Mark:

Your opponent is apparently feeling cocky because they don’t take their League-sanctioned switch. ((Don’t forget your opponents are allowed to do that too!))

Tattersail uses Magical Leaf!
It’s super effective!
Marshtomp’s held Rindo Berry halves the damage!
Marshtomp is hit for 59 damage!

Marshtomp uses Water Gun!
Attack missed!

Tattersail: 23/96
Marick: 0/88

Luxray: 59/103 (recalled)
Marshtomp: 11/96 (Accuracy down 2 levels)

----------------

Mina:

Mina made it back to Trainer Hill just under the wire, and spent her time waiting in line texting Ranger Wain to set up a meeting for the rest of the group to meet with Ei. She was still typing with one hand when she made it to the front of the line.

She’d gotten stomped often enough in Roulette that she decided to go with the Normal challenge for now – her Pokémon and their movesets hadn’t really changed enough for her to expect any sudden victories, so trying for the harder mode would just be torturing herself and her Pokémon to no purpose. She selected Oodramer, Sandshrew and Natu and then rode the elevator to her first match.

Her opponent sent out a Haunter, so Mina sent out Oodramer. It occurred to her if he couldn’t take out the Ghost type on his own, she was in trouble – Natu had a type disadvantage and Sandshrew only had one attack that could hit it, thanks to Levitate.

Oodramer: 88/88

Haunter: 67/67

----------------

Matt and Pinklady:

((All Pokémon need to be within five levels of each other so yes, absolutely you two can tag-team, just watch what Pokémon you use.))

... Of course the marshtomp had a berry to protect it specifically from its only weakness, that just made sense. But with the miss of that water gun, that gave Mark another window of opportunity... "Alright 'sail, Confusion this time."

Well... confusion seemed to be working. Hopefully this ponyta wouldn't hit hard enough with a high priority move to knock 'sail out. "Confusion again."

Ponyta, it transpires, are very very fast.

Fast enough that the opposing Pokémon doesn’t actually need an increased priority move to outspeed Tattersail.

Ponyta uses Flame Wheel!
Tattersail is hit for 33 damage!
Tattersail faints!

For a split second you can feel your flesh burning and a great deal of pain via psychic backlash. The world spins wildly for a few moments before eventually calming – you’re able to stay conscious but you’ve staggered badly enough that your opponent has noticed and looks slightly alarmed.

Looking somewhat confused as we approach Trainer Hill I hold the door open for Pinklady before excusing myself to go and grab Flaaffy out of storage for Weepinbell before heading towards the registration counter.

"Ah, yes hi, I would like to register in a team battle with this trainer over here," I say gesturing at Pinklady, "and I'll be using my Flaaffy, Poliwhirl, and Rattata."

Pinklady waves when Matt gestures to her.

So, type variety... I don't have a really wide range of types, and Sport isn't super battle-ready just yet... so I'll go with...

"And I'll be registering these three! Skiploom, Dustox, and my own Poliwhirl!"

She unclips and presents the threes' Pokéballs to the desk attendant.

“Need… to s-stop… using her in these…” Mark muttered to himself, raising a trembling organic hand to his opponent to signal that he was still okay. He wasn’t, really, but he was still going to keep going with this battle. Recalling his unconscious psychic type, Mark sent out his last pokemon and, after considering that none of his opponent’s pokemon would be strong against the type, commanded, “Fisher, use Water Pulse.”

Pinklady and Matt:

The lady behind the counter OK’s your Pokémon selections with a smile and guides you both through a door. Eventually the double-sized lift brings you to the Double Battle arena – it is understandably larger than the other Trainer Hill formats, with another double-sized lift on the other side holding your opponents. One is mostly in pink, the other is dressed for warm weather.

Your opponents send out Teddiursa and Arkhiti!

Your Pokédexes inform you the latter Pokémon is native to Helnith, and spit out a few other blurbs:

As a species it is even-tempered but protective. This Pokémon normally lives near caves and old ruins.

Teddiursa: 72/72

Arkhiti: 72/72

----------------

Mark:

Your opponent is sufficiently distracted to forgo switching this time.

Ponyta uses Stomp!
Fisher is hit for 22 damage!

Fisher uses Water Pulse!
It’s super effective!
Ponyta uses held Passho Berry to half the damage!
Ponyta is hit for 38 damage!
Ponyta faints!

Your opponent sends out Luxray!
Fisher’s Attack falls from Luxray’s Intimidate!

Tattersail: 0/96
Marick: 0/88
Fisher: 112/134 (Intimidated)

Luxray: 59/103
Marshtomp: 11/96 (recalled)
Ponyta: 0/74

----------------

Mina:

Not wanting to accidentally Shadow the Ghost type in a friendly match, Mina called for Bubblebeam.

Haunter uses Mean Look!

Oh no it’s a staller—

But it failed!

—wait what? Oh right, trapping moves don’t work on Spectral types!

Oodramer uses Bubblebeam!
Haunter is hit for 29 damage!

Haunter uses Curse!
Haunter sacrifices 33 HP to put a Curse on Oodramer!

Oodramer uses Bubblebeam!
Haunter is hit for 29 damage!
Haunter faints!

Oodramer takes 22 damage from the Curse!

Her opponent looked unamused and sent out a Misdreavus. Mina used her switch to recall Oodramer to break the Curse and sent out Sandshrew.

Oodramer: 66/88 (recalled)
Sandshrew: 76/76

Haunter: 0/67
Misdreavus: 85/85

“Fisher, Water Pulse again.” This was going to be the dangerous part. If Fisher could deal enough damage with his attack, the rest should be able to be cleaned up…

Mark would swap from Tattersail to Jessia, to prevent any more of those near-knockouts that he kept suffering, but otherwise kept his team the same.

Pinklady brings out her Poliwhirl, Croaky.

That sure is something I haven't seen before... which means I have no idea just what it could do, I should try to deal with it first!

"Go, Croaky! Hypnotise that... Arkhiti!"

She points towards the target to make sure Croaky understands, and then looks at Matt to see what her battle partner does.
