokémon Ranger Union, successfully assaulted the Shrine of Light and defeated him. Multiple stolen Pokémon were rescued during the tense battle and the Ranger Union asks anyone with information on their trainers to contact them. In the meantime, Taskmaster Jaysen is being held without bail in Steltag Prison and is expected to be arraigned within the week. Gym Leader Cassilda has dispatched a group of volunteers to protect the Shrine and prevent any further incursions.

Sighing I proceed to leave the department store and look for the Elder's Hall. I believe they may know, or might be able to assist, in the de-shadowing of pokemon.

((Atmospheric music.))

You make your way to the Hall of Elders. It’s a massive, and obviously very old building with lots of impractically long halls and high-ceilinged rooms. Stone columns hold up equally stone ceilings and are decorated by stone statues and carvings – the last are mostly of Legendary Pokémon. The tapestries hung on the walls appear nearly as old and do their best to give the place some color, but even then there’s something weirdly oppressive about the place.

Not many people are around, but you’re eventually able to find a custodian who tells you where in this oversized mausoleum to find the Elder. She directs you to the Debate Hall which turns out to be a large, rectangular room with columns holding up a shelf of ceiling around a massive rectangular sand pit – the pit itself being open to the sky.

At the edge of the pit and sitting on the floor against one of the columns, there sits a man who looks to be in his mid-to-late-forties, dressed in the typical Elder’s attire of a blue cloak and bearing a not-so-typical melancholy expression. He pays you no immediate attention, seemingly lost in thought.

The Elder looks more than a little puzzled that you tracked him all the way here to ask something so basic. “It’s not difficult…well, in principle it’s not difficult,” he amends. “Most trainers battle with them – high emotion will help the Pokémon reconnect with themselves and chip away at the Shadowing. You can massage them with special Cologne; there’s a nice young man who runs a stall outside Trainer Hill who sells it. Or if you enjoy digging you can use a Time Flute.”

Thinking back to the newspaper, if Bandra's big wigs are nosing about where our safest area is, or dare I say was, I should try checking in with Mina and Mark to see if they're safe and make them aware of potential danger of an astronomical proportion.
As I near the exit I pull out the pokedex, find Mina's number and hit the "Call" button.

Mina:

((I guess I do need to get her caught up. ))

Mina’s first task, once everything seemed to be sorted and the police had hauled the Taskmaster off, was to hit the bathroom to clean up and water her Berries. ((Sitrus has sprouted.))

By 6 PM (which seemed like such a short time for so much to have happened!) the Pokémon Center seemed to be back to rights, and she was too drained to do any more running around. But it had been a few weeks since she had talked to Fate or Dove, so she sat herself in an overnight room and called Fate with an update on everything that had happened since they’d last communicated. He’d been surprised to hear from her, happy to know she was still alive, and promised to keep an eye out for the many, many trainers who had bailed on the group or otherwise disappeared, as well as filling her in on the news around Siltis Village, Aitel Island, and Hillsbreak Town. The last had some rumblings of trouble, but unfortunately she had quite a bit of trouble on her plate as it was, and it had been hammered home quite thoroughly during their last mission that she was already woefully in over her head.

But that was for tomorrow at the earliest. So after the call she grabbed a snack from the kitchen and turned in early.

((Morning: ))

Mina’s early night resulted in a very early morning; she was awake about 5 AM. She tried going back to sleep but she wasn’t actually tired anymore, so she gave up and got ready for the day, watering her Berries in the process. ((Sitrus growing taller.)) The Liechi were almost ready, and she had to put some thought into what to plant next. If not for the fact that they might have died otherwise, she wished she hadn’t used her only Nilla Berry; now that she knew how useful they were (and really, how had she not figured that out before? Bandra had been using Smokescreen for ages!) she wanted more, and the Pokédex said they had a nice, short, 16 hour growth time too. And she needed more healing Berries. And more Salac. And…

…and she really just needed to find a way to grow more Berries at a time, period.

She was pondering this problem over oatmeal around 6 AM when the nurse approached her.

“I need you to come get your Serranix.”

Mina was a little distracted, so her response was to blink and reply back intelligently with, “Mine?”

“Yes, yours.”

“Oh.” Mina digested this. “She didn’t belong to someone already?”

“If she did, the Pokéball residue isn’t showing up on any of my machines, and no one has reported a missing Serranix. She probably wandered through a rift; they aren’t native to this dimension.”

Oh.Oh that poor thing! Rounded up by Bandra and almost sacrificed. What a terrible way to get introduced to this dimension!

“She’s hiding in the supply closet and I can’t get her out.”

“Right. Ah…” Mina mentally stumbled over what to do with the oatmeal, before finally just leaving it and following the nurse.

((Supply closet: ))

Mina wouldn’t have seen the Pokémon – her Pokémon! – if the nurse hadn’t pointed her out. Somehow she’d managed to get to the very top shelf, with enough supplies between her and the floor to make a Pokéball return beam…problematic. And as soon as the nurse pointed her out, the Serranix scooted back farther out of sight.

“Is she hurt?” Mina asked.

“No, she has a clean bill of health, as soon as you get her down you can take her with you. I’ll leave you to it.” And with that the nurse stepped out.

And shortly thereafter Serranix peaked out of her hiding spot, and Mina felt flabbergasted - Mina had never met a Pokémon that was afraid of Nurse Joy.

“Hey, baby,” Mina called quietly. The Pokémon creeped out into sight; she was shaking badly and jumped at the sudden noise of the AC turning on in the background. “It’s all right sweetheart, you’re safe now. Will you come down?” Mina pulled out a little Pokéchow and offered it. Slowly, slowly she coaxed the Dark type down to the floor, where the latter immediately pressed up against Mina and refused to move from her side. She didn’t even seem interested in the food, and while Mina was by no means an expert she thought that was a bad sign.

Getting her into the hall was another challenge, and finding Nurse Joy after that would have been a nightmare if not for the Chansey helpers. (The other Pokémon, at least, didn’t seem to bother her.) As it was it was nearly 8 AM before Mina got her new Pokémon into her ball, and Mina was starving.

Mina took a half-hour for her delayed breakfast and considered her next move. She needed more Berries, and more types of Berries, and she needed them faster than she was going to be able to grow them. She needed more Revives. She needed a power boost for her Pokémon in a hurry, and thought that the Move Tutor might be a good way to go, but she needed a Heart Scale (and probably more than one) for that, and finding one would take time. She needed to take that weird book to Skybreak City (apparently, although the purple-haired psychic hadn’t given her a timeframe on that).

The Pokédex wasn’t much use as far as finding Berry locations. She asked the nurse and was told her best bet was to the north, where the region hadn’t died out so much, and that while (Bandra infested) Ternai Town generally had more Berries the grasslands between here and there still had a few wild patches. Skybreak and Trainer Hill were both north(ish) too, so Mina decided her best bet was to take the long way up, looking for Berries as she went, and circle by Trainer Hill on her way to Skybreak.

Plan made, she put her breakfast things away, made sure her Pokémon were in order ((Pidgey, Oodramer, Houndoom, Sandshrew, Natu, Serranix)), watered her Sitrus once more before the trip ((Sitrus in Bloom))…and one more thing…

“Natu, can you Wish for me?”

Natu did a thoughtful head tilt, which for him was a whole-body-tilt, and chattered at her in Pokéspeak.

“I didn’t understand a word of that. Can you do it or not?”

Natu’s language got distinctly frustrated-sounding but at last he bobbed up and down in a ‘yes.’

“Awesome. Do it!” Mina was so looking forward to getting rid of these bandages!

Natu fluttered his wings and bounced the little gold sparkles the attack generated onto her. She felt the injuries warm, then cool, then the bandages started to itch. Mina peeled them away to reveal…

…bad bruising. Some rough patches that might end up being scars later. Huh. She couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed. But since it had been scabbed over open wounds, and was no longer bleeding or likely to start bleeding again, this was still an improvement. “Good job, my dear!” She peeled the rest of the bandages off with a sense of accomplishment, and tossed them into the nearest trashcan.

Then she called out Pidgey, gave both her birds instructions on what they were looking for, and set off!

((Search and travel: ))

No Pokémon showed themselves this time, and Mina was reminded just how barren Helnith was. But with Pidgey overhead using his sharp eyes to help, she was a little more successful as far as her Berry hunting went:

1 Petaya
1 Aguav
1 Colbur
2 Cumbir
2 Tropical Fruits

…which, in retrospect, expecting to find the handful of Berries she knew were useful out of the dozens of different varieties was probably a lost cause to begin with. But once harvested, that was four plantable patches of ground, which Mina checked with Natu to make sure he could Teleport back to from Trainer Hill, and got another full-body nod in response. (Pellana had said she could boost his range by boosting his Special Attack, so she was going to have to work on that at some point, too.)

She puzzled over how to keep the wild Pokémon from just eating whatever she planted; she couldn’t keep an eye on these patches and still travel. She dug through her pack and realized she had a number of Repels still, but she also decided to stick with the more common, faster growing Berry varieties – she’d need to Teleport back to water and harvest them, and if something more pressing came up she didn’t want to lose anything she couldn’t replace (like her new Petaya Berry!). Plus she wasn’t sure how long the Repel would last.

So she planted her Berry choices, sprayed Repel over all but the Rawst (she was out of Repel), and called out Oodramer to help water them. Pity she couldn’t tweak the growth times with Mulch; some of these were going to be ready at 2 AM.

Her Liechi plant had also finally produced Berries, and now that she had a plan for the more common Berries, she had no qualms whatsoever about stuffing the Petaya Berry into the newly-freed planter to multiply. ((+5 Liechi Berries! 5 total.))

((To summarize:
1 Oran Berry – wild plot, Repel applied, planted 2 PM
1 Leppa Berry – wild plot, Repel applied, planted 2 PM
1 Cheri Berry – wild plot, Repel applied, planted 2 PM
1 Rawst Berry – wild plot, planted 2 PM
1 Petaya Berry – Berry Planter, planted 2 PM

Everything watered. -3 Repel, 0 remaining))

It was 2:30 by the time she actually reached Trainer Hill – later than expected, but she had been busy planting in there too - and it wasn’t until then that she realized she’d gotten a text from Mark.

Mark sent you a message!
Hey there oh radiant one. I'm helping to feed the rescued pokemon if you wanted to meet up.

That he’d sent nearly four hours ago. Oops.

It was probably too late to meet up with him for that, Mina reasoned. By now he was certainly busy with something else. She sent back a reply (~Sorry, missed your text sunshine, catch up later?~) and was sufficiently busy that she completely missed the ‘error sending message’ notification that popped up on her Pokédex shortly thereafter.

She was starving by this point, and the Trainer Hill Pokémon Center didn’t seem to have a free kitchen like most cities did, so Mina sat down and ate some of the non-Berry tropical fruits she’d found. ((-1 Tropical Fruits))

Then she checked the board, checked her BP total, and dumped three of her remaining BP on Revives. ((+3 Revives, -3 BP, 1 BP remaining.))

Then she spent the next four hours running through the Roulette challenge, pausing only to harvest her Sitrus Berries ((+5 Sitrus Berries, 9 total)) and replace them with a Chesto Berry ((watered 4 PM)).

((Which for the sake of time I will revisit after I finish this post. ))

Afterwards she had Natu Teleport her to her Berry plots so she could water everything – so far, so good:

((Oran Berry: Sprouted, watered 7 PM
Leppa Berry: Sprouted, watered 7 PM
Cheri Berry: Sprouted, watered 7 PM
Rawst Berry: Sprouted, watered 7 PM
Chesto Berry: Sprouted, watered 7 PM))

She went back to Trainer Hill, but it looked like it was closing up for the night. She was tired, but if she did the math right she figured she could get one more watering in if she stayed up until 10 – she was going to miss a few regardless, unless she tried to stay up all night, but she figured she could make 10 PM. She was at a loss as to how to fill the time, before her eyes fell on the Move Tutor’s little corner of the lobby, and she remembered she needed to find some Heart Scales for that.

So she Teleported back to Ceris, made a quick dinner, fed her Pokémon (Serranix had to be isolated away from other humans  yet another thing Mina needed to work on), got her room in order so she could just crash into it once she got back, then headed down to the coast with Pidgey to look for Heart Scales.

She hadn’t actually expected to find anything in the dark, but the tide was going out, and Pidgey’s Keen Eyes picked up a couple shiny things it had left behind – one of which was a Heart Scale! ((+1 Heart Scale, +1 Stardust))

Pleased, Mina had Natu take her for one more round of watering.

((Oran Berry: Growing taller, watered 10 PM
Leppa Berry: Growing taller, watered 10 PM
Cheri Berry: Growing taller, watered 10 PM
Rawst Berry: Growing taller, watered 10 PM
Chesto Berry: Growing taller, watered 10 PM))

And then crashed into bed.

((Morning: ))

The alarm she’d set went off at 6 AM. Still tired and grumpy at the early awakening, she reflected that she really needed to plan her Berry planting better to avoid this in the future.

She took about an hour to eat and get ready for the day – and have Nurse Joy run the Pokémon through the machine, just to be safe – before starting her Berry harvest and replanting run. Not wanting to go through the mad teleport spree again quite so soon, this time she just put Sitrus Berries in all the ‘wild’ plots, and a Persim in the planter where she could reach it easily.

((+4 Cheri (4 total), +4 Leppa (4 total), +3 Oran (3 total), +4 Chesto (5 total), +4 Rawst (5 total)
Sitrus: Wild plot, planted Day 24, 7 AM, Watered
Sitrus: Wild plot, planted Day 24, 7 AM, Watered
Sitrus: Wild plot, planted Day 24, 7 AM, Watered
Sitrus: Wild plot, planted Day 24, 7 AM, Watered
Persim: Planter, planted Day 24, 7 AM, Watered))

She considered jumping back into Trainer Hill, but she’d wanted to at least try to use the Mining Kit now that her arm was in better shape, and she’d seen signs of people digging in the rocks below the high tide mark during her beachcombing walk the night before – not a place she’d expect people to dig, but probably safer than going back into the mountains to do it.

She was foiled slightly by the fact that the tide was in.

She spent an hour or two looking for a good spot that wasn’t underwater and turning down the offers of nice ferrymen when, about 9:30 AM, her Pokédex rang.

It was Matt. Mina picked up. “Hello?”

Matt:

"Hello Mina! Good day to you, I hope you're doing well! I'm over in Skybreak City heading back to Ceris, but wanted to give you a heads up to be careful! Apparently taking down that Taskmaster at the Ruins has Bandra a little stirred up and some Officer Hannah and an elite 4 slayer guy called Darrin are up in Ternai town. The newspaper the article was in says there may be increased Bandra activity now. Keep your eyes peeled! Though I'm sure you don't need to be told that... By the way, is Mark with you? Could you relay the message please if he is?"

There’s a brief pause on the other side of the line. “Hannah and Darrin are both in Ternai Town right now?” Another pause. She sounds thoughtful. “No, Mark isn’t with me, but I’ll pass it on if I see him.
